Report: Toronto FC acquiring M Djordje Mihailovic from Rapids
Toronto FC are making a splash by acquiring star midfielder Djordje Mihailovic from the Colorado Rapids for an $8 million transfer fee, GiveMeSport reported Monday.
The Rapids, in the thick of the playoff hunt, did not want to move Mihailovic at first, but the U.S. men's national team player requested they approve Toronto's bid, per the report.
The $8 million fee would mark a club record for Colorado. There is a reported $1 million in add-ons and a sell-on percentage tied to the deal.
Mihailovic, 26, is headed to his fourth MLS club. He joined the Rapids ahead of the 2024 season after time with the Chicago Fire (2017-20), CF Montreal (2021-22) and the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar (2023).
Mihailovic has nine goals with seven assists through 24 matches (all starts) this season, on pace to break the career highs of 11 goals he set last year. In 187 career MLS matches, Mihailovic has recorded 40 goals and 21 assists.
He has also made 11 appearances for the USMNT, scoring one goal.
Toronto (5-13-6, 21 points) sits in a distant 12th place in the Eastern Conference, 14 points out of the ninth and final playoff spot. Colorado (8-11-6, 30 points), meanwhile, holds ninth place in the West.

Bo Bichette homered twice and drove in six runs, Ernie Clement had a career-best five of Toronto's season-high 25 hits and the Blue Jays beat the hometown Colorado Rockies 15-1 on Monday night. Eric Lauer (7-2) allowed a run in six innings, giving up seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Clement capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth and finished with three runs scored. Bichette, Nathan Lukes and Joey Loperfido had three hits apiece and Daulton Varsho had four runs batted in. Lukes hit the first pitch of the game into centre-field for a double and scored when Bichette singled two pitches later. Clement singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch by Rockies starter Tanner Gordon (2-4) and scored when Davis Schneider singled to make it 2-0 in the second. Toronto (66-48) is tied with Detroit for the best record in the American League. Tyler Freeman doubled with two outs in the fifth and scored when Ezequiel Tovar singled. Lukes singled to drive in Clement, Bichette hit a three-run shot and Varsho added an RBI single in the seventh to make it 14-1. Fresh off rout, Blue Jays vie for series win vs. Rockies

That said, the Blue Jays made themselves at home in Denver on Monday night with a 15-1 romp over the Colorado Rockies in the opener of a three-game series. Toronto will have a chance to clinch the series on Tuesday night when it sends Jose Berrios (7-4, 3.84 ERA) to the mound against Colorado's Anthony Molina (0-0, 7.27) in a battle of right-handers. Molina allowed one run on three hits in an inning in relief last season in his lone career appearance against the Blue Jays. Berrios has faced the Rockies twice in his career, winning both starts over 14 2/3 shutout innings. Tuesday will be his first time pitching in Colorado, and he can build off Eric Lauer's start in Monday's victory. Lauer was 0-6 with a 12.73 ERA in seven starts in Denver before allowing just one run over six innings on Monday night. Beating the Rockies in the opener was a positive sign for the Blue Jays, who had lost four of their last five games on the road and are 28-29 away from home. (They are 38-19 at home.) Monday's victory also gave the Blue Jays just their third win in the last nine games overall and comes after they dropped two of three games against Kansas City. 'That's what you want, especially in a team in our situation. You want guys to force their hand and earn a spot. Then guys that lose their spot, they need to go to work and get better so they can come back and get their spot back.'
