‘Government Gave Freedom, Country Gave Strength': Army Chief Hails Op Sindoor's Success

Last Updated: Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi hailed the army saying that the military destroyed nine terrorist hideouts without any civilian casualties. Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Sunday hailed Operation Sindoor- India's military strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan in response to April 22's ghastly Pahalgam terror attack—saying that it was not just a military operation but was an expression of the nation's unity, resolve, and self-confidence. In his inaugural podcast with Ibex Tarana 88.4 FM, the first-of-its-kind Community Radio Station based in Jyotirmath in Uttarakhand, which General Dwivedi inaugurated, he said that the military operation was successful because of the two reasons: one the government gave the freedom and the public trusted the military, which inspired them. to carry out the strikes. He further hailed the army saying that the military destroyed nine terrorist hideouts without any civilian casualties which demonstrates that the Indian Army is not only powerful but also responsible. 'I am proud that the soldiers of the Indian Army completed this mission with discipline, restraint, and immense courage. This victory belongs to the entire nation. Operation Sindoor is a decisive response to terrorism," he said. General Upendra Dwivedi further remarked that whenever a mother or sister applies sindoor, she would remember the soldiers of the Indian Army. Operation Sindoor India launched 'precision strikes" under Operation Sindoor on nine terror targets in Pakistan and PoK following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The strikes killed over 100 terrorists including 10 family members of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar and four close aides. Targets included Jaish's Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, Sarjal camp in Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli, and the Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad. Lashkar's strongholds — Markaz Taiba in Murdike, Markaz Ahle Hadith in Barnala, and Shwawai Nalla camp in Muzaffarabad — were also hit. Hizbul Mujahideen's facilities at Makaz Raheel Shahid in Kotli and Mehmoona Joya in Sialkot were among those targeted. The strikes, carried out with surgical precision, mark one of the most significant cross-border counter-terror operations since Balakot. Why It Was Named 'Operation Sindoor'? The codename 'Operation Sindoor', under which India responded to the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack carried a message that was both emotionally resonant and symbolically heroic. Approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the name was chosen to symbolically reflect India's response to the Pahalgam attack, keeping in mind the widows of the terror attack. Himanshi Narwal from Haryana, Aishanya Dwivedi from Uttar Pradesh, Shital Kalathiya and Kajalben Parmar from Gujarat, Sohini Adhikari from Kolkata, Pragati Jagdale from Maharashtra, Sheela Ramachandran from Kerala, Jennifer Nathaniel from Madhya Pradesh and Jaya Mishra were the women whose husbands were killed by the terrorists in Pahalgam. It was Himanshi Narwal, married for just six days, kneeling beside the body of her husband, Navy officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who became the face of the tragedy. Days later, Himanshi appeared paying tribute to her husband, but without the sindoor (vermillion) that shines on the forehead of married Hindu women. First Published: June 08, 2025, 20:17 IST

NIA to Probe Murder of Hindu Leader Suhas Shetty in Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has handed over the investigation into the recent murder of Hindu leader Suhas Shetty in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in what is being seen as a significant move to address growing concerns over religiously motivated violence in the coastal region. Suhas Shetty was brutally attacked and killed on May 1in Mangaluru taluk near Kinnigoli, allegedly by a group of six men belonging to the Muslim community. The incident, which sent shockwaves across the communally sensitive coastal belt of Karnataka, had sparked calls for a deeper, more thorough investigation, with several leaders expressing fears of an organised conspiracy. Taking early initiative, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta was the first to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to transfer the case to the NIA, citing the possibility of radical networks operating behind the scenes. The BJP leader welcomed the Centre's decision and thanked the Home Minister for acting swiftly. 'This is not merely a local law and order issue. There could be a broader agenda at play, and only a central agency like the NIA has the resources and reach to investigate such matters thoroughly,' Capt. Chowta said in a statement. The murder of Suhas Shetty is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, which has witnessed periodic outbreaks of communal tension over the past decade. The involvement of a central agency is expected to bring national attention to the pattern of targeted killings and help unearth deeper motives if any. While local police had made multiple arrests in connection with the case, questions remained about the broader planning and possible ideological motivations. With the NIA stepping in, investigators will now examine whether there were any links to extremist groups or cross-border influences. The agency is expected to officially take over the case in the coming days. It could be recalled here that the NIA had also taken up the murder of Praveen Nettaru a top functionery of Youth wing of the BJP following which the case has reached a significant stage. Even in the case of Shetty murder, the BJP and the Hindu groups had accused that a certain mole in the Police department had allegedly checked the car of Suhas Shetty just minutes before the attack and made sure that his car was not carrying any weapons. Minutes after this check the attack was made and he was brutally killed. The BJP and Hindu activists told Hans India that all these will now come into light and there will be justice to the slain leader

Assam: 16 arrested for ‘illegal' cattle slaughter on Bakri Eid, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that 16 persons have been arrested in the state for allegedly slaughtering cattle illegally on the Muslim festival of Bakri Eid a day earlier. The festival, also known as Eid-al-Adha, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and entails the slaughtering of livestock. The consumption of beef is not illegal in the state. However, the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, which was passed in August 2021, prohibits cattle slaughter and the sale of beef and beef products in areas 'predominantly inhabited by Hindu, Jain, Sikh and other non-beef eating communities' or within five km of a temple or a sattra, a Vaishnavite monastery. It also places restrictions on cattle transportation. Sarma said on Friday that of the 16 arrests made, nine were from Cachar district and seven from Sribhumi. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader also claimed that cattle parts were found near Cotton University in Guwahati, and Dhubri, Hojai and Sribhumi districts. The chief minister said that five 'illegal slaughter sites' were found. Three of them were in Cachar district's Gumrah, Silchar and Lakhipur and two in the Karimganj district's Badarpur and Banga, he added. 'While our Constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, it equally upholds the rule of law and public order,' he said on X, adding that the state government was 'committed to preserving communal harmony, but not at the cost of lawlessness or cruelty'. 'Please be clear that strict action will be taken against all violators – irrespective of faith or background,' the BJP leader added. While our Constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, it equally upholds the rule of law and public order.
