Steelers' Mike Tomlin gives injury updates on Joey Porter Jr., Cory Trice, Calvin Anderson

CB Cory Trice sustained a hamstring injury and OL Calvin Anderson had a lower body injury in tonight's practice, Tomlin says.Joey Porter Jr. is day-to-day with an unspecified ailment.
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has provided some injury updates following the Friday Night Lights practice in Latrobe.
Following the annual tradition at Latrobe Memorial Stadium, Tomlin addressed three Steelers dealing with injuries — CB Joey Porter Jr., CB Cory Trice, and OL Calvin Anderson.
According to the long-time Steelers head coach, Porter is dealing with an undisclosed injury but is day-to-day, Anderson's lower body is being evaluated after slipping, and Trice sustained a hamstring injury.
Porter didn't participate in practice and was spotted by spectators and reporters alike wearing sweats — while both Anderson and Trice were hurt at Friday Night Lights.
Anderson serves as the top backup offensive tackle, while Trice may need to compete for a roster spot in a loaded CB room — which makes the timing of his hamstring injury even more unfortunate.
We at Steelers Wire will keep you all updated on the condition of these three Steelers, which will likely be cleared up in the next couple of training camp practices — hopefully with a positive injury update.

2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs

National Football League 2025 NFL Odds: Public Backing Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Over 8.5; To Make Playoffs Published Aug. 6, 2025 3:16 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Aaron Rodgers hasn't taken one snap as a Steeler yet, but that hasn't stopped bettors from backing him and Pittsburgh to make some noise during the season and into the playoffs. At BetMGM, the Steelers' 8.5 is the second-most-bet Over regular-season win total. They're behind the Seahawks, whose win total is 8.5 as well. Also at the book, bettors like the Black and Yellow to earn a postseason bid. In that market, Steelers +140 to make the playoffs is second in tickets and third in handle. Could bettors' faith in Pittsburgh be because Mike Tomlin has never had a losing season as head coach or because Rodgers — the four-time MVP — is under center? Let's take a glance at a few more Steelers odds at BetMGM as of Aug. 6. Can Aaron Rodgers help the Steelers eclipse their win total in 2025? Super Bowl +4000 (bet $10 to win $410 total) AFC Championship +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total) AFC No. 1 Seed +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total) AFC Super Bowl Winning Conference -115 (bet $10 to win $18.70 total) AFC North Division Winner +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total) AFC North Second Place +290 (bet $10 to win $39 total) Rodgers comes into his Steelers tenure after two years playing for the Jets. In his debut with New York, he tore his left Achilles tendon just four snaps into the first game of the season. Year 1 with Gang Green was over before it ever really began. In Year 2, he passed for 28 touchdowns and 3,897 yards, but the Jets missed the playoffs, finishing with a 5-12 record. Then, in February, the Jets announced they were moving on from the 10-time Pro Bowler, and in June, the Steelers announced they were signing him to a one-year deal. Will the Tomlin-Rodgers tandem spell success for the Steelers, ultimately helping bettors who've backed them to cash in? Well, according to FOX Sports NFL writer Henry McKenna, that answer is complicated. Geoff Schwartz on Rodgers-Steelers, Chiefs' AFC West title odds, Chargers, Caleb Williams ADVERTISEMENT "The Steelers have plenty of talent. Coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers, DK Metcalf, T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward, Darius Slay and Alex Highsmith could take this team to a championship. Technically," McKenna wrote. He continued: "Rodgers is a destabilizing force set to meet his match in Tomlin, one of the NFL's steadiest leaders. But chaos wins every time. Check out Murphy's Law. "It's possible to imagine Rodgers overwhelming Tomlin. And maybe everything falls apart in Pittsburgh, leading to a total cleaning of house. That's the wild thing about Rodgers. There might be no player with greater risk. And at his age, the rewards are less obvious." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Steelers defender reveals season-ending injury on social media

The injury news in Pittsburgh keeps coming — and you can't help but feel for Steelers DT Dean Lowry, who took to social media to reveal his season-ending ACL injury. While Lowry was placed on the Reserve/Injured List a few days prior, it was his message on Instagram that caught fans' attention — one of understanding that there are risks required when playing football. "During a training camp practice last week I sustained an ACL injury that will likely end my season," Lowry wrote on Instagram. "Hard to comprehend the thoughts and emotions I have felt since then. Heartbroken I won't get to fully experience the highs and lows of an NFL season with a group I love going to work with. The risks associated with this game and the unique aspect of a football team are what make this sport like no other. I'm completely resolved to turn this negative into a positive with gratitude each step of the way." The nine-year veteran signed with the Steelers back in April 2024 on a two-year deal — providing Pittsburgh with capable, experienced depth on the defensive line. While Lowry tries to find the positives, we at Steelers Wire hope he can bounce back in a major way when recovered next season — potentially earning his way back onto the Steel City roster. His team will include color commentator JJ Watt and sideline reporter Evan Washburn. This same crew will broadcast the Steelers Week Three road tilt against the New England Patriots. This week, the Steelers kick off the preseason schedule with a road game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
