Delhi Police chief sets fresh target for the force
According to a Delhi Police spokesperson, the commissioner congratulated officers and staff for ensuring incident-free security arrangements on Independence Day and said, 'Despite working so hard, even beyond working hours, we have not been able to win the trust of the public in the form that we should have done.'
Drawing from the Prime Minister's speech, Singh outlined three areas of focus for the force — self-reliance, technology adoption and healthy competition — and gave timelines to come up with a proposal.
The commissioner asked units to submit proposals within 15 days on reducing dependence on other agencies for specialised resources such as commandos, bomb disposal squads and wireless systems. He also said that the force needs to 'go further' in surveillance, cybercrime prevention, anti-drone defence and counter-terror operations. He directed technology units to form committees and submit recommendations within a month. Singh stressed on the need to cultivate healthy competition within the force while discarding jealousy, at both the individual and organisational levels.
Singh also congratulated 18 Delhi Police personnel who were conferred police medals for distinguished and meritorious service on Independence Day.
Meanwhile, eight Delhi Police personnel, including an inspector, were suspended on Saturday after a surprise inspection by Singh found that they were absent from duty outside an ISKCON temple in Shahbad Dairy. Officials said Singh was reviewing Janmashtami security arrangements across the city when he noticed that officers posted at Gate No. 2 of the temple were missing. A senior police officer confirmed the suspensions and said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain if more personnel were absent. The suspended staff range from constables to inspector-rank officers, the officer added, stressing that strict action has been ordered.

'Vote chori' charge likely to be game changer The Election Commission's conduct and its conduct of electoral roll revision and elections and the BJP's defence of the Election Commission have become a burning issue. The phrase, 'vote chori', described as 'improper' by the Election Commission, now has wide currency. It resonates with the people as 'Bofors' and '2G' once did. Now the BJP and the Election Commission find themselves on the receiving end of the Opposition's campaign for transparency in the poll process. If the momentum that the campaign gains is anything to go by, it could turn out to be a game-change and BJP's nemesis. Few people believe that the Election Commission does not differentiate between political parties. Both the Election Commission and the BJP speak the same language. The claim of 'vote chori' is not an insult to the Constitution, but the fact of vote chori, if proven with evidence, is. More and more people come to believe that all is not right with the way the electoral rolls are prepared and elections are held. The fear of disenfranchise looms large. Voter manipulation is no ordinary crime in a democracy. The Election Commission cannot afford to be seen as complicit in the crime. BJP leader slams Rahul's remarks on RSS, wants him to apologise
Hyderabad: BJP Telangana's vice-president Dr. N.V.S.S. Prabhakar strongly criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), made in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech. Addressing the media on Sunday, Dr. Prabhakar defended the Prime Minister's praise of the RSS, citing historical instances where the organization played a pivotal role in national service. He recalled that during the 1962 Sino-Indian war, RSS volunteers assisted the Indian Army, prompting then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to invite them to participate in the Republic Day Parade of 1963. 'Nehru himself acknowledged their patriotism,' Prabhakar stated, 'and this is recorded in parliamentary history.' He further referenced former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's Lok Sabha speech, which highlighted RSS contributions during the Indo-Pak wars, including traffic control and emergency relief in Delhi. Five men electrocuted to death during Janmashtami celebrations in Hyderabad
Five people died of electrocution in Hyderabad when they came in contact with live electric wires while pulling a chariot carrying Lord Krishna idol as part of Janmashtami celebrations late on Sunday night, the police said. The tragic incident took place at Gokulnagar in Ramanthapur area around midnight, and the deceased were identified as Krishna Yadav (21), Suresh Yadav (34), Srikanth Reddy (35), Rudra Vikas (39), and Rajendra Reddy (45). 'Their bodies were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem. We are yet to ascertain how the mishap exactly happened. An investigation is on,' an official from the Uppal police station said. According to the police, the men were taking out a procession of Lord Krishna on a decorated chariot. When the vehicle towing the chariot broke down and was halted on the roadside, a few youngsters began pulling the chariot manually. 'In the process, the chariot touched high-tension power lines. Nine people who were pulling the chariot sustained electric shocks and were flung away by the impact,' the official said. Locals, who were initially terrified, rushed to provide first aid before shifting the injured to a private hospital nearby. However, doctors confirmed that five had already died. 'The other four injured are undergoing treatment at the same hospital,' the official said, adding that their condition is stable. Telangana transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar and state Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed their condolences over the incident. 'Since it is raining heavily for the last few days, people should take adequate precautions while taking out such processions, as there is every possibility of snapping of electric lines due to rains,' Prabhakar said, adding that the government will extend all possible assistance to the bereaved families.
