PUTRAJAYA : Police have denied that the investigation into the death of a 17-year-old student in Klang was classified as no further action (NFA) and only recently reopened.
Klang Utara police chief S Vijaya Rao said the case has been under investigation as a sudden death since May 27, which was when the girl was pronounced dead at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital.
'We didn't 'reopen' investigations. We started our investigations from the day we received the report (and it is still being conducted),' he said, adding that the victim's cause of death was still pending laboratory results.
Vijaya said the statements of 25 people had been taken, including from teachers and students at the victim's school.
He said the investigation paper would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office after the statements of several more people had been recorded.
The student died on May 27 after allegedly ingesting poison while in a classroom with three other students during recess. One of them later told teachers the student had collapsed and was foaming at the mouth.
The parents accused the school of failing to provide immediate medical attention, claiming staff waited nearly two hours for an ambulance instead of sending her to a nearby clinic, which was only two minutes away.
The victim's father, M Gopalan, 47, also claimed that the school did not administer first aid while waiting for the ambulance.
He had lodged two police reports – one against six school staff members for alleged gross negligence and evidence tampering, and another against three students for allegedly pressuring his daughter to consume the poison.
Earlier today, activist Arun Dorasamy claimed the case was initially classified as NFA before being reopened, with the cops taking the statements of the victim's parents, Gopalan and P Magaswari, 45, yesterday.
'We are thankful the police are now conducting a more detailed and serious investigation,' Arun said at a press conference outside the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) headquarters here.
Arun was with the girl's mother, Magaswari, and the family's lawyer, S Vikram, to lodge a report with MACC, alleging abuse of power by an education ministry officer involved in the case.

‘Crazy': Farhash Wafa Salvador denies involvement in Rafizi son attack amid rumours

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Entrepreneur Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak has reportedly denied today rumours linking him to the attack on Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's son. Malaysiakini reported the former political secretary of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim replying with a one-word response about the allegations: 'Crazy.' This comes after former economy minister Rafizi said two male suspects on a motorcycle, dressed in black and wearing helmets had tailed his wife's car before grabbing his son and stabbing him with a syringe. Yesterday, Rafizi said that a group of whistleblowers had approached him last week with information on a scandal, and alleged that an attack on his son was meant to stop him from pursuing the matter. He said in his opinion this was a strategy to ensure that he drops the matter altogether. Rafizi said police were investigating the possible link between the attack and his work, which he believes is connected. He explained that his son will need repeated blood tests over six months to rule out drugs, poison, or viral infections. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar has since said the police have tightened security measures for Rafizi following the attack. Formerly Perak PKR chief, Farhash lost the contest for Gombak PKR division chief in 2022 to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Farhash is or had been a director and/or shareholder in at least ten private companies including MMAG Holdings Bhd, HeiTech Padu Bhd, 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd, Apex Equity Holdings Bhd, Berjaya Construction Bhd, and Pacific Samudera Sdn Bhd.

DAP orders nationwide police reports, accuses Umno Youth of bullying and scaring off local traders with Kepala Batas protest

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The DAP has condemned Umno Youth chief Akmal Salleh for leading a march and demonstration in front of a hardware shop in Kepala Batas yesterday, despite police warnings against holding gatherings. In a statement, the party said the act amounted to bullying and intimidation of the trader, who had already apologised over the flag incident and was still under investigation. 'Akmal's decision to disregard police warnings is also a direct challenge to the rule of law and a disruption of public order, causing unease among traders in the surrounding area and forcing them to close their businesses earlier than usual,' said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook. 'Acts like this go beyond the limits of the law and the norms of Malaysia's multiracial society. Appropriate punishment must be meted out for such extreme behaviour.' DAP Socialist Youth wings nationwide has since been instructed to lodge police reports under Section 503 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, Section 504 for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and Section 505 for statements conducing to public mischief. He said reports would also be made under Section 507B of the Penal Code for causing harassment, distress, fear or anxiety, and Section 507C for uttering words likely to cause such effects. 'I reiterate that the Jalur Gemilang, as a symbol of national sovereignty, must be flown correctly and with full respect. However, threats, bullying and inciting tension are not the way to resolve this matter,' Loke added. Yesterday, the police had urged the cancellation of a planned gathering in Bertam here today over the issue of Malaysian flag, to prevent any confrontation between opposing groups. PDRM said the move was to safeguard the safety of the local community and maintain public order, after both Umno Youth and DAP planned to host events on the matter. The controversy began when a 59-year-old hardware shop owner in Kepala Batas, Penang, was investigated after the Jalur Gemilang was seen hanging upside-down outside his premises. The shop owner has reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake made while measuring a flagpole, which he corrected soon after. Umno Youth however proceeded with its protest, with hundreds attending, along with a counter-protest by civil society Lawyers for Liberty.
