Odisha govt appoints Madhuri Dixit as brand ambassador of handloom industry

News182 days ago
Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (PTI) The Odisha government on Thursday appointed Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit as brand ambassador of the state's handloom industry.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement at the inauguration of the Exhibition-cum-Knowledge Sharing for Textile Advantage or 'EKTA', an initiative to promote handloom products, marking the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations in the state.
Speaking at the event, Dixit expressed admiration for Odisha's rich textile heritage and emphasised the importance of preserving traditional crafts through modern platforms like 'EKTA'.
'When I first draped a Bomkai saree, or ran my fingers across finely woven Sambalpuri 'ekat', I just did not feel the fabric, I felt the soul of the weaver, the rhythm of looms and legacy of generations speaking through silent patterns," she said.
'These are not just textiles or handicrafts, they are living testaments to Odia resilience, creativity and timeless bond between the art and the identity. In every motif, there is a story, in every art, there is a prayer and every artist's eyes are a dream, to be seen, valued and passed on," the Bollywood actor said.
The 'EKTA' initiative aims to provide market access, training and financial support to handloom artisans across the state, officials said.
The chief minister expressed hope that with the active support of Dixit, garments made from Odisha handloom will gain recognition in the fashion world of the country and abroad. PTI AAM RBT

Coolie Box Office: Rajinikanth's Film Earns Rs 250 Crore Before Release, Beats Vijay's Leo

Last Updated: Reportedly, Coolie has already earned Rs 30 crore from its advance bookings overseas. Rajinikanth's Coolie is one of the most anticipated films of the year, and it appears to be all set to dominate the box office. While bookings for the film are already open, it has now been reported that Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial has also earned Rs 250 crore already. How? Let's find out: Coolie Earns Rs 250 Crore Even Before Release? If a report by Pinkvilla is to be believed, the Rajinikanth starrer, which has been made on a massive budget of Rs 375 crore, has already earned close to Rs 250 crore from the sale of its international, digital, music, and satellite rights. Reportedly, the film's international rights have been sold for Rs 68 crore. This means that the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has scored the second biggest deal of all time for a Tamil film. Coolie Rules International Market, Beats Leo Another report by Sacnilk claims that Coolie has already earned Rs 30 crore from its advance bookings overseas. With this, the film is likely to achieve the biggest opening for a Tamil film in the international markets, surpassing Thalapathy Vijay's Leo. Interestingly, Leo was also directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and had collected Rs 66 crore on its opening day from overseas territories in 2023. Will Coolie Have Early Morning Shows? In Kerala and Karnataka, select theatres will kick off early screenings as soon as 6 am on August 14. However, in Tamil Nadu, fans will have to wait until 9 am for the first show due to local regulations. The Tamil Nadu government has prohibited early morning screenings ever since a fan tragically lost his life during the first-day-first-show of Thunivu in 2023. As a result, theatres across the state have confirmed that Coolie will not be screened before 9 am. The film has also been given an 'A' certificate by the Censor Board, restricting entry to viewers aged 18 and above. Several cinemas have already issued public disclaimers to ensure audiences are aware. Apart from Rajinikanth, Coolie also stars stalwarts from the Indian film industry like Nagarjuna, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Soubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles.
