Prayagraj: The Sangam City is all set to host the Under-20 National Junior Athletics Championship for the first time. Scheduled from June 22 to 24, the championship will take place at the Madan Mohan Malviya Stadium, which was chosen by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) for its upgraded infrastructure, including a newly laid international-standard synthetic track.
The championship will witness participation from around 1,400 young athletes representing various states across the country. A wide array of events will be held, including sprints (100m, 200m, 400m), hurdles (110m, 400m), relays (4x100m, 4x400m), and middle and long-distance races such as the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, and 3000m steeplechase. Racewalking and field events like high jump, long jump, triple jump, pole vault, javelin throw, discus throw, hammer throw, and shot put will also be featured.
The heptathlon and decathlon will be part of the competition as well.
To ensure the championship meets AFI standards, several key arrangements have been made at the venue, including a fully equipped doping control centre, digital timing systems, medical and rest facilities for athletes, and accurate measurement tools. According to Regional Sports Officer (RSO) Premkumar, comprehensive preparations, including technical inspection of the stadium, security measures, transportation, and accommodation for athletes, are underway.

The technical delegates from AFI will oversee the implementation of these standards to ensure a fair and smooth event.
Coach Devi Prasad said that the championship would significantly boost Prayagraj's image as a national sports hub. Coach Satyendra Kumar highlighted the opportunity for local athletes to compete on home ground, which can boost their confidence and offer them exposure to high-level coaching and competition.
The presence of AFI's technical delegates will further ensure the championship maintains high standards in track measurements, equipment checks, time accuracy, and record verification. Their role will also be vital in managing doping tests and resolving any disputes.
This historic championship not only represents a leap forward for Prayagraj's sporting ambitions but also serves as a platform for nurturing the next generation of India's athletic talent, said the RSO.

Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying: Charles Leclerc takes surprise pole, Oscar Piastri joins him on front row

Charles Leclerc (Image credit: Instagram) New faces have been joining the top 10 for the past few races, and during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix, it was Fernando Alonso and his Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll dominating in the top five. At one point in Q2, the two even held the top two positions. Eventually, it was Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc who claimed his first pole of the season. He will be joined by McLaren driver Oscar Piastri on the front row, with Lando Norris behind them in third position on the grid. Hungarian Grand Prix Qualifying highlights Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has claimed five podiums so far and may be eyeing his first win of the season, as he will be starting Sunday's race from pole position. However, giving him close competition will be the usual duo — Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, both of whom finished on the podium last year. Speaking after his first pole of the year, Leclerc said, 'The whole qualifying was extremely difficult. It was difficult to get to Q2 and difficult to get to Q3. Then the conditions changed, I knew I had to do a clean lap to target third, and I can't believe it. Honestly, I have no words. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo It is probably one of the best pole positions I have had, as it is so unexpected.' Piastri added, 'The wind changed a lot, it sounds so pathetic blaming the wind but it switched around. It was difficult to judge in those conditions, maybe not the best execution. I was surprised we couldn't go quicker than that. Charles has been quick all weekend, and even this morning he was closer than expected. I wasn't expecting to be second to a Ferrari this weekend, but he's done a good job.' In fourth will be Mercedes driver George Russell. Two new faces in the top 10 are the Aston Martin drivers — Fernando Alonso in fifth and Lance Stroll in sixth. Kick Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto also put up a fantastic drive and finished seventh. In eighth position is Red Bull's Max Verstappen. He will be joined by his former teammate and current Racing Bulls driver Liam Lawson. Another Racing Bulls driver, Isack Hadjar, took tenth position in Saturday's qualifying. Antonelli was pushed to P15 after his final lap time was deleted. Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Nico Hülkenberg, and Alex Albon were eliminated earlier in Q1. Ocon had spotted a screw in his front tyre — a puncture. The Hungarian Grand Prix final will take place on Sunday at the Hungaroring circuit in Budapest at 3 p.m. local time (6:30 p.m. IST). Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap give their marriage another chance, Saina says "Trying again...'

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap On July 13, Olympic medallist Saina Nehwal shocked her fans and followers when she announced her separation from her husband and fellow badminton star Parupalli Kashyap. However, within weeks of being separated from each other, looks like the couple has now decided to make things work out in their marriage for the better. Surprising their fans yet again, Saina took to Instagram today and shared a photo with her husband. In the picture, Saina and her husband Parupalli Kashyap can be seen vacationing together. Her caption read, 'Sometimes distance teaches you the value of presence. Here we are— trying again.' The post was simple, yet deeply moving — a quiet but powerful statement of love and reconciliation. Just weeks earlier, on July 13, Saina had announced their separation, writing a heartfelt note on Instagram: 'Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap and I have decided to part ways. We're choosing peace, growth, and healing for ourselves and each other. I am grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward.' The announcement came as a shock to fans and the sporting community, as Saina and Kashyap have long been seen as a power couple — not just in Indian badminton, but in life. Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap's love story Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap's split has shocked fans, joining a list of sports couples like Sania Mirza–Shoaib Malik and Yuzvendra Chahal–Dhanashree Verma who parted ways in recent years. Despite their busy schedules as sportspersons, Saina and Kashyap always prioritised each other and their relationship grew stronger. As per reports, the duo also lived in the same locality and their families knew about their love for each other. In 2018, after dating each other for over a decade the duo got married in an intimate wedding ceremony. It was on December 16, 2018 when Saina and Kashyap surprised everyone by announcing their hush-hush wedding with a beautiful picture from their big day. 'Best match of my life #justmarried," read Saina's caption back then. Talking about her relationship with her husband Kashyap, Saina had revealed in an earlier interview with TOI, 'We started travelling for bigger tours from 2007-08 onwards. We played tournaments together, trained together and slowly, started paying more attention to each other's matches. In the competitive world that we live in, it is difficult to get close to someone. But somehow we both found it very easy to talk to each other, talk about our matches. The feeling gradually grew.' Now with both Saina and Kashyap trying to give their marriage a second chance, the couple reminds us all that even the strongest relationships can go through testing times — but sometimes, love does find its way back.
