Odisha Police prepares massive security for Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra
Odisha Police has prepared massive security arrangements for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath later this month, an official said on Tuesday.
Director General of Police Y B Khurania on Monday held a high-level meeting with top police officers including those looking after intelligence, law and order, rail and coastal security. He ordered them to give special attention to incidents like possible stampede situation, drive against criminals and devotees amenities.
The DGP also stressed on the deployment of K9 squad or dog squad, the official said.
Several Union ministers and many VVIPs are likely to visit Puri during the Rath Yatra as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has invited many Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states to visit Puri during the Rath Yatra.
Last year President Droupadi Murmu had witnessed the Rath Yatra festival in Puri.
The DGP also directed to ensure smooth traffic movement, barricade arrangements, and quick resolution of various problems in collaboration with the district administration. The meeting also discussed the issue of dealing with emergency situations, the official said.
Installation of CCTV at various important places in the city, road dividers, traffic zones for traffic management, adequate parking arrangements at various places in the city, maintenance of an orderly traffic system and others were discussed in the meeting.
Similarly, patrolling by police on the sea beach and opening of temporary police outposts there were also discussed in detail.
The Odisha police expect a congregation of lakhs of devotees during the Rath Yatra festival which is celebrated for about a fortnight.
While the Lord's bathing ceremony 'Snan Yatra' will be observed on June 11, the Rath Yatra and chariot pulling is scheduled on June 27. Devotees in large numbers also congregate in Puri on 'Naba Jouban darshan' day (new face darshan) on June 26, a day before chariot pulling.
The Hera Panchami festival will be held on July 1 followed by Sandhya Darshan on July 4 and Bahuda Yatra (return car festival) on July 5.
The Suna Besha (golden attire on chariot) on July 6, Adharpana (drink offering) ritual on July 7 and finally Niladri Bije (return to temple) on July 8, will mark the end of the Rath Yatra festival.

Kerala minister urges Centre to reconstruct collapsed portion of NH 66
The Kerala government apprised Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari of the need to urgently reconstruct the collapsed section of the NH 66 at Kooriyad and complete the six-lane expansion of the project in a time-bound manner, the state public works minister PA Muhammad Riyas said Wednesday. Riyas accompanied chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan and other top officials at a meeting in Delhi with Gadkari on Wednesday in the backdrop of complaints of cracks and fissures in several reaches of the NH 66 and the fallout of the collapse of a section at Kooriyad. Vijayan and Gadkari previously met in December last year to evaluate the ongoing road and highway projects in Kerala. At a press conference at Kerala House, Riyas said, 'The Union minister has promised the CM that steps will be taken to address all the current (construction-related) issues in the NH66 project and prevent any further mishaps. A 45-metre-wide six-lane NH 66 from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram is the dream of every Malayali. We know how the project at one stage was suspended and how it is being Union minister has informed us that the project can be completed by December this year. It will be a new year gift to the people of the state.' The PWD minister said a 360-metre-long viaduct will be constructed at the spot where a section of the elevated under-construction highway caved in onto the service roads at Kooriyad on May 20. Several motorists were injured in the incident. 'Those responsible for the collapse within the NHAI have been suspended. The contracting firm has been barred from taking part in future tender proceedings. The state has informed the Union ministry of the cracks and fissures in some of the other reaches of the NH 66. The NHAI is overseeing every aspect of the highway from alignment to construction,' the minister said. He added that the notification for the outer ring road project in Thiruvananthapuram is expected by July this year. Riyas underlined that the heft land acquisition costs in Kerala compared to other states in India continues to be a big challenge for major infrastructure projects. 'To give you an example, land acquisition for a kilometre of road in any other state is about ₹2 crore. In Kerala, it is ₹37 crore. That's how wide the disparity is. We need to evaluate this aspect going forward in the future,' he added.

Srikalahasti MLA releases white paper on development activities
Tirupati: Srikalahasti MLA Bojjala Sudhir Reddy released a white paper outlining the constituency's development over the past year, highlighting Rs.71 lakh spent across sectors to improve infrastructure and public services. Speaking to the media on completing one year of his election on Wednesday, he said the development journey began with reforms at the Srikalahasti temple, including curbing broker systems and boosting Hundi collections. Addressing civic issues, the MLA launched silt cleaning operations in response to drainage complaints. Hostel renovations for SC and BC students were undertaken in a corporate model. Government hospitals were upgraded with essential medicines and RO plants using CSR funds. In coordination with Union Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu, flight services from Delhi and Mumbai to Tirupati were started within 100 days. Sudhir Reddy underlined prompt pension disbursement to 4,000 beneficiaries on the 1st of every month, doubling previous amounts. Over Rs.75 lakh was disbursed under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. Drinking water needs were addressed by installing RO plants and digging 70+ borewells. Road works were completed on key routes including the Srikalahasti–Thotambedu stretch. SKHT College was reopened and local schools and Anganwadis renovated. The local railway station, bus stands, and shelters saw upgrades through central and CSR funds. Support for farmers and minorities came through subsidised loans and renovation of religious sites like the Shadi Mahal and Eidgah Masjid. A mega job mela saw 1,788 youth placed. Regular mandal-wise reviews and 'WhatsApp Governance' are enhancing accountability. He accused the previous YSRCP government of corruption and reaffirmed his commitment to Srikalahasti's progress.

YSRCP leaders accuses NDA govt. of indulging in diversion politics
Visakhapatnam: YSRCP leaders alleged that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu backstabbed people of Andhra Pradesh by not keeping the promises made before the elections. Citing it as one of the prime reasons to observe 'Vennupotu Dinam' on June 4, they emphasised that the state of affairs in AP is pretty bad, exhorted the people to see the true picture and not to get carried away by what the CM projects. As per the party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's instructions, a protest was organised here on Wednesday under the leadership of Visakhapatnam South and East constituency coordinators Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and Molli Apparao. The rally was held from Visakhapatnam Zilla Parishad junction to the District Collector's office. Later, a representation was submitted to District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad by the YSRCP leaders. Speaking on the occasion, Visakhapatnam district president KK Raju alleged that Naidu had backstabbed NTR and became the Chief Minister and now he is resorting to the same pattern for the people of AP. The YSRCP district president pointed out that in a year-long stint of anarchic rule, Naidu targeted YSRCP leaders and activists by fabricating various cases against them. Further, Raju criticised that the NDA government is focusing on diversion politics and neglecting the welfare of the people completely. He expressed confidence that the people will teach Naidu a befitting lesson for certain in the next elections.
