"Haven't decided which two matches Bumrah will play but he will play total of three.
We need to manage his workload. Scoreline doesn't change that… he will play three Tests only," Gambhir said after the match.
Jasprit Bumrah press conference: Lashes out at critics, dropped catches and no balls
India captain Shubman Gill echoed a similar sentiment. "(Which games will Bumrah play?) It's decided game-by-game. Once we're close to the next game after a long break, we'll see," he said at the presentation.
Poll
What do you think about the decision to let Bumrah play only three Tests?
It's a smart decision.
It might hurt India's chances.
Unsure, need to see how it plays out.
England's win was historic in more ways than one. They became the first team in over 60,000 first-class games to concede five individual hundreds and still win.
Duckett's 149 and Root's unbeaten 53 took them to 373/5, chasing a target of 371. Jamie Smith sealed the win with a six.
India, despite scoring 835 runs in the match — including two centuries from
Rishabh Pant
— were undone by batting collapses of 7 for 41 and 6 for 31 in either innings.
The second Test starts July 2 at Edgbaston, and the decision on Bumrah's participation will be a closely watched call.

IND vs ENG Test: Rishabh Pant creates a rare record no batter wants as India choke at Headingley

India's Rishabh Pant (AP Photo/Scott Heppell) Rishabh Pant delivered one of his finest overseas performances at Headingley, scoring centuries in both innings and showing exactly why he is regarded as India's most fearless Test batter abroad. His knocks of 134 and 118 were a masterclass in counter-attacking batting under pressure. Yet once again, his heroics were not enough to prevent a loss. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! This is not new territory for Pant. Over the years, he has made it a habit to step up when the team has its back against the wall, especially in tough SENA conditions. From his memorable century at The Oval to fighting tons in Sydney and Cape Town, Pant has been India's crisis man away from home. But turning these moments into match wins remains a challenge when the support cast does not always rise to the occasion. The rumor links McDavid, still under contract, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a blockbuster deal. The bold suggestion centers around a big name already with the Bolts. This surprising plan sparked debate: is a career-changing trade actually possible? NHL insider Jay Recher names Brayden Point as centerpiece in potential Connor McDavid trade On Tuesday, June 24, reporter Jay Recher shared a trade scenario on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Connor McDavid headed to Tampa Bay . In this idea, Brayden Point—Tampa Bay's star center—is labeled the 'centerpiece'. Recher explained, 'Brayden Point … would be the centerpiece of this deal; obviously, you need a big gem going back.' Along with Point, Recher said the Oilers should receive young talent Isaac Howard, a Hobey-Baker winner expected to go straight into Edmonton's lineup . He also named Jack Finley, a big-bodied centre to bolster depth, and defenseman Erik Cernak, who shoots right and makes $5.2 million . McDavid is about to play the final year of his eight-year, $100 million contract extension signed in 2015. NHL trade rumors: Flames finalize Matthew Tkachuk deal with 32nd pick as Panthers ride championship wave

The Calgary Flames have finalized their compensation from the 2022 Matthew Tkachuk trade (Image via A) Nearly three years after the blockbuster trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk to Florida, the Calgary Flames have finally secured their full compensation. With the 32nd overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft now confirmed, Calgary closes the final chapter of a deal that helped launch a Panthers dynasty—and sparked years of "what if" conversations in Alberta. Calgary receives the 32nd pick in a long and winding trade aftermath The Flames will officially select 32nd in the 2025 draft, according to B/R Open Ice. That pick was part of the original Tkachuk trade in July 2022, which sent the star winger to the Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt, and a conditional first-rounder. Though initially confusing—due to trade entanglements involving the Flyers and Oilers—the draft order has been finalized. The Oilers' Stanley Cup Final run secured them the 31st pick, while the Flyers take that spot through a prior swap, leaving Calgary with pick No. 32. The Flames also hold the 18th overall pick this year via a separate trade with the Devils. Flames begin rebuild while Panthers chase championships Calgary ended the regular season 15th overall and fourth in the Pacific Division, finishing with 96 points. With veteran forwards like Mikael Backlund and Nazem Kadri aging, the team is expected to target future centerpieces such as Cole Reschny, Braeden Cootes, or Ben Kindel. With two first-round picks, two second-rounders, and a third-rounder, the Flames have ample ammunition to lay the groundwork for a fresh era. Meanwhile, the Panthers' gamble on Tkachuk paid off handsomely. When Paul Maurice took over as coach, Florida's philosophy shifted toward a more physical, relentless brand of hockey—and Tkachuk was the centerpiece of that identity. 'Matthew is a tenacious, physical competitor who possesses a tremendously unique skillset,' GM Bill Zito said at the time of the trade. That vision worked. Since then, Florida has reached three consecutive Stanley Cup Finals and won two of them. In 2025, it was Sam Bennett—a gritty playoff performer and former Flames player—who took home the Conn Smythe Trophy. While Calgary now focuses on its rebuild, Florida keeps proving that one bold trade can change everything.
