The North Coast is full of things to do, and, week by week, the list of possible activities only grows. Stoked, an Egyptian startup with a mission to develop Egypt's outdoor sports and recreational attractions, is bringing a rad new activity to Sahel: skating.
Stoked's Sahel skate park provides skaters with one of the biggest skating spaces in Egypt, featuring ramps, rails, tubes, all the things to make your Tony Hawk dreams come true - all accompanied by a sweet beach breeze. Who needs California?
The skate park is located in Playa, at the 146th KM on the Alexandria-Matrouh road, and will officially open its doors on August 15th.

By 2025, performance fees in the Arab music scene have become a fascination for fans and industry watchers alike—functioning almost like an economic index, rising and falling with the same volatility as financial markets. At the top of the chart stands Amr Diab, the unrivalled brand name of Arabic pop. His staying power stems from decades of hits and a finely tuned pricing strategy. According to one major Egyptian event organiser, Diab works with five separate rate cards, adjusting fees according to event type, host profile, location, and personal relationships. Public concerts bring him $200,000–$500,000, while corporate-sponsored shows can reach $1m. Wedding performances in Egypt fetch around EGP 6m, doubling for overseas events. On rare occasions, Diab waives his fee entirely—covering only his band's costs—such as for the wedding of a prominent producer's daughter. This tiered pricing is common among A-list artists, who treat their performances as dynamic commodities rather than fixed offerings. Rates fluctuate depending on audience profile, season, and media exposure. Among female stars, Nancy Ajram and Najwa Karam lead the pack. Ajram commands about $120,000 per concert, rising to $200,000 for exclusive private events. Karam has kept her fee steady for years, resisting market pressure despite speculation. If Ajram's approach is driven by ticket sales, Myriam Fares follows a different path—her fee has remained fixed at $50,000 since 2017, partly due to health-related career pauses. In Egypt, Sherine Abdel Wahab tops the women's list at $125,000 per event, followed by Angham at $80,000. For male performers, Tamer Hosny and Mohamed Hamaki earn $80,000–$100,000, reflecting steady but plateaued demand. Some names, like Saad Lamjarred, have yet to convert fame into premium rates, with his $50,000 ceiling often linked to controversies. Others, such as Majida El Roumi, Ragheb Alama, and George Wassouf, have kept their rates unchanged for over a decade, preferring stability to risk. Industry experts note that a single viral hit can boost a singer's fee by 20–30% within a year, while scandals, illness, or poor publicity can cause instant drops. Event timing, geographic market, audience demographics, live broadcasts, and even stage design can all influence the final figure. Some artists inflate their publicised rates to project prestige, while others accept lower fees in exchange for strategic exposure or entry into new markets. Ultimately, in 2025, a singer's fee is no longer just a payment—it's a tradable certificate of artistic capital. Some secure their value and hold; others gamble for rapid gains. And a few walk the tightrope between favour and profit, aware that in this market, opportunities are fleeting—and often, once lost, gone for good.

Winners announced for third Mexican literature translation contest in Egypt - City Lights - Life & Style
Aiming to deepen cultural ties and boost Spanish-language learning in Egypt, the Mexican embassy and Egypt's National Centre for Translation honoured winners of the third Mexican Literature Translation Contest in Cairo. The Embassy of Mexico in Egypt, in cooperation with the National Centre for Translation at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, held the award ceremony for the third Mexican Literature Translation Contest into Arabic on 12 August. This annual initiative seeks to support local talent among translators and interpreters, showcase Mexican literature and the Spanish language, and foster cultural ties between the two nations. The ceremony was presided over by Leonora Rueda, Ambassador of Mexico, and Professor Karma Samy, Director of the National Centre for Translation. The selected work for translation was Canek, a celebrated novel by Emilio Abreu Gómez and a landmark of Mexican literature. The book recounts the life and rebellion of the Mayan leader Jacinto Canek, blending poetic prose with historical narrative. The first prize, valued at USD 1,000, was awarded to Mohamed Gomaa Tawfik Fadel, a translator and researcher specialising in Spanish and Latin American studies. The contest, launched in January 2024 during the Cairo International Book Fair, attracted 16 finalist translations. The winning work will be published and presented at the Cairo International Book Fair in 2026. # The jury comprised Professors Nadia Gamal El-Din (Faculty of Al-Alsun, Ain Shams University), Khaled Mohamed Abdel-Moneim (Faculty of Languages and Translation, Al-Azhar University), and Khaled Ibrahim Awad Salem (Higher Institute for Translation, Academy of Arts). Special recognition was given to three other top entries: the first honourable mention went to Noha El-Hag Hassan Abdo; the second to Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed; and the third to Roqaya Mohamed El-Tohami. Abdel-Rahman Essam Abdel-Gawad was named a promising young translator. Ambassador Rueda noted: 'The competition, which began in 2021, has now been institutionalised and has become an important platform for honouring the work of Spanish-language learners and Egyptian translators. I am very glad that the interest of Egyptian youth in learning Spanish, as one of the most widely spoken languages worldwide, and in translating Mexican literature, is on the rise.' The generous support of CEMEX Egypt made it possible to offer the main prize, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to social responsibility and promoting young Egyptian talent and cultural exchange. This event not only celebrates the art of literary translation but also reaffirms the value of building cultural bridges through literature, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation between Mexico and Egypt.
