Lenovo's flagship gaming laptop has a 2D / 3D screen and carbon fiber lid
Lenovo is announcing a new 10th-generation Legion 9i gaming laptop coming soon to China and scheduled for the fall in North America. The 18-inch behemoth is packed with top-end specs, including the option for a 4K-capable 2D / 3D screen, Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, up to 192GB of RAM, and 8TB of SSD storage.
How much will an over-the-top configuration like that cost? Nobody can say, as Lenovo isn't talking pricing at all yet — not even the starting price for the base model with a 4K, non-3D screen. But when the time comes you won't have to rely solely on Lenovo to build the configuration to your liking, as the four RAM slots and four SSD slots are user-accessible.
The optional 2D / 3D LCD can display 3840 x 2400 resolution at up to 240Hz in 2D mode or 1920 x 1200 in 3D mode. The screen also has a dual mode akin to the Razer Blade 18, allowing up to an ultra-fast 440Hz when displaying 2D content in 1920 x 1080. Viewing 3D content on the Legion 9i's screen doesn't require glasses, as it uses eye-tracking and a lenticular lens array to appear 3D to the naked eye. Lenovo says the Legion 9i is designed for game developers, visual artists, and 3D professionals as well as spendy gamers. In addition to displaying 3D content and renders, Lenovo says its software supports 30 games playable in 3D. We have reached out to Lenovo for a list of compatible games, but did not receive an answer by time of publication.
As you'd expect from a desktop replacement-class laptop, the Legion 9i has a bunch of ports, including two Thunderbolt 5 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 (three Type-A and one Type-C), an ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, and even a full-size SD card slot. For connectivity, it's got Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support. If you go for the 2D screen the 5-megapixel webcam has an f/2 aperture, though the 3D screen option comes with a faster f/1.6 lens — and both webcams feature a kill switch on the side of the laptop for privacy.
The laptop itself has a pretty unique look thanks to its carbon fiber lid. Lenovo says each Legion 9i's lid is made from eight layers of carbon fiber, making it 'lighter and stronger than aluminum.' But any weight savings aside, the coolest aspect of this carbon fiber creation is the visible pattern on the lid — which Lenovo says is slightly different and one-of-a-kind on each unit.
We may not know how much the Legion 9i costs just yet, but that lid instantly makes it one of the most interesting jumbo-sized gaming laptops in my book. At least, as far as ones not adorned with dragons go.

After its data was wiped, KiranaPro's co-founder cannot rule out an external hack
Indian grocery delivery startup KiranaPro's recent data loss story has more holes than Swiss cheese, as the startup remains unclear whether the incident was an internal breach or an external hack. Last week, the Bengaluru-based startup discovered that it could not access its back-end servers and that all its data, including its app code, had been deleted from GitHub. The startup on Friday blamed a former employee for the breach. However, in an interview, KiranaPro co-founder and CEO Deepak Ravindran conceded that the company had not deactivated the employee's account after they departed the company and cannot rule out the possibility of subsequent malicious misuse of their account. 'If we go deeper, we have to do a real forensic investigation. We are going to talk [about] this with our board, the investors, and we are going to get a formal opinion on that also with our legal advisers,' Ravindran told TechCrunch. Earlier on Friday, Ravindran claimed in a post on X that the incident that affected its data was an internal breach. 'After careful investigation, we conclude that this was not a hack. No external party penetrated our ordering or payment systems, exploited vulnerabilities, or bypassed security protocols,' he wrote. The co-founder also explicitly shared a screenshot of a LinkedIn profile of one of KiranaPro's former employees on X on Thursday, alleging that they had deleted the startup's code. (TechCrunch is not sharing the post's link, as the startup has yet to offer concrete proof supporting its position.) '[T]his was an internal data breach. Specifically, it was the result of actions taken by a trusted internal employee who had legitimate access to our systems,' the co-founder wrote in his post on Friday. 'This individual intentionally deleted critical server logs while they were being tested and/or edited, an action that goes directly against our policies, our principles, and the trust we place in our team.' When TechCrunch asked if KiranaPro could rule out whether any third party had maliciously gained access to the former employee's account, Ravindran could not. 'We have to do a complete forensic check on the company. We have to do the entire IP scan. We have to look at where the tracks happened. We have to check the computers, MacBooks, and whatever is used. Everything has to be done. Then we have to spend money … so, that's why we decided not to,' he told TechCrunch. Then what was the basis of Ravindran's allegation? It was a GitHub response, a copy of which he shared with TechCrunch. The response included a username, which Ravindran said was associated with the former employee. 'All we have is the emails that we got from GitHub, stating that [the former employee's username] as an individual is the one who deleted the account. We haven't done the investigation further,' Ravindran told TechCrunch. Former employee's account was never offboarded Launched in late 2024, KiranaPro operates as a buyer app on the Indian government's Open Network for Digital Commerce. The startup allows more than 55,000 customers in 50 cities to purchase groceries from their local shops and nearby supermarkets using its voice-based interface. The company also supports local language inputs, including English, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil. Ravindran stated that they decided to call out the former employee based on the company's 'belief system,' as they claim the former employee deleted the data after their sudden termination. However, the startup said it is not aware if there were enough protections on the former employee's devices, such as multi-factor authentication, to restrict malicious third-party access, like malware. The company confirmed it did not remove the employee's access to its data and GitHub account following his departure. 