Prithvi Shaw said that the encouraging words from Sachin Tendulkar meant a lot to him as the young Indian batter looks to make a comeback to the Indian cricket team. read more
Prithvi Shaw has faced a tough time both personally and professionally in recent years. While his reputation has taken a hit amid reports suggesting the 25-year-old is more interested in partying than playing cricket, the young batter revealed that, despite everything, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar still firmly believes in his talent and potential.
Shaw's cricketing career has been on a downward spiral since 2021, the last time he played for the Indian team. He went unsold in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction and was also dropped from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad.

Lack of discipline, weight issues, poor fitness, lack of training and partying have been given as reasons for Shaw's downfall after a meteoric rise, which often led to experts comparing him to the great Tendulkar.
Shaw: Sachin said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you'
In an interview with News24, Mumbai cricketer Shaw revealed that he had a meeting with Sachin recently in which the batting legend told him to get 'back on track' as soon as there are still many years of cricket left in him.
'Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We've played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too,' Shaw told News24.
'Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you. He still believes in me. He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up. Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot.'
Shwa also revealed that he has started training just like five years ago when he used to spend eight hours a day in the practice nets and should be back to his best soon.

Ex-India Star Echoes Ravi Shastri's Virat Kohli Comment: "Missing Passion And Intensity"

Indian cricket team, under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill, suffered a disappointing five-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the first Test in Leeds. The match, which seemed to be heading towards a draw, was turned on its head due to a poor batting effort from India's lower order. In the chase of 371 runs in the fourth innings, England reached home in the final session of the match. They did it quite comfortably as the Indian bowlers struggled for wickets. Former India player Ravi Shastri said that Virat Kohli was missed during the game. As England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley batted through the first session on Day 5 to take England to 117 for 0, Shastri said, "India need someone to do a Kohli. Should be someone designated. Kohli could do it for 3 people. Get in the face." Another ex-India star, Madal Lal, too echoed Shastri's comment. "We were missing the passion and intensity Virat Kohli brought to the game. Ravi Shastri was right," wrote Madan Lal on X after India's loss to England. We were missing the passion and intensity Virat Kohli brought to the game. Ravi Shastri was right. — Madan Lal (@MadanLal1983) June 24, 2025 Notably, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are not a part of India's ongoing five-match Test series against England as the two retired from the format in May this year. Shubman Gill has been appointed the Test captain of India, while Rishabh Pant is his deputy. Talking about the game, India's lower-order batting failed miserably as the side ended up losing the game by 5 wickets. During the first three days, only a draw or an Indian victory seemed possible but poor batting display saw India playing it on the hands of England. Ben Duckett scored 149 runs as the Three Lions chased down the target of 371 runs easily on the flat track in Leeds. Rishabh Pant scored centuries across both the innings, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Gill too hit a ton each. Jasprit Bumrah, with a five-wicket haul, was another player who shone for the visitors during the game.

"Cannot Win A Game With One Bowler": Ex-India Star's Unfiltered Take After Loss To England

Former India cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal shared his thoughts on India's five-wicket defeat to England in the first Test at Headingley and said while the contest was entertaining, the Indian team missed crucial chances in the field. "Test match at its best, I really enjoyed watching this Test match," Lal told ANI. "We played very good cricket apart from the fielding lapses. That's where we lost the game. You see five hundreds, English players getting two hundreds, and the match going to the last day, that's what matters in Test cricket," he said. Despite India's strong batting display, which featured five individual centuries, their inability to hold on to catches and maintain bowling pressure proved costly in the final innings, where England successfully chased 371. Lal was particularly critical of India's bowling strategy and felt that the team lacked depth in their attack beyond Jasprit Bumrah. "I think our bowlers should have bowled better," he said. "You cannot win a game with one bowler, you need three to four bowlers contributing. In my view, Shardul Thakur should have taken the new ball. He could have added something different up front," he added. When asked about the role of new head coach Gautam Gambhir, Madan Lal said judgements should not be passed early "You cannot judge someone based on just one Test match; it is wrong. Criticism is a part of the game, but it should be constructive and fair," he added. Coming to the match, the final day saw England produce a successful run chase. Led by Ben Duckett's impressive 149 and key contributions from Zak Crawley, Joe Root and Jamie Smith, the hosts reached the target in just 82 overs, finishing at 373/5 to clinch a five-wicket win and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.
