Longhorns baseball adds to their 2026 class with talented shortstop
As Longhorns baseball looks to build on its recent success, recruiting is key. On Tuesday, they had a reason to celebrate when Lawson Behan announced that he was committing to Texas. The talented shortstop is the latest infielder to join what is becoming an exciting 2026 class for Texas.
In Behan, the Longhorns are adding a player who can hit for power and use all fields. His power should continue to grow as he develops, which is good news for the Longhorns. While he has shown encouraging signs at the plate, Behan's calling card has been his defense.
During his high school career, the Texas native has seen time at shortstop and third base. Regardless of the position, he has shown good range to both sides and can make all throws. The Lamar High School product has the potential to be a high-level defender in the middle of the field once he reaches the college level.
Over the last few months, Behan has been a popular prospect due to his junior season. He posted a .444 batting average and added three 32 hits to his resume. The newest Longhorn also showed great plate discipline, drawing 30 walks while only striking out seven times. Those are numbers that should fit in nicely with the other Longhorns hitters.
With room to grow, excitement is building for what Behan will accomplish once he gets to the Forty Acres. The Longhorns have been a force in the SEC and are showing no signs of slowing down. That is due to the talent they have been able to bring in through the transfer portal and recruiting.
While fans will have to wait to see his debut, the future for Texas baseball got brighter when Behan's commitment became official.

Why Arch Manning shouldn't be on the Manning Award watch list

View more Video Transcript Kind of an interesting college football news and nugget here. Arch Manning has been amusingly left off of the Manning Award watch list. Now, for those of you guys that may be paying attention, the Manning Award is given to the best quarterback in college football every year, and Arch happens to have that same last name. So I think we just presumed, also considering the fact that he's basically already been anointed by everybody as the next savior of college football on the #1 team in all the land. Just presumed you'd see his name on the Manning Award preseason watch lists. Here's the catch though. He's only started 2 games and thrown less than 100 passes at the college football level. So they don't put him on the watch list because he hasn't played enough college football to. Be on the watch list. Let me say that again for everybody that's blowing Texas up as the number one team in the land. He's not on the watch list because he hasn't played enough college football to warrant being on the watch list. This is my whole problem with the way we're just presuming everything's gonna be perfect with Arch and everything's gonna be perfect with Texas this season. Let me be clear. I would love for Arch to go out and have a historic year. I would love for Texas to get back and it'd be a great story if Texas won the Nattie. Frankly, I don't have a rooting interest if they want to win it. That's great with me. And Manning winning the Manning Award would be remarkable. This is just yet another subtle reminder to all of us from the outside looking in that simply having the last name Manning and playing quarterback for Texas doesn't. Automatically anoint you. You actually, I don't know, have to do a little of it on the field. Maybe he will, time will tell, but for at least right now, rightfully so, he can't be on the watch list because again, he hasn't done anything yet to deserve it. I just am trying to temper expectations, just a little bit, Caroline, just, just the smallest temper of expectations for Arch Manning. We'll see. I still think Manny winning the Manning Award would be delightful though. It would be, and look, if he deserves it, he deserves it. It's not like he should be disqualified from winning the award just because his last name is Manning, but I always think these preseason watch lists are like 2 a.m. Wake-up texts They don't mean anything. Don't look too far into it. Just because you're not on the list in August doesn't mean that you are disqualified from potentially winning the award. Close
