Ikea launches its first 'Plan & Order Point' service in India

Swedish multinational furniture company Ikea has announced the launch of its first 'Plan & Order Point (PaOP)' in India, at Bengaluru, where customers can avail expert's advice in planning their room or home, from layouts to product selections.
This service will be available at its experience centre in East Bengaluru, spanning 740 square metres. This new format serves as a customer meeting point to bring personalised consultations, planning support, and installation services, it said in a release.
Customers will have the option to choose their preferred level of service which could be a DIY (do-it-yourself) approach, guided planning, or complete end-to-end design and installation, with access to Ikea's entire home furnishing range.
This new format is part of the broader expansion strategy of the Swedish firm.
Susanne Pulverer, chief executive officer and chief sustainability officer at Ikea India, said, 'We are beyond excited to launch this new Ikea meeting point format in India. Bengaluru has been a strong growth market for us as the second biggest home furnishings market in India. With the new Plan & Order Point, we are strengthening our local presence and deepening our understanding of how people live at home. This is a strategic step in our continued investment towards scalable, omnichannel expansion in the region.'
Customers begin by booking a free appointment, where Ikea specialists will help plan their room or entire home, from layouts to product selections.
Once the design is finalised, orders can be placed on-site, with convenient options for home delivery, click & collect, or local partner pick-up.
Options like assembling products themselves or opt for an assembly service from Ikea will be offered to customers. It will also offer a selection of products which will be available for immediate purchase.
'East Bengaluru is witnessing a surge in residential and commercial development, attracting a diverse population that is seeking well-designed, functional, and stylish homes. With deep insights on living situations gained through extensive home visits across the region, Ikea has studied how residents in the city live, their needs, and aspirations and has designed the PaOP to meet these local needs,' the company said in its release.

IKEA experimenting with linear store format, may extend to other markets

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Amhult (Sweden), Aug 21 (PTI) Swedish furniture retailer IKEA, in order to push its growth further, is experimenting with a new format of stores that are smaller in sizes but accessible to consumers in smaller towns. The project, internally called as 'BARN" concept, has the potential to open hundreds of new locations across markets including India where it operates, said Ingka Group Retail Manager Tolga Oncu here. Ingka Group operates IKEA stores in 31 countries including India. The concept, which is at the 'initial pilot phase' will merge with IKEA's omni-channel offerings as one of many customer meeting point formats around the world, if it is successful. IKEA is piloting this concept, in which stores size could range from 2,000 to 10,000 sq mts at five locations across UK, Texas, and Poland. 'This format is designed to be faster and more cost-effective to open, while still offering thousands of products and planning services. The goal is to create a simpler and more efficient shopping experience," said Oncu. According to Oncu, the goal is to create a simpler and more efficient shopping experience and offer the IKEA experience in a different way. 'Initial feedback has been encouraging, and we are optimistic that this format could help us expand into new locations and make IKEA more accessible to a wider audience. We are gathering learnings and results from these pilot stores and expect to have a clearer picture by the end of the year," he said. About India, Oncu said IKEA is already working with a simplified expansion approach, focusing on cost consciousness and operational efficiency. 'We will continue to refine and adapt these principles to suit the Indian market based on the learnings of the new format pilots to make IKEA more accessible and efficient in India," he said. IKEA, which has recently opened a store in Delhi, has started retail operations in India in 2018 with its Hyderabad store. IKEA expects India business to grow 10% in FY25, to expand network

