Incredible sight as snow covers Aussie towns
Parts of the state's Northern Tablelands recorded heavy snowfalls of up to 40cm at the weekend, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
BOM meteorologist Helen Reid said the snow was generated by 'a pool of cold air' that moved in over the towns of Guyra, Armidale, Uralla and Walcha.

'In Queensland, snow flurries were observed across parts of the Darling Downs … these amounted to very little on the ground.'
Uralla's Bolt Inn, a popular local pub, became a shelter for those seeking refuge from the icy conditions on Sunday.

'We're sheltering people on floors and chairs throughout the pub, and with many road closures we are staying safe inside.'
Others were more keen to get out and make the most of the snow, with footage posted by a Guyra local showing a person skiing on the 'slopes' of the town's golf course.

NSW SES responded after treacherous conditions left drivers stranded on snow-covered roads
NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Nicole Hogan said emergency services in the New England area were responding to treacherous traffic conditions caused by 'black ice', a term used to describe the formation of slippery, transparent ice over roads.
'We have road crash crews propositioned and ready to respond to any rescues, but we ask the community to please avoid unnecessary travel,' she said.
'If you do need to be on the roads in areas with snow, drive with caution, always use your brakes gently and drive slowly.'
The NSW SES reported more than 100 vehicles got stuck on the New England Highway as heavy snow made driving on almost impossible.
More than 6000 homes across Walcha, Guyra, Uralla and Armidale remain cut off from the power grid according to Essential Energy.
This is down from the peak of 11,000 reported on Sunday morning.

'There is a large amount of reconstruction work required in some areas to rebuild areas of the network that have been damaged during the storms over the weekend,' they said.
'That includes the replacement of power poles.
'Helicopters and additional crews are ready to come in to support as soon as it's safe to do so.'
The company also urged residents to stay away from downed power lines.
Mobile phone outages have also been widely reported across the area, some of which are expected to last until late on Tuesday.
In a message on their live outage tracker, Telstra said the severe weather' had caused widespread outages across the state's north.
'We're working to get everything back online ASAP. Thanks for your patience,' it read.

Often dubbed one of the most isolated major cities, flights out of Perth can come with a more exxy price tag compared to other capitals across the nation. Ally said this proves to be a tricky financial hurdle for people wanting to see what the rest of what Down Under has to offer. 'Travel costs a bomb: Flights out of Perth are expensive and limited,' she said in an Instagram post. 'Even flying within Australia can cost as much as international trips.' In recent years, food prices across the globe have increased in the wake of inflation and Ally thinks the cost of groceries and dining out is particularly steep in Perth. 'Everything feels just a little overpriced,' she said. 'Dining out is expensive (think $25–$35 mains, $6 coffees), and groceries cost more than in many global cities.' Ally said she has found people in Perth to be typically insular, making it a struggle for her to makes friends as a foreigner 'People are friendly on the surface but often stick to their own groups,' she said. Ally said it's not just the heat's intense temperatures that are unappealing, but the power outages and bushfires that the season causes. 'Summers can be brutal, especially inland,' she said. '40°C+ days are common. Bushfires and power outage are part of life.' One on occasion in December last year, more than 15,000 homes were without power, leaving residents across Perth sweltering though temperatures above 40C without fans or aircon. Perth's quiet and laid back lifestyle is part of the charm for some, but for Ally it can lack atmosphere. 'The CBD is small and empties out after 5pm. If you're used to a vibrant city life, Perth can feel dead,' she said. There's not a constant buzz, and if you thrive on stimulation, you might itch to get out. 'You have to do some digging for events happening.' The mining State is undoubtedly one of the best places to be for people looking for FIFO work. But Ally thinks there are not many jobs on offer for workers outside of the mining, health and trade industries. 'Perth can feel limiting professionally unless you're in specific industries,' she said. They look at work experience more than your education. Even those with work experiences, they still have to start from the bottom.' In Ally's experience, graffiti offences aren't taken seriously enough and she worries about leaving her car parked outside. 'You can only report a vandalism if it's a racial slur. Vandalism is vandalism, destroying other's property is a crime no matter what you write on it,' she said. 'Don't be surprise if anything happens to your car parked outside. Anything can happen.'

Want to live like a rock star? Daniel Johns lists retro beachside shack on Airbnb

And now, the 1960s beach shack ex-Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns, 46, has owned since the mid-1990s, is available to rent on Airbnb. A stay at the two-bedroom, two-bathroom house, which overlooks Merewether Beach, is priced at $450 a night, according to the website. Johns bought the modest property in 1996, shortly after his 17th birthday. For decades, the property remained untouched until a recent makeover of the exterior suggested Johns had big plans for the mid-century gem. Behind the pink and blue colour explosion on the home's facade, the Airbnb listing reveals a striking renovation inside with bold interiors and artistic flair. The listing reads: "Welcome to the Merewether Beach Shack! Built in the 60s, this love shack has been transformed into a rustic, colourful beachside haven. "With all of its old character from the past, it has been styled with unique art and lush velvet couches you can sink into and watch the sunset. NSW lashed by rain and snow in bout of wild weather
Heavy rain is set to hammer New South Wales this weekend as snow blanketed regions not usually known for icy conditions. A low pressure system brought heavy rain to a large swathe of the state and led the Bureau of Meteorology to issue a string of warnings about potentially dangerous weather. There was heavy rainfall across the Hunter Region and Mid North Coast on Saturday. 'It has been a cold and wet week across New South Wales, with showers and rain pushing onto the east coast in particular,' BOM meteorologist Helen Reid said. 'The rain and the wind is expected to peak (on Saturday) with the Mid North Coast, the Upper Hunter and parts of the Northern Tablelands likely to get the heaviest falls.' Picture: Sky News A severe weather warning is in place for parts of the Upper Hunter, Mid North Coast, Northern Tablelands and the North West slopes and plains for heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging wind gusts in excess of 90 kilometres an hour. The bureau has also issued a flood watch from Coffs Harbour to Newcastle, stretching inland, warning of possible minor to moderate flooding. Many catchments in those areas are still wet due to heavy rain in the last few months. There is also a flood warning in place for the Peel River at Tamworth. 'Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed in the catchment of the Peel River during Saturday,' the bureau's warning said. 'River level rises are occurring along the upper reaches of the Peel River and its tributaries, with levels at Tamworth currently near the minor flood level (3.0 metres). 'The Peel River at Tamworth is expected to exceed the moderate flood level late Saturday evening, with further rises likely overnight due to forecast rainfall.' The heavy rainfall also caused public transport chaos in the Hunter. On Saturday, trains were not running on the Hunter Line between Scone, Dungog and Newcastle due to flooding at Sandgate. Meanwhile, parts of NSW were blanketed by snow on Saturday. Including some regions which the SES said it was unusual to see snow. Up to 50mm fell in some areas in the Northern Tablelands region. The SES reported heavy falls in Walcha, Uralla, Ebor, Armidale, Guyra, Glen Innes and Moonbi Ranges. It responded to over 100 reports of cars being stuck on the New England Highway, Waterfall Way, Norris Drive and Grafton Road. The severe weather is expected to ease from Sunday. A separate cold front is also forecast in Western Australia bringing rain, thunderstorms and hail. A severe weather warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall is in place for areas around Perth, Bunbury and Albany. Darwin is set to be warm and sunny reaching 31C, while Brisbane is expecting showers and sunny spells, reaching 19C. Canberra will be cool with a top of 13C with patchy drizzle.
