Rs 8,000-cr plan in works to clean Yamuna, fix drainage: Delhi CM Gupta
'The Delhi government is implementing a multi-pronged and phased plan for Yamuna rejuvenation, which includes drain treatment, sewerage network expansion and setting up of modern Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs),' the chief minister said in a statement.
Gupta held a meeting with Water Minister Parvesh Verma and top Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials to review the work underway to fix the drainage and sewer system in the city.
New Delhi, Jun 20 (PTI) The Delhi government is currently working on more than 300 projects, allocated an outlay of Rs 8,000 crore, to clean Yamuna River and solve the city's sewage woes, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday.
In the meeting, according to the statement, she reviewed a 45-point action plan, which included capacity enhancement and upgradation work at existing STPs located in Yamuna Vihar, Okhla, Keshopur, Vasant Kunj, Ghitorni, Mehrauli, and Molarbandh under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme and one each in Nilothi and Pappan Kalan.
Gupta directed officials to replace old pipelines in phases.
'Many parts of Delhi are still operating on decades-old water and sewer pipelines, which are no longer sustainable due to rapid urban growth and increasing demand. Officials have been instructed to undertake phase-wise planning and use modern technology to replace old infrastructure,' she said.
According to officials, the 303 drainage projects involve redevelopment of major drains, permanent solutions for waterlogging, installation of modern pumps, de-silting of drains, expansion of stormwater systems, and scientific drainage network management.
Gupta said she will personally visit the Yamuna every month to check the progress in its cleaning.
She also claimed that Delhi will soon become a 'model' city in terms of equitable water distribution under the Centre's Har Ghar Nal Se Jal initiative.
Verma stated that strict directions have been issued for immediate action against the illegal discharge of untreated sewage and industrial waste in the city.
'This is a crisis that can no longer be ignored. Delhi cannot afford to let untreated sewage flow into its lifelines. No polluter will be spared. We will act and act fast,' he said. PTI SSM VN VN

The Boudh-Bhubaneswar New-Boudh Weekly Express will leave from Boudh at 7 am every Monday and reach Bhubaneswar New at 6.15 pm via Balangir-Sambalpur-Angul-Naraj. In the return direction, this train will leave from Bhubaneswar New at 11 pm on Mondays and reach Boudh at 10.30 am on Tuesdays. Similarly, the Sambalpur-Boudh-Sambalpur Weekly Express from Sambalpur will leave at 7.25 pm on Sundays and arrive at Boudh at 11.55 pm on the same day. Election Commission allows post-result mock polls to check EVM integrity
Representative Image NEW DELHI: Election Commission has revised its standard operating procedures (SOPs) for post-result checking of burnt memory or microcontroller of EVM (EVM C&V), allowing the candidates who finished second or third, to also opt for a mock poll on the selected EVM units, in addition to the simple diagnostic check already offered. As per the earlier SOPs issued on June 1, 2024, EVMs could be subjected to C&V as a set, that is, a combination of ballot unit, control unit and VVPAT, as used in an actual election. A diagnostic check would be performed under the supervision of the district in-charge engineer of the manufacturer, Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) or Electronics Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) and the district election officer. There was no provision for a mock poll. The new administrative SOPs, issued on June 17, 2025, have also split the charges to be paid by the candidates applying for EVM checks, into two slabs. While plain EVM C&V charge is now fixed at Rs 23,600, inclusive of 18% GST, C&V check with mock poll will cost the applicant candidates Rs 47,200 (GST included). These charges shall be payable to the EVM manufacturer. The new SOPs have also cut the period for the chief electoral officer to send the consolidated list of EVM C&V applications received, to the EVM manufacturers, to 15 days from the date of declaration of result, against 30 days earlier. Meanwhile, in another important decision, EC, concerned at the possible misuse of still and video records maintained by it for each stage of the election process, has fixed the period of retention of such records to 45 days, provided no election petition is filed. Time limits ranging from six months to a year were previously laid down for retention of photos and videography from different stages of elections - pre-nomination, nomination, EVM preparation, polling, counting and declaration of result - even though not mandatory under the law. "The instructions to destroy records after 45 days is prospective," an EC official told TOI, hinting that they may kick in only with the upcoming Bihar assembly poll. "The retention period is in sync with the 45-day time-bar for filing election petitions. When an election petition is filed, the relevant records will not be destroyed till after the petition is disposed of finally," added the officer. Minority quota hike only after fresh housing targets by govt
Bengaluru: The govt's decision to hike minority reservation in housing from 10% to 15% is likely to be implemented only once chief minister Siddaramaiah allocates "targets" for the housing department and is unlikely to impact the current situation. Housing and minority welfare minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan defended the govt's move and reiterated that the cabinet decision was based on central govt directives. "The state has no role to play in this quota hike," Khan said. "The central govt directed us to implement the 2006 Sachar Committee report which recommended a 15% housing quota for minorities. The chief secretary received written communication from the Centre in 2019, followed by directions from the National Minority Commission in 2021 when BJP was at the helm." Khan said the hike in quota can only be implemented when fresh targets are fixed for the housing department. "At present, Siddaramaiah has given us the green signal to complete ongoing work pending from 2013," he said. "The fresh quota is only prospective." Housing department officials say the 15% quota will not be "added" but will be "offset" from one district to another.
