Princess Diana brought immense empathy into the royal family, and wasn't afraid to show her emotions in public.
A news presenter recalled on June 4 how the late Princess of Wales 'went into a whole literal sob story' about, among other topics, her sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

The late Princess of Wales—who died at age 36 after a 1997 car accident—wasn't afraid to shed tears when the moment allowed for it, and GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes, speaking on GBN Breakfast on June 4, remembered one such time when Diana displayed her caring nature, weeping openly about, among other topics, her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. In Holmes' words, Diana 'went into a whole literal sob story' (via Marie Claire).
'One day I remember I complimented her on her outfit that she was wearing,' he explained on Wednesday. The shade, per Marie Claire, was 'Royal Ulster Constabulary green,' in case you were wondering—which also happens to be 'the color of the police force in Northern Ireland at the time,' the outlet reported.
Diana said, 'Yes, RUC green, what do you think?' Holmes said. 'She started crying about a bomb explosion that had happened in Northern Ireland, and she was very, very close, very connected with all of that.' He added that the former Princess of Wales was 'very knowledgeable' about The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
'She then went on to talk about William and Harry going to school and how that upset her,' he continued. 'They went to boarding school or whatever it is, and so we talked about all those things.' (One can only wonder what Diana would think of the current issues between her sons, who she loved so fiercely.)
Holmes then went on to talk about Diana's style, as the largest auction of her wardrobe and other items—around 300 pieces in total—is set to be up for sale later this month. 'The designer of Diana's wedding dress said it was just clothes or just a dress,' Holmes' fellow GBN Breakfast panelist Ellie Costello said. 'But then Diana wore it, and then it was something special and it became a part of history, and that's exactly what happened.'
In 2023, Harry spoke of his mother's empathy, saying that 'In the midst of all that uncertainty, she led with empathy, finding the humanity in all around her and demonstrating the power of connection in the face of fear' (via People). As William prepares to be King someday, he too is leading with empathy—no doubt a skill set learned from his mother. Speaking in Cape Town, South Africa last November, the Prince of Wales said of his leadership style, 'I'm trying to do it differently, and I'm trying to do it for my generation. I'm doing it with maybe a smaller 'r' in the royal, if you like. It's more about impact, philanthropy, collaboration, convening, and helping people.'
'I'm also going to throw empathy in there as well, because I really care about what I do,' William continued. 'It helps impact people's lives. I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world.'

'Largest Princess Diana auction' features frocks, hats and bags
NEWBRIDGE, Ireland (Reuters) - From colourful frocks and hats to handbags and shoes, items belonging to the late Princess Diana go under the hammer this month in what Julien's Auctions says is the largest collection of her fashion to go to auction. The live and online "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" sale will take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, offering an array of fashion items Diana wore. "This is the largest Princess Diana auction because we have over 100 items from her amazing life and in mind Diana over 70 of her in 1997 to raise money for her charity," Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of Julien's Auctions, told Reuters on Monday. He was speaking at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge in Ireland during a pre-sale exhibition. Among the highlights is a 1988 silk floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, dubbed the "caring dress" because Diana wore it several times on hospital visits, with a price estimate of $200,000-$300,000. A cream silk embroidered evening gown Catherine Walker designed for Diana's 1986 Gulf tour has a similar price tag, while a Bruce Oldfield two-piece yellow floral ensemble she wore for Royal Ascot in 1987 is estimated at $100,000-$200,000. Other sale items include a Dior handbag gifted to her by former French first lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995, a sketch of Diana's 1981 wedding dress with tulle fabric cut-offs from when she married then Prince Charles in 1981 and a peach hat she wore for her honeymoon send-off. The auction also includes pieces belonging to other British royals including the late Queen Elizabeth II and the queen mother. Nolan said Julien's Auctions had previously sold a dress belonging to Diana for $1.14 million. "People do consider these items as an asset class now, because if people own these items today, chances are in years to come they will sell them for more than what they pay for (at) auction," he said. Part of the proceeds from the sale of Diana's items will go to charity Muscular Dystrophy UK. The pre-sale exhibition in Newbridge will run until June 17.

The disgraced Prince has reportedly refused to vacate his home, Royal Lodge, despite King Charles cutting his annual allowance and withdrawing funding for his security detail, moves that were seen as the King putting pressure on him to downsize. Prince Andrew could have moved to Frogmore Cottage, where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used to live, but reportedly has no plans to do so, according to GB News. 'He has refused to leave his lavish mansion and move to the significantly smaller Frogmore Cottage, believing it to be not grand enough for him,' property buying agent Robin Edwards told the outlet. This, of course, means that Prince Andrew has had to figure out how to pay for security without the money from the crown. Edwards claimed that 'he has apparently been forced to economise and hire a cut-price security firm to guard him and Royal Lodge.' Considering Prince Andrew's troubled past and the continued interest in his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the prevailing thought is that once Prince William is in charge, he will also escalate the response to his uncle. This is not at all surprising, considering reports that he's ready to do that against his own brother. 'Prince William has long had a strained and distant relationship with Andrew,' royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital, adding that the Prince holds 'a grudge against his disgraced uncle.' 'Andrew's future within the royal family is beyond bleak, since Prince William is firmly opposed to any public rehabilitation with no foreseeable path back,' Fordwich claimed. Instead, the two, who are not working royals, are expected to take on larger roles once Prince William becomes King. William and Harry even make it to the collection themselves in the form of a signed holiday card featuring a photo of the two with their parents from 1989 and a signed photograph of Diana with her two sons from 1990, among other photographs of the Wales family from yesteryear.
