NIA to Probe Murder of Hindu Leader Suhas Shetty in Dakshina Kannada

Hans India5 hours ago

Mangaluru: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has handed over the investigation into the recent murder of Hindu leader Suhas Shetty in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in what is being seen as a significant move to address growing concerns over religiously motivated violence in the coastal region.
Suhas Shetty was brutally attacked and killed on May 1in Mangaluru taluk near Kinnigoli, allegedly by a group of six men belonging to the Muslim community. The incident, which sent shockwaves across the communally sensitive coastal belt of Karnataka, had sparked calls for a deeper, more thorough investigation, with several leaders expressing fears of an organised conspiracy.
Taking early initiative, Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta was the first to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to transfer the case to the NIA, citing the possibility of radical networks operating behind the scenes. The BJP leader welcomed the Centre's decision and thanked the Home Minister for acting swiftly.
'This is not merely a local law and order issue. There could be a broader agenda at play, and only a central agency like the NIA has the resources and reach to investigate such matters thoroughly,' Capt. Chowta said in a statement.
The murder of Suhas Shetty is the latest in a series of violent incidents in the region, which has witnessed periodic outbreaks of communal tension over the past decade. The involvement of a central agency is expected to bring national attention to the pattern of targeted killings and help unearth deeper motives if any.
While local police had made multiple arrests in connection with the case, questions remained about the broader planning and possible ideological motivations. With the NIA stepping in, investigators will now examine whether there were any links to extremist groups or cross-border influences.
The agency is expected to officially take over the case in the coming days.
It could be recalled here that the NIA had also taken up the murder of Praveen Nettaru a top functionery of Youth wing of the BJP following which the case has reached a significant stage. Even in the case of Shetty murder, the BJP and the Hindu groups had accused that a certain mole in the Police department had allegedly checked the car of Suhas Shetty just minutes before the attack and made sure that his car was not carrying any weapons. Minutes after this check the attack was made and he was brutally killed. The BJP and Hindu activists told Hans India that all these will now come into light and there will be justice to the slain leader

Gehlot blames govt for power cuts, energy min says ‘no load shedding'

Jaipur: Former chief minister Sunday criticised the Bhajan Lal govt for frequent power cuts in the state. In a post on X, he said, "When the BJP govt in Rajasthan completed one year, they loudly proclaimed that Rajasthan was a surplus state in terms of electricity. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, as soon as the heat began to rise, power cuts started occurring everywhere, in both villages and cities." "Power cuts in a surplus state directly indicate govt mismanagement. The electricity distribution infrastructure in Rajasthan collapsed, causing distress to the common people," he added. Energy minister Heeralal Nagar dismissed Gehlot's claims as "misleading". Nagar stated that there was no load shedding across the state during this year's summer and power supply was only interrupted in a few areas for maintenance, and that too with prior notice. He credited the absence of power cuts to improved management and infrastructure upgrade carried out by the BJP govt. Highlighting achievements, Nagar said over 1,000 MW of solar power had been integrated into the state grid in the past 18 months, and projects worth more than 10,000 MW were in the pipeline. Rajasthan was set to receive 4,000 MW of battery storage support from the Union government, he said, adding that BJP govt completed 80 GSS projects.

Revanth Reddy releases Bandaru Dattatreya's autobiography, calls him ‘Ajata Shatruvu'

