Deepika Padukone, Ananya Panday Slammed For Praising Alleged 'Wife-Beater, Abuser' Brad Pitt
Meanwhile, Deepika and Ananya's fans questioned why Bollywood insiders accused of abuse continue to get work and stardom in Hindi cinema.
Deepika Padukone couldn't contain her admiration for Brad Pitt following the global release of his much-anticipated film, F1. Recently, the Pathaan actor took to her Instagram Stories to share a playful tribute to Pitt. On Thursday, Ananya Panday followed suit and said that she loved Brad Pitt. However, the actresses have irked a section of Reddit who are trolling them for openly supporting Pitt despite the domestic and child abuse allegations levelled against him by his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie.
Deepika Padukone took to her Instagram Stories and wrote, 'Brad Pitt. That's it, that's the post. IYKYK." Ananya Panday posted, 'I love the movies!! I love F1!! I love caramel and cheese popcorn!! And I LOVE Brad Pitt." With these declarations, Deepika and Ananya joined millions of fans around the world in swooning over the 60-year-old Hollywood actor's performance as a Formula One driver.
However, many Reddit users pointed out that the actresses ignored the fact that there is evidence of domestic and child abuse against Brad Pitt. One person wrote, 'Wife beater. That's it. That's the post. Iykyk." Another mentioned, 'Are we forgetting Brad Pitt is a known domestic abuser? Is DP ok?" One comment read, 'The way everyone has moved on from that and pretending like it never happened is crazy to me. The Hollywood industry and just audience in general just don't seem to care. Crazy considering Angelina, the survivor, is a huge star herself."
One comment read, 'Celebrities should stop supporting and praising known domestic abusers and shitty people." Another added, 'Brad Pitt is a wife-beater and abuser. Please, someone tell her team." One comment read, 'We know what he did to his wife and kids to the point that none of his kids want to attach his name to theirs." Another mentioned, 'When the actor has beaten up his kids and choked their mother in front of them on an aeroplane, it kinda is problematic to LOVE them and to broadcast that love is wildly stupid and insensitive."
For the unversed, the most serious public episode involving Brad Pitt occurred in September 2016 during a private flight from France to Los Angeles with then-wife Angelina Jolie and their six children. According to Jolie's later court filings, Pitt 'grabbed [her] by the head and shook her… then choked one of the children and struck another in the face" when they intervened. It was also said that he 'poured beer on Jolie and poured beer and red wine on the children".
Although Brad Pitt was not charged in the matter, Angelina Jolie reintroduced these serious allegations in a 2022 countersuit within their protracted winery dispute. She accused Brad Pitt of seeking an NDA to silence her and asserted that the 2016 incident included choking their child and physical aggression toward her.
A closed-door family trial awarded Pitt joint custody, though Jolie later appealed due to perceived judicial conflicts. Today, while there's no legal charge of abuse against Pitt, questions linger due to Angelina Jolie's detailed claims in 2022 and the fact that their kids do not want to be associated with Brad Pitt.
Meanwhile, as a certain section of the internet continues to troll Deepika and Ananya, their fans questioned why Bollywood insiders accused of abuse continue to get work, audience support and stardom in Hindi cinema. It should also be noted that while others like Karan Johar and Hansal Mehta also shared posts about Pitt's film, only Deepika and Ananya were dragged online.

Theatre has to feel personal, or it is just noise to all, says director Abhishek Majumdar
1 2 Abhishek Majumdar, a playwright and director based in Bengaluru, believes theatre 'must reflect life in all its complexities'. With his latest play, Des, he brings together history, human emotions and satire to revisit the night of India's Independence. Excerpts from a chat: 'SATIRE IS JUST ANOTHER WAY OF TELLING A TRAGEDY' Most of the stories about independence focus either on patriotism or trauma, says Abhishek. With his play, the director tells us he was determined to offer a new perspective by bringing in a satirical plotline. 'Satire lets one hold both laughter and loss together alongside bringing the truth to the front. It isn't an imported product of Europe or America; satire is in our roots. The Indian epics are full of characters who speak the truth through humour. If we don't include satire, then we are just writing essays,' he says. ‘Metro... In Dino' Box Office Collection Day 1: Anurag Basu's romantic drama opens to a modest theatrical response
Anurag Basu's long-awaited ensemble drama 'Metro... In Dino' opened in Indian cinemas on July 4, 2025, earning an estimated ₹ 3.35 crore on its first day, according to early trade figures. The film, positioned as a spiritual successor to 2007's 'Life in a... Metro', had generated moderate pre-release interest, primarily due to its star-studded cast and the nostalgia associated with Basu's original. Despite the director's reputation and a seasoned ensemble including Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sara Ali Khan, the first-day response appears to have been tepid overall, particularly in terms of occupancy rates. Nationally, the Day 1 Hindi (2D) occupancy averaged around 12.72%, with a slight uptick in the evening shows (17.99%) compared to the morning (8.64%) and afternoon (14.24%) slots. Notably, there were no recorded numbers for night shows, either due to data unavailability or cancellations. Regionally, the turnout was varied. Chennai led the charts with a high 41% occupancy, followed by Bengaluru at 28.33% and Kolkata at 18.33%. The Mumbai and NCR regions—typically dependable urban markets—saw modest showings at 14.33% and 15% respectively. In contrast, cities like Surat (4%) and Ahmedabad (7%) recorded weak footfalls. 'Metro... In Dino' weaves together multiple narratives of modern love and relationships, echoing the structure of its 2007 predecessor but rooted in contemporary urban settings. Shot across major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Lucknow, the film explores themes of emotional distance, second chances, and the quiet complexities of everyday romance. Produced by T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions, the film blends musical storytelling with ensemble drama—a format that worked well in Life in a... Metro but now faces a more segmented and streaming-oriented audience. Whether word-of-mouth can drive weekend numbers remains to be seen, but as it stands, 'Metro... In Dino' has had a modest start at the box office.
