Bowen wrote that Cincinnati(Bengals) and Carolina(Panthers) would also work here, but (Justin)Simmons fits really well as an interchangeable safety opposite Antoine Winfield Jr. in Todd Bowles' defense.

The Wilson release came with an NFL record $85 million in dead-money hits to the Broncos' salary cap, which meant the team would have to move on from some players to create breathing room.
It also necessitated that the team get skinny and young overnight.
If the Broncos didn't have so much dead money due to the Wilson fiasco, would Simmons still have been cut? Perhaps not cut outright, but he probably would have still been approached about a restructure.'

That being said, the fact that Simmons played his best football with the Broncos should be the deciding factor. Simmons likely believes now that the Broncos can get the best out of him, and it should be a smooth transition rather than having him bounce around.
While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could absolutely sign Simmons, that may not be where he winds up for 2025.'