'Employee offboarding was not being handled properly because there was no full-time HR,' KiranaPro's chief technology officer, Saurav Kumar, confirmed to TechCrunch. Company restores AWS account and GitHub data Alongside its code saved in GitHub, KiranaPro also lost access to its Amazon Web Services (AWS) account, which included its customer data and their transaction details. Ravindran told TechCrunch that the GitHub data was restored after getting its backup from one of their employees. The startup also regained access to its AWS account along with its customer data. Both the co-founder and CTO said the AWS account was protected by multi-factor authentication, but neither could say how the account was accessed, as nobody else had physical access to Ravindran's phone, which generates the multi-factor code. Nonetheless, Ravindran claimed that the customer data stored in the AWS cloud remained intact and was not accessed by any third parties, nor was it downloaded by the former employee in question. 'Because if that is the case, I will get its notification on email or anything [sic],' he said. That said, Ravindran stated that the startup has enough evidence to file a formal complaint with the police, but said that its investigation is ongoing. The startup has also not fully paid its current employees, the company's co-founder confirmed, soon after the company raised a seed round of ₹100 million Indian rupees (about $1.2 million), which Ravindran said has yet to be fully wired. The startup counts Blume Ventures, Unpopular Ventures, and Turbostart among its institutional venture backers, as well as Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and Boston Consulting Group managing director Vikas Taneja among its angel investors. It has 15 employees located in Bengaluru and Kerala.

Tesla's China-Made EV Sales Drop Y/Y in May: Is Price War a Suspect?
Tesla's TSLA sales of China-made EVs continued to decline for the eighth consecutive month in May due to intensifying price wars in the world's largest auto market. Per the China Passenger Car Association data, combined domestic and export deliveries to Europe and other markets of the Model 3 and Model Y dropped 15% year over year in May to 61,662 units, following a drop of 6% in April. Tesla's EV sales slump persisted across much of Europe last month, primarily due to its aging lineup and the negative impact of CEO Elon Musk's political involvement on consumer boost demand in China, its largest market in the first quarter, Tesla allowed smart-assisted driving features to be transferred to new vehicles in China starting in late May and continuing through the end of June. Additionally, the Model 3 and Model Y were included in a government initiative promoting EV adoption in rural areas for the first time this year. BYD's global passenger car sales rose 14.1% year over year in May, but the growth slowed from April's 19.4%.Geely Auto, an auto manufacturer based in Hangzhou, China, also reduced prices, offering discounts between 9,000 yuan and 16,000 yuan on selected models, such as the Xingyuan EV and entry-level Galaxy E8 sedan. Through these limited-time promotions, which ended June 1, Geely Auto aimed to stimulate sales, reduce inventory and benefit from government incentives intended to support EV transitions. How Trump and Musk's relationship has unfolded over the years — from feud to alliance, and back again
The alliance between President Trump and Elon Musk went up in flames Thursday, days after the world's richest man left the administration and tried to wield his influence to kill a massive budget bill that is central to enacting the president's top legislative priorities. Their spat played out in public and marked another remarkable turn for Musk, who spent tens of millions on Mr. Trump's reelection campaign and was given the reins to slash the size of the federal government. Here's a look back at how Mr. Trump and Musk got here: Trump "not the right guy," Musk says in 2016 The Tesla CEO praised Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's economic and environmental policies as "the right ones" in an interview with CNBC before the 2016 election. "I feel a bit stronger that he is not the right guy," Musk said of Mr. Trump at the time. "He doesn't seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States." "I don't think this is the finest moment in our democracy," Musk added. Musk joins — and quits — Trump administration roles Shortly after Mr. Trump's first term began, Musk joined a handful of White House advisory boards, including Mr. Trump's "manufacturing jobs council." But Musk left those roles just months later, citing Mr. Trump's withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords. "Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world," Musk tweeted in June 2017. Musk continued to have a close relationship with the federal government, however, as his rocket company SpaceX has billions in contracts with NASA and other agencies. Mr. Trump praised Musk at a 2020 SpaceX launch in Florida, saying at one point: "I speak to him all the time. Great guy. He's one of our great brains. We like great brains. Evan Vucci / AP Musk sours on Democrats in 2022 — but still feuds with Trump In May 2022, Musk said he was ending his support for Democrats because "they have become the party of division & hate." "So I can no longer support them and will vote Republican," Musk tweeted, later adding that he voted for Clinton in 2016 and former President Joe Biden in 2020. But just two months later, Musk suggested he didn't support Mr. Trump launching another run for the White House amid a public spat with the then-former president over the course of several days in July 2022. Mr. Trump called the Tesla CEO a "b---s--- artist" at a rally and said