SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy last month in Springfield appeared before a judge for a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday.

The judge ruled that 53-year-old Ahmed Ahmed will be held without bail until trial. That order comes after prosecutors argued Ahmed's release would pose a threat to public safety.
The Springfield Police Department stated in a news release that on Friday, May 30, officers received a report of a sexual assault. A 17-year-old boy reported to police that at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Friday, he was walking on Hancock Street and was forcibly dragged to Johnny Appleseed Park by an unknown man.
The man allegedly sexually assaulted the boy, who was eventually able to escape. He reportedly ran about one mile home as the suspect chased him. Springfield Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) detectives began investigating the incident by reviewing city cameras and speaking with the victim and witnesses.
On Tuesday, SVU Detectives were granted a warrant for the arrest of the suspect, Ahmed. At approximately 4:00 p.m., Ahmed was found on the 700 block of State Street and arrested. The boy's family says he is recovering at the hospital.
Ahmed is scheduled to appear in court again on July 11th for a pre-trial hearing.

Student calls hospital worker 'Welsh c***' then asks 'how is that racist?'

A student called a hospital security guard a "f***ing Welsh c***" then argued the remark was not racist. But Layla Ahmed would later admit her outburst at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales was racially abusive. The 20-year-old psychology student had attended the Heath hospital on December 8 last year with her sister, who "was having seizures", defence solicitor Amelia Butt told Cardiff Magistrates' Court. "This can be seen in footage where she is seen to be having a seizure on the floor in the background," Ms Butt added. "Miss Ahmed was frustrated at staff not being able to treat her sister and she accepts she made comments solely out of desperation in the heat of the moment." Ahmed then said to the security guard: "You f***ing Welsh c***." When he asked her to stop using racist language she replied: "How is that racist? You're white. You're Welsh." The student, of Catherine Street in Cathays, pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated harassment. Ms Butt said her client had been worried about what would happen to her sister. "She is remorseful," the solicitor told the court. "She accepts she should not have said what she said. She is 20 years old and has never been arrested before or since." Ahmed receives a student loan of £3,400 every four months and has been working part-time as a support worker earning around £100 per week. "I don't agree it was a substantial disturbance," said Ms Butt. "It was not a situation where other intervention or additional assistance was required." Passing sentence District Judge Rhys Williams said: "You were frustrated by the situation. You were asked to leave by the security guard and you used abusive language towards him. "That language included a racial element and it was directed at a security guard who was only doing his job in that situation." The judge imposed a £120 fine, £50 compensation to the victim, £85 in prosecution costs, and a £48 victim services surcharge. Ahmed must pay at a rate of at least £20 per month.

Brantford man charged with assault by Brantford police and OPP

A Brantford man has been charged with violent crimes by two police services. Provincial police arrested Alveen Ahmed, 28, last week, charging him with sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement. It was related to an ongoing investigation into a sexual assault that took place in Brant County in January, according to a news release on Thursday. Earlier in July, Brantford police charged Ahmed with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault, related to an incident on July 13. An officer had found someone with 'serious injuries' from a 'physical and sexual assault' near Golf Road and Highway 403, a Brantford police release said. Brantford police released Ahmed's photo and a picture of his pickup truck, a black 2022 Dodge Ram, because they think there could be more victims. Following both arrests, Ahmed is out on a $20,000 bail. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. He's not to leave his residence except if he or an immediate family member has a medical emergency, or if he is with his surety. He's not to have any weapons or drive without his surety present. He is also subject to GPS monitoring. In a Facebook post on Monday, Brantford—Brant South—Six Nations MP Larry Brock pointed to it as an example of Canada's 'broken' catch‑and‑release bail system.
