NDA govt sets intense focus on health sector
Speaking after inaugurating buildings built at a cost of Rs 29.7 crore in the premises of the Government Hospital for Mental Care and the Ayushman Arogya Mandir built at a cost of Rs 1.38 crore here on Tuesday, he said that extensive steps are taken to strengthen the health sector in the Andhra Pradesh.
'Visakha Institute of Medical Science will be developed on a par with Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences,' he assured.
Keeping long term goals in view, the Minister assured that M.Sc. or Diploma in Psychiatry and MPhil courses with 30 seats in Clinical Psychology will be introduced from the next academic year.
Also, a decision will be made after considering the name change of the mental hospital in Visakhapatnam, which is meeting the health needs of the North Andhra districts.
'In the past five years, the previous government was not able to complete the building work even though there were funds. The NDA government is able to construct buildings with modern facilities by raising funds through centrally-sponsored schemes,' Satya Kumar informed, inaugurating the Centre for Excellence at Government Hospital for Mental Care.
Further, the Minister expressed concern that 15 crore people in the country are suffering from mental illnesses and there number of psychiatrists available in the state is very less.
He opined that there are only 25,000 psychiatrists in the country and there is a need to increase the number to 50,000 soon.

Mumbai: A 31-year-old woman, eight months pregnant with twins, was rushed to KEM Hospital for intense chest pain radiating down her spine, and breathlessness. Doctors found a tear in the main blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body. But delays in diagnosis and treatment cost nearly a day, and fearing the loss of all three lives, the family moved her to a private hospital. Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Hemant Pathare, who performed the surgery, explained that in medical terms this was a case of an aortic dissection caused by a genetic disorder called Marfan syndrome. The syndrome can lead to serious heart problems. "The tear had extended to her coronary artery, and the aortic valve was leaking significantly. This caused severe fluid congestion in her lungs, and she had to be put on ventilator. Eventually, there were more complications impacting almost her entire body," he said. The open-heart surgery lasted 18 hours. By the time Tejaswini reached Jaslok, doctors were unable to detect the heartbeat of one of the babies, prompting an emergency C-section. "Marfan syndrome is risky even outside pregnancy, but during pregnancy, the risk to the mother's life is far more. The most dangerous part is that cardiac complications can strike at any time from the first day to just after delivery," said Dr Danny Laliwala, the gynaecologist who performed the delivery. Hire said Tejaswini is still recovering, while the twins are healthy. "She will have to be on lifelong blood thinners. This is likely the first such survival case in the world, given that maternal mortality in such situations can be as high as 50%, and infant mortality even higher," said Dr Pathare.

Over 4K participate in ‘Run for Nation' marathon held in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: More than 4,000 people, including 150 differently abled individuals, participated in the fifth edition of 'Run for Nation' marathon organized by VGM Hospital in the city on Sunday. While addressing the event, Dr Mohan Prasad, chairman of VGM Hospital, said, "This is a significant day in Coimbatore as the event has brought together 4,000 participants, running for a good cause. Running is a great physical exercise that keeps you healthier and reduces the risks of falling sick." He further added that the marathon was organized with the theme 'Save the Knee', as knee-related issues are becoming widespread, and there is a dire need for creating awareness about it among the public. A total cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh was given to the winners.

Furnish data on malnutrition in 4 weeks: HC tells MP govt
Bhopal: A division bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court asked district collectors from across the state to file a status report on the malnutrition situation in their respective districts. The bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf, gave four weeks for this purpose and issued notices to the state govt and the chief secretary in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) moved by a resident of Jabalpur, Deepankar Singh. Singh, in his petition, said that there is an alarming situation in MP regarding malnutrition among its people, but the state govt keeps hiding this terrible state of affairs by 'manipulating' data. He requested the court to ask for a report on malnutrition from the state govt to know the actual state of malnutrition prevalent among the people in MP so that efforts could be made to tackle the menace of malnutrition, particularly among the children. He said that according to the Poshan Tracker-2.0 and National Health Survey report, MP stands second in the country in terms of malnutrition. The petitioner said that among 66 lakh children in the age group of 0 to 6 years, 10 lakh are malnourished, and 1.36 lakh of them are severely malnourished. The prevalence of anaemia among women is 57%. It was also pointed out during the hearing that Rs 1.80 crore were paid as rent for anganwadi centres in Jabalpur district alone, but only a handful of children visit those centres. After the initial hearing, the court asked all the district collectors from across the state to furnish a report on the status of malnutrition in their respective districts within four weeks. Advocate Amit Singh Sengar and Atul Jain appeared in the case for the petitioner.