ALMHULT: Leading Swedish furniture and home furnishing retailer IKEA expects its India sales to grow by over 10 per cent in the financial year 2025, a top company official said here. IKEA follows the September-August financial year. While speaking with a media delegation, Ingka Group Retail Manager Tolga Oncu said that the company is confident of its expansion in the Indian market, where it plans to open a slew of small-format stores along with its traditional large (Blue Box) stores. Ingka Group operates IKEA stores in 31 countries, including India. IKEA, which gets around 30 per sales through online channels, is seeing an impressive jump in queries. In FY24 IKEA in India reported a widening of its total loss to Rs 1,299.4 crore, though its revenue from operations was at Rs 1,809.8 crore, up 4.5 per cent. When asked about the growth of IKEA in India, Tolga Oncu said: "So right now, after many years, seven years of being in India with the retail business, we have finally come to a point where we feel and see that the catch-up is happening for us." He also acknowledged that IKEA's growth was slowed down in India due to the pandemic and other related disruptions. Before that, it was very aggressive in its growth. "We see that we are growing faster (in India) than many other markets where we are," he added. With the learning of the last seven years of retail operations in India, IKEA is trying to be "more relevant" for the many Indians and their everyday life at home. "India is actually as big as a continent. And of course, we are a growth mindset organisation. So, we are expecting big growth for the coming years in India. We are establishing all the needed resources and focusing on growing IKEA in India, and I believe that this is just the beginning of what we are experiencing now," he said. Oncu did not comment on the number of stores that IKEA will build in India, but said: "There is an enormous amount of stores that need to be established in India, in order for us to reach the many Indian families and consumers." IKEA, which recently opened a city store in Delhi, started retail operations in India in 2018 with its Hyderabad store, followed by Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru. To grow faster and increase its penetration in India, IKEA has changed its approach to expand with several small stores, which could be sized from 2,000 to 5,000 sq feet, besides having traditional large format stores and city stores. "So I see a big potential (in small stores). After many decades, we have learned how to establish, operate, and use our traditional stores. And now we are seeing that where these traditional ones are not able to be... we can now become closer to many people by developing these smaller formats. And of course, it's a combination and you need to see it as a part of an ecosystem," he added. Oncu also acknowledged that India is a value-conscious market, and to grow beyond the metro market, IKEA needs to offer low-priced items. "We need to establish a very low-cost operation when it comes to the fulfilment, the logistic part, when it comes to the operation, so that all the costs we can lower, we can also lower the prices of our products to become even more affordable," he added.

Nordic postal groups halt shipments to US as de minimis exemption ends

Pic: PostNord Insights Norwegian postal group Posten Bring, Swedish-Danish group PostNord and Belgian group bpost will pause parcel shipments to the US ahead of the elimination of the de minimis exemption for inbound goods beginning August 29. The details surrounding this have not yet been clarified by the US customs authorities, and no system solutions have been developed that postal companies can use, Posten Bring said. Norwegian postal group Posten Bring, Swedish-Danish group PostNord and Belgian group bpost recently announced pausing parcel shipments to the United States ahead of the elimination of the de minimis exemption for inbound goods. The de minimis exemption is a US trade rule that allows low-value goods (below $800) to enter the country without paying customs, duties or taxes. It's designed to simplify and speed up the import process for small shipments. Norwegian postal group Posten Bring, Swedish-Danish group PostNord and Belgian group bpost will pause parcel shipments to the US ahead of the elimination of the de minimis exemption for inbound goods beginning August 29. The details surrounding this have not yet been clarified by the US customs authorities, and no system solutions have been developed that postal companies can use, Posten Bring said. The change in regulation, effective August 29, will considerably affect international postal services and e-retailers. PostNord, owned by the Swedish and Danish governments, announced the temporary pause on postal shipments containing goods to the United States and Puerto Rico, effective from August 23. 'This decision is unfortunate, but necessary to ensure full compliance of the newly implemented rules. We are actively working with the relevant international organisations, as well as our U.S. partners, to develop and implement the necessary solution, and remain committed to resuming service for our customers as soon as possible,' says Bjorn Bergman, head of the group's brand and communication in a statement. "The details surrounding this have not yet been clarified by the US customs authorities, and no system solutions have been developed that postal companies can use," Posten Bring said in a separate statement. It said postal companies in Europe were working together to gain clarity. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (DS)
