J.D. Barker's FLATLINERS: RESURRECTION Complete and Expected to Generate Major Bidding War
The completion of FLATLINERS: RESURRECTION marks a significant milestone for the franchise, which has captivated audiences since the original 1990 film exploring near-death experiences and the consequences of tampering with the boundaries between life and death.
'The phones haven't stopped ringing since this project was announced last year,' said Joel Gotler of Intellectual Property Group, who manages film, television, and domestic publishing rights in collaboration with Danny Baror at Baror International, Inc. 'I'm thrilled to finally take it out. Barker has crafted one hell of a tale. Not only does it hold true to the original, it also takes this in a very fresh and timely direction.'
Barker, renowned for his gripping suspense novels including DRACUL (Putnam), THE FOURTH MONKEY (HarperCollins), and SOMETHING I KEEP UPSTAIRS (Hampton Creek Press), wrote the novel with neuropsychologist turned co-author, Christine Daigle, under complete secrecy, sharing pages with no one until the manuscript was finished.
'We kept this one close to the vest,' Barker explained. 'I didn't want to risk a leak. The concept of 'Flatliners' has always fascinated me, and I wanted to ensure fans experienced this story exactly as intended - without any preconceptions or spoilers.'
FLATLINERS: RESURRECTION promises to delve deeper into the psychological and supernatural elements that made the original concept compelling, while introducing contemporary themes that resonate with today's audiences.
The original 'Flatliners' property, based on the screenplay by Peter Filardi, has maintained cultural relevance since its 1990 debut, with a 2017 film remake continuing to explore the franchise's central themes of mortality, consequences, and the unknown.
About J.D. Barker: Hampton Creek Press's J.D. Barker is the international bestselling author of numerous novels, including DRACUL and the wildly popular 4MK thriller series. His work has been translated into two dozen languages and optioned for both film and television. He regularly collaborates with James Patterson.

Teens arrested for Brad Pitt burglary targeted other stars, say LA police
Four teenagers have been arrested over a burglary that left actor Brad Pitt's home ransacked, police said. The suspects are allegedly behind a number of "celebrity burglaries" that targeted the houses of actors and professional athletes, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said. He said the male suspects, two 18-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 16-year-old, are street gang members, and property stolen in the burglaries was found when police searched their homes. Police did not name those whose properties were targeted, but celebrities including Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, LA Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and ex-LA Football Club striker Olivier Giroud have reported break-ins this year. The investigation started in late June after Pitt's home was raided by a trio of masked thieves. McDonnell said the group hopped a perimeter fence surrounding the Los Feliz home and shattered a window, hopping inside and taking items before fleeing. Police did not confirm the home belonged to the Oscar-winning actor, but the address matched that of a property Pitt bought in 2023. The large three-bedroom house sits just outside Griffith Park, where the famous Hollywood Sign sits. It is surrounded by a fence and greenery that shields the property from public view. Pitt was not home at the time of the burglary and was promoting his new film, F1. The BBC has contacted representatives for the actor. McDonnell said investigators found the suspects were part of a crew that "were burglarizing various high-profile residents throughout the city", which he said included homes of "actors and professional athletes". Last week, authorities followed the four suspects and were able to arrest them on burglary charges, he added. Police did not elaborate on what items were recovered after police searched their homes. McDonnell said burglars like this group had become increasingly smart in their crimes - planting surveillance cameras in nearby flowerbeds or across the street from homes they target to monitor a victim's routine. He said thieves had also been using wi-fi jammers to knock out home surveillance systems and cameras that could alert homeowners or police of a break-in. He noted that celebrities and athletes can be easier targets since their appearances and games are publicised online. He noted, though, that anyone posting on social media about their travels can unknowingly be alerting a potential thief to their location. "We don't really give enough thought to... [while] we want our friends to know where we are and what we're doing, you're telling everybody else then who may be looking to exploit your situation," McDonnell said. Tesla watchers warn that major struggle lies ahead for Elon Musk's company: 'Dramatically different'
Tesla continues to set records for all the wrong reasons. What's happening? The company's second-quarter revenue dropped 12% to $22.5 billion, its biggest decline in over 10 years, Forbes reported July 23 via Reuters. Vehicle deliveries slid 13% year over year, marking a second straight new low. Tesla's net income was down 16%, and it lost almost $600 million in regulatory credit sales. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives called it a "dramatically different [scenario] than three months ago" and said investors would look to the company's artificial intelligence initiatives and potential investment in xAI, per Forbes. Why is this important? If the electric vehicle giant continues this trend, it may have to complete the pivot to autonomous services and robotics that CEO Elon Musk has long floated. Characteristically, these musings have not been based in reality. As Forbes noted, he said a Tesla-backed ride-hailing platform would be available to hundreds of millions of Americans by the end of 2025. A limited rollout of Robotaxis in Austin, Texas, however, has produced ignominy due to dangerous and bizarre maneuvers. While no one is being forced into self-driving cabs, the poor performance is seemingly hurting Tesla's brand. Plummeting sales could impede the general public's adoption of EVs, a necessary step in the transition from dirty energy sources. Industries that rely on this power, which pollutes the atmosphere with heat-trapping gases, are driving rising global temperatures. Among the consequences are more frequent and severe extreme weather events that are wreaking havoc on the homeowners insurance market. What's being done about Tesla's slump? As noted, Musk may be using the sales slowdown as an opportunity to transition the company toward other endeavors. Tesla stock is down for the year but has bounced back from nadirs in March and April. While this signals confidence, a proposed class-action lawsuit was filed against Musk and Tesla on Aug. 4 by shareholders who alleged securities fraud, Reuters reported. It's the latest in a line of legal and investigatory obstacles that could make it difficult for the company to fully recover. Do you think a majority of Americans will have EVs in 20 years?
