Stampede fallout: Bengaluru stadium declared unsafe; Women's ODI World Cup matches likely to shift to Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram's Karyavattom stadium is likely to host these matches.
This is the second major blow to Bengaluru after KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy was shifted to Mysuru's Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar ground. Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president K Jayesh told TOI that discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) were going on about hosting Women's World Cup matches and a final confirmation was awaited.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was awarded four matches - including the final, contingent upon Pakistan not qualifying - when the ICC announced the official tournament itinerary.
Following the June 4 stampede, Karnataka govt reportedly withdrew permission to host any matches at the tragedy-struck venue.
Logistical challenges need to be addressed: Jayesh
The decision followed findings of a government-commissioned probe led by Justice John Michael D'Cunha.

The commission said the stadium is "fundamentally unsafe" for large-scale events, citing design flaws, poor crowd management infrastructure, limited entry and exit points, inadequate public transport access, and insufficient parking.
In light of these developments, ICC chairman Jay Shah met KCA's Jayesh in Mumbai early this week. "We assured him (Shah) that Thiruvananthapuram is ready to host the Women's T20 World Cup matches. We have the necessary infrastructure in place," Jayesh said.
"It's not yet confirmed how many matches we will host. Several logistical challenges still need to be addressed," he added. The stadium last hosted an international match during the India vs Sri Lanka ODI in 2023.

Drama in Pakistan cricket continues as players reportedly face pay cut after ODI series loss in West Indies
The Pakistan cricket team has been facing a barrage of criticism after suffering their first ODI series defeat against West Indies in over three decades with a 202-run thrashing earlier this week. Senior members of the Pakistan cricket team including Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan had pressurised the PCB to include 3 per cent of their ICC revenue share in player contracts. Reuters The Pakistan cricket team has been facing a barrage of criticism after suffering their first ODI series loss against West Indies in 34 years, with Mohammad Rizwan's men capitulating to a 202-run defeat after getting bundled out for a lowly 92. Not only has the lopsided loss put seniors including 50-over captain Rizwan and Babar Azam in the spotlight, newly-appointed white-ball head coach Mike Hesson has also been targeted with some questioning his credentials. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Babar, Rizwan and others could lose part of their wages As if the criticism isn't enough, there's more trouble in store for Babar and Rizwan and others as they face a pay cut in the aftermath of Pakistan's poor run this year. The Men in Green had, after all, crashed out of the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year without a single win and winning just one out of three Tests this year. According to a report on Cricket Pakistan, the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to remove the clause from the players' central contract which includes 3 per cent of the revenue that the board gets from the International Cricket Council. The senior players had pressurised the board to distribute 3 per cent of their earnings from the ICC among the players two years ago. And the manner in which the Pakistanis have struggled to make an impact across formats in recent months, it is likely that the board might remove the clause for good. Pakistan have been performing relatively better in the T20I format under Salman Agha's leadership, having won the 20-over leg of their tour of the Caribbean 2-1. Agha had been named 20-over skipper in March during the tour of New Zealand, with Pakistan winning nine and losing as many in the format since then. The spin-bowling all-rounder will be hoping to lead Pakistan to victory in the upcoming Asia Cup, which returns to the T20 format in the UAE next month, in order to boost his chances of being named captain across formats – replacing Shan Masood and Rizwan in Tests and ODIs respectively.

Short run to single ball rule: BCCI announces key domestic rule changes
Traditionally, when batters intentionally run short to retain strike, particularly in T20 formats, the penalty has included disallowing the run, awarding five penalty runs to the fielding side, and a potential post-match hearing with the referee. The updated rule takes this further. According to the new clause, if a deliberate short run is identified, the captain of the fielding team will choose which of the two batters remains on strike for the following delivery. This rule aims to prevent manipulation of strike and curb unfair advantage. However, if a batter aborts a run mid-way without intent to deceive or gain advantage, the umpires may use discretion and avoid penalization. Detailed Short Run Rule (Clause 18.5.2): Another key update concerns batters retiring mid-innings. As per the revised regulation, if a batter retires for any reason outside of injury or external interruption, he will be immediately deemed 'Retired–out'. Crucially, such a player cannot return to bat, even with the opposing captain's permission. This rule is now applicable across all formats of domestic cricket. Single Ball Rule in 50-Over Games The BCCI has also aligned with the ICC's recent ODI rule tweak to use only one ball after 34 overs. This change, intended to reintroduce reverse swing into the game, will be implemented in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Teams will use two new balls from each end for the first 34 overs. After that, one ball will be chosen for the remaining overs, while the other will be added to the pool of replacement balls.

Glenn Maxwell's Clutch Heroics Seal T20I Series Win For Australia Vs South Africa
Last Updated: Stunning-as-always Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten 62 led Australia to a two-wicket win over South Africa in Cairns, sealing the T20 series 2-1. Glenn Maxwell took a stunning catch and then scored a crucial half-century to help Australia edge past a resilient South Africa by two wickets, securing the three-match Twenty20 series in Cairns on Saturday. Chasing South Africa's 172-7, Australia found themselves in trouble at 122-6 in the 14th over until Maxwell's unbeaten 62 off 36 balls turned the game. A late drama unfolded when South African pacer Corbin Bosch took two consecutive wickets, dismissing Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis. However, Maxwell hit a boundary on the second-last ball of the match to seal the victory and celebrated enthusiastically. Australia, who were favourites, had won the first match but faced a setback with a 52-run defeat in the second game before moving to Cairns, which hosted its first T20 international. Maxwell admitted, 'It was a little nerve-racking. I tried to stay on strike as much as I could and cash in on anything loose." Australia's captain Mitchell Marsh decided to field first, taking advantage of conditions favourable for seam bowlers, unlike the batting-friendly pitches in the first two games in Darwin. Lhuan-dre Pretorius scored a quick 24 before falling to Ellis, making way for Dewald Brevis, who had scored a record-breaking 125 not out in the second game. Brevis hit his sixth delivery onto the roof before Maxwell dropped a difficult one-handed chance at long-on. However, Brevis reached his half-century off 22 balls. Maxwell, known for his fielding prowess, redeemed himself in the 12th over with an excellent diving catch to dismiss Brevis for 53. South Africa's innings lost momentum and their total seemed insufficient when Marsh led a 66-run opening partnership with Travis Head. South Africa then struck back, quickly dismissing Head (19) and Josh Inglis for a first-ball duck. Marsh scored 54 before getting out to 19-year-old Kwena Maphaka, who later in the 11th over also dismissed Cameron Green (nine). Australia's collapse of 6-56 was completed when in-form Tim David (17) and Aaron Hardie (one) were dismissed, but Maxwell took control from there. The Australian players wore black armbands to honour former captain and coach Bob Simpson, who passed away at the age of 89. The three-match One-Day International series between the teams starts in Cairns on Tuesday.
