Penge beats Hojgaard in final-day duel to win Danish Golf Championship
Hojgaard looked on course for the title in his home country when he powered into a four-shot lead midway through his front nine, only to drop four strokes in four holes from No. 10 and allow Penge to take the lead.
Penge walked down the par-5 18th with a two-shot cushion over Hojgaard in the final pairing, but saw his partner roll in an eagle putt from 10 feet to the delight of the crowd at Furesø Golf Klub in Copenhagen.
The 97th-ranked Penge needed to hole a birdie putt from 3 feet for the win and he held his nerve to shoot 4-under 67, finish on 16 under for the week and seal a second European tour title. Both victories have come this year, with the first at the Hainan Classic in April.
Hojgaard (69) was the runner-up and will remain outside the six automatic qualifying spots, just behind No. 6 Sepp Straka, in the race to get into Europe's team for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black next month.
There is one qualifying event left for both players next week. Hojgaard will play at the British Masters on the European tour and Straka is scheduled to play on the PGA Tour at the Tour Championship, which offers more qualifying points.

MADRID (AP) — Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso has praised the maturity of teenager newcomer Franco Mastantuono and downplayed the player's choice of former Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi as the world's best player. The 18-year-old Mastantuono signed a six-year deal with Madrid and said during his introduction last week that he considers his countryman Messi the best in the world. 'It's logical for Messi to be his favorite player,' Alonso said on Monday. 'He's from Argentina and he's left-footed, so it's no surprise to me.' Messi dueled with Cristiano Ronaldo for years when he played for Barcelona and Ronaldo — also considered by many the best in the world — played for Madrid. Now, Ronaldo is playing for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia while Messi is with Inter Miami in the United States. Madrid already reached a deal to sign Mastantuono but had to wait until the former River Plate player turned 18. The club reportedly paid 45 million euros ($52.5 million) in the transfer. 'The first time I spoke to Mastantuono, I was struck by his personality,' the new Madrid coach said. 'He was 17 then, and he was very sure of himself. He didn't seem at all concerned about making the jump to Real Madrid. That maturity and quality has been evident since he arrived. I know he'll settle in quickly, both on the pitch and in the dressing room.' Alonso added Mastantuono could see playing time in the team's opening La Liga match on Tuesday against Osasuna. BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Palmeiras striker Jose Manuel Lopez received his first Argentina callup on Monday for World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador.