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday released the autobiography of Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, titled 'Prajala Kathe-Naa Atma Katha', at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad. The event witnessed the participation of several prominent leaders, including Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Naidu, former President Ramnath Kovind and former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu who heaped praise on Dattatreya's public life and legacy. Speaking at the book launch, the Chief Minister described Dattatreya as an 'Ajata Shatruvu', one who has no enemies, and likened him to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He said that the Haryana Governor stands as a role model for budding leaders, having risen from humble beginnings in Gowliguda, a small locality in Hyderabad, to occupy high constitutional office while maintaining close ties with the people. The Chief Minister made interesting comments on his political journey, describing it as 'Schooling in the BJP, college in the TDP, and now working with Rahul Gandhi'. 'I never hide my relationships,' Mr. Revanth Reddy said, adding that he had close ties with the families of both Mr. Dattatreya and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy.. He said, 'Leaders cutting across the political lines admire whether or not he holds power,' citing the annual 'Alai Balai' event hosted by Dattatreya. The Chief Minister also said that his government draws inspiration from leaders like P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR) and Dattatreya in making people-centric decisions. Naidu described Dattatreya as the embodiment of a true gentleman and lauded his commitment to secularism and public welfare despite working as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh pracharak, stating that his 'letters to the Chief Minister' reflect both purpose and principle. 'Dattatreya is fondly called as simply Dattanna. He is an Ajata Shatruvu,' Naidu added. Naidu also showered praises on Dattatreya. He said such leaders exemplify value-based public service. 'Those who violate democratic norms must be rejected through democratic means,' he said. Reddy, Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, former Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana, and Governors Jishnu Dev Varma (Telangana), S. Abdul Nazeer (Andhra Pradesh), Kambhampati Haribabu (Odisha) and N. Indrasena Reddy (Tripura) were among the dignitaries present. This autobiography chronicles Dattatreya's seven-decade journey, from helping his mother sell onions in Gowliguda to becoming an RSS pracharak, his involvement in relief work during the 1977 Diviseema cyclone, his arrest during the Emergency, and his tenure as a Union Minister and now as Governor.

‘BJP govt shielding those who uprooted ex-CM Jogi's statue'

Raipur: Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (J) state president Amit Jogi on Sunday strongly condemned the uprooting of the statue of former chief minister Ajit Jogi in Gaurela and accused the state govt of shielding the culprits. He warned of a major agitation if the statue is not reinstalled at Jyotipur Chowk, Gaurela, by June 25. Amit Jogi said that the act was carried out in collusion with local officials and said the culprits were later seen having tea with the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in-charge minister at a guest house, instead of being arrested. Addressing a press conference at his Raipur residence on Sunday, the former MLA Amit Jogi alleged that the statue of Ajit Jogi, which stood on private land owned by the Jogi family, was uprooted using a hydra machine in the intervening night of May 25 and 26, and dumped in garbage. It has been over two weeks, yet the statue hasnt been reinstated, nor have the accused been apprehended. Everyone sees them, except the police, Amit Jogi said, calling the incident a deliberate insult to Ajit Jogi and his legacy. He also mentioned that the statue was legally installed on land privately owned by the Jogi family and not on govt property. The land, he said, was part of a property acquired before 1932 by the late Menzies and later transferred through a valid Power of Attorney to Atul Arthur in 2020. In 2021, a No-Objection Certificate was issued by the landowners for the installation of a garden and Ajit Jogis statue. Funds for the statues platform and garden, amounting to Rs 3.5 lakh, were sanctioned from former MLA Dr Renu Jogis MLA fund, with Gaurela Municipality appointed as the construction agency. Amit Jogi rejected claims that the statue was removed to install one of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, saying the municipal resolution pertained to Tikar Bypass, not Jyotipur Chowk. We support installing both statues, but they must be placed at their rightful locations, he said. He further accused BJP leaders of engaging in statue politics and urged them to act ethically. "Ajit Jogi belongs to every Chhattisgarhi. Uprooting his statue is not only illegal and insensitive, but it also reflects a narrow, destructive mindset", he said. Jogi announced that if the statue is not reinstated at its original spot by June 25, it would be brought to chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai's residence in Raipur, demanding its formal unveiling. "The CM once promised to visit Gaurela for the unveiling. Since he didn't, we'll bring Jogi Ji to his doorstep," he added. He concluded by forgiving those involved in the act and said copies of a book authored by Ajit Jogi would be sent to them, urging them to read Jogi Ji and understand him. Dr Renu Jogi also condemned the act and appealed for swift justice and reinstallation of the statue.
