Car recalls: Why they happen and what buyers should know
Why do car recalls happen? Here's what to know if your car has an open recall.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued multiple recalls last week, including notices for over 90,000 General Motors vehicles.
Are you looking to see if any recalls were issued on your vehicle? If the car isn't listed below, owners can check USA TODAY's automotive recall database or search NHTSA's database for new recalls. The NHTSA website allows you to search for recalls based on your vehicle identification number, or VIN.
Here's what you need to know about the vehicle recalls published by NHTSA from March 10 to March 16.
General Motors recalls Cadillacs and Camaros
General Motors recalled certain Cadillac and Chevrolet cars equipped with a 10-speed transmission.
A transmission control valve in the recalled vehicles may be susceptible to excess wear over time. The excess wear may cause gradual loss of pressure within the valve that can cause harsh shifting or the wheels may experience a momentary lock up, according to the recall report.
The affected vehicles include:
2019 to 2020 Cadillac CT6
2020 to 2021 Cadillac CT4
2020 to 2021 Cadillac CT5
2020 to 2022 Chevrolet Camaro
Dealers are to install transmission control module monitoring software for free and notification letters are to be sent April 21.
Affected vehicles: 90,081
Range Rovers recalled for seat belt issue
Land Rover recalled certain 2025 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles for a potentially faulty seat belt.
The second-row center seat belt buckle may not latch correctly due to a manufacturing error, according to the NHTSA.
Dealers are to replace the seat belt free of charge and owner notification letters are to be sent May 2.
Affected vehicles: 7,276
Ineos recalls Grenadiers
Ineos Automotive Americas recalled certain 2024 Grenadier vehicles.
The door button mechanism on the recalled vehicles may have been assembled without a sufficient application of grease, preventing the door from fully latching, according to the NHTSA.
Ineos will replace the door button assemblies for free and owner notification letters are to be sent between March 31 and May 4.
Affected vehicles: 7,022

5 New Luxury SUVs That Are a Bad Investment for the Upper Class
The luxury SUV space offers a wide range of options that promise performance, comfort and status. But, like every class and price tier of vehicles, it's not immune to models that may be lacking when it comes to long-term value. A high sticker price doesn't guarantee a solid investment, especially when resale value sinks fast or the vehicle lacks the refinement, innovation or exclusivity expected in the upper tier. Be Aware: Check Out: Michael Capote, chief marketing officer at German Car Depot, and Alex Black, chief marketing officer of EpicVIN, share which luxury SUVs look the part but might fall short over time. Pricing starts at: $84,445 It's big and powerful, but that's where the appeal could end for upper-class buyers. According to Capote, the QX80 'fails to match modern premium standards.' Thanks to its outdated technology system and an interior, this lavish ride 'does not justify the price,' Black added. It may score high on reliability, but a lack of refinement and forward-thinking features drags it out of contention in a segment defined by innovation and polish. Be Aware: Pricing starts at: $55,535 Black pointed out that while the design of the Lincoln Nautilus is attractive, it's essentially a Ford underneath, which is not necessarily something that buyers in the market for a luxury SUV priced over $60,000 are looking for. Resale value plummets quickly, and discerning buyers expect more than a fancy badge for their investment. Pricing starts at: $90,295 The Cadillac Escalade is bold but flawed. Capote notes that 'it experiences rapid depreciation and inconsistent reliability issues, especially with… electronic components.' For the cost, there's simply too much risk in its lifespan. Prestige means more than size and screen real estate. Pricing starts at: $50,590 It lacks the prestige of its sibling, the Escalade, and, according to Black, its interior materials feel more middle of the line than luxury. With so many refined options out there for upper class car enthusiasts to choose from, the Cadillac XT6 fails to earn its keep. Pricing starts at: $84,445 The second Lincoln on the list is one that can get lost in the crowd. According to Capote, the Navigator blends in with more mass-market vehicles, failing to lacks the exclusive brand appeal that high-net-worth buyers are generally looking for. 'Luxury should feel rare and elevated,' he said, 'If it doesn't, it risks becoming just another expensive ride.' Editor's note: Photos are for representational purposes only. Ferrari Runs 1-2-3 in 24 Hours of Le Mans at Six-Hour Mark

They leading hypercars completed 97 laps in the opening six hours. If Ferrari wins three in a row, it will be the first time since the Italian company has won three or more in a row since it was bested by Ford in 1966, ending a six-year streak of wins for the prancing horse. The No. 6 Porsche Penske runs fourth after becoming the lead Porsche after its sister car, the No. 5, lost momentum after losing the lead to the Ferrari in the third hour. Antonio Fuoco took the lead in the No. 50 Ferrari 499P for the first time two hours and 35 minutes into the race by passing Mathieu Jaminet in the No. 5 Porsche Penske through Indianapolis corner. From here, Fuoco's fellow Ferrari drivers would join him up front en route to a Ferrari 1-2-3 at the six-hour mark. After Mathieu lost second place, Porsche made the team decision to switch the No. 5 and No. 6, sending Laurens Vanthoor after the leading Ferraris. Toyota Gazoo Racing No. 8 runs fifth ahead of the No. 6 Porsche Penske. After starting on the pole, the Cadillac Hertz Team Jota No. 12 finds itself in eighth place. The Peugeot No. 94 and BMW M Team WRT No. 10 round out the top ten.