his companies would be "worthless" without federal backing, while Musk tweeted Mr. Trump should "hang up his hat & sail into the sunset." Later in 2022, Musk purchased Twitter, now known as X, and quickly reinstated Mr. Trump's account, which had been suspended since the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. The reinstatement came four days after Mr. Trump announced his third run for the presidency after losing to Biden. In the Republican presidential primary, Musk initially threw his support behind one of Mr. Trump's rivals, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. In May 2023, the billionaire and the Floridian appeared together on a glitchy Twitter livestream to launch DeSantis' campaign. Musk endorses Trump in 2024, wields influence The tech billionaire formally endorsed Mr. Trump on July 13, 2024, moments after Mr. Trump survived an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," Musk wrote alongside video of the bloodied presidential candidate raising his fist in the air as he was surrounded by Secret Service agents. Musk joined Mr. Trump on the campaign trail and spent roughly $277 million to help elect him and other Republican candidates, mostly through a Musk-backed super PAC called America PAC, campaign finance records show. Mr. Trump shouted Musk out during his election night victory speech: "A star is born," Mr. Trump said. "He's an amazing guy." Before Mr. Trump was inaugurated for a second term, Musk used his political influence in December 2024 to whip up outrage against a bipartisan spending bill and torpedo it days before a potential government shutdown. Evan Vucci / AP Musk joins Trump administration, spearheading DOGE Mr. Trump appointed Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which was tasked with cutting federal government spending, but fell far short of Musk's $1 trillion goal. Musk quickly became a member of Mr. Trump's inner circle, participating in Cabinet meetings and traveling on Air Force One with his young son. Less than a month into his government service, Musk professed on X: "I love @realDonaldTrump as much as a straight man can love another man." DOGE quickly gained vast influence within the Trump administration, slashing government staff and nearly dismantling some federal agencies. Musk and Mr. Trump appeared together in the Oval Office in February — with Musk's son in tow — and jointly answered questions from the press. In late February, a DOGE-backed email telling federal employees to report what they had accomplished in the preceding week sparked confusion in some agencies. During a Cabinet meeting days later, Mr. Trump called Musk "tremendously successful" and said people were "thrilled" with his performance — and said federal workers who haven't responded to the emails are "on the bubble." When Tesla faced protests from Trump opponents, the president boosted Musk, climbing into a Tesla on the White House South Lawn in March and calling the car "beautiful." Days prior, Mr. Trump said on Truth Social he would "buy a brand new Tesla" as a show of support for Musk, who the president said was "doing a FANTASTIC JOB." Musk called Navarro "dumber than a sack of bricks" after Navarro said Tesla relies on "cheap foreign parts." Mr. Trump's White House didn't take sides: "Boys will be boys," press secretary Karoline Leavitt said. In a late April Cabinet meeting, Mr. Trump praised and thanked Musk — but suggested his time in government would end soon. "You're invited to stay as long as you want. At some point, he wants to get back home to his cars," Mr. Trump said, as he and his Cabinet led a round of applause for the billionaire. At some point, he wants to get back home to his cars." — CSPAN (@cspan) April 30, 2025 Musk leaves administration and ramps up criticism Days before wrapping up his work for the federal government, Musk began criticizing a massive piece of legislation aimed at advancing Mr. Trump's second-term agenda. Musk told "CBS News Sunday Morning" he was "disappointed" in the price tag of the package, which would extend Mr. Trump's signature 2017 tax cuts, boost border security spending, impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients and roll back clean energy tax credits. Musk left his position in the administration on May 30 after reaching the maximum number of days he could serve as a special government employee. Musk, who had a black eye, stood next to Mr. Trump in the Oval Office as the president praised the billionaire's government work and called him "one of the greatest business leaders and innovators the world has ever produced." "Elon's really not leaving. He's going to be back and forth, I think, I have a feeling," Mr. Trump said. Musk said he would continue to serve as a "friend and adviser" to the president. Evan Vucci / AP Musk-Trump spat bursts wide open In the following days, Musk escalated his criticism of the legislation Mr. Trump has dubbed a "big, beautiful bill," calling it a "disgusting abomination" in a lengthy early June tirade on his social media platform. The insults continued through the week, reaching a climax on June 5 with Mr. Trump threatening to cancel Musk's lucrative government contracts and Musk claiming that Mr. Trump could not have won the presidency without him. Musk said he would shut down a SpaceX program that NASA relies on to transport astronauts — before later backtracking — and seemed to endorse an X post calling for Mr. Trump to be impeached. Musk also warned Republican lawmakers: "Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years." During the back-and-forth, Mr. Trump claimed that he asked Musk to leave his administration and upset him with a provision in the budget bill that would end tax credits for electric vehicles. "Elon was 'wearing thin,' I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!" the president wrote. Musk then alleged that Mr. Trump's name appeared in the files related to the case of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier who died by suicide in federal custody in 2019 while facing charges of sex trafficking. "@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public," Musk wrote. "Have a nice day, DJT!"
