Oppn deliberately stalling House proceedings, says excise minister
Agarwal said that for the past two days, the opposition had disrupted the House despite the govt repeatedly expressing readiness to answer all questions. "The govt is fully prepared to discuss important issues. But the opposition is here only for politics, not to raise people's concerns," he said.
Citing the recent Fatehpur incident, Agarwal said the Leader of the Opposition was informed that FIRs had been lodged against 11 accused, and action was being taken.
"Despite this, they did not allow the House to function. The legal process is underway, and anyone found guilty will face strict action," he added, reiterating the govt's "zero tolerance" policy on law and order and corruption.
The minister alleged that the opposition has a history of walking out whenever discussions on development are scheduled. He recalled that during the 36-hour debate on Sustainable Development Goals, which was praised by the United Nations, the SP and other opposition members staged a walkout.
Agarwal said a similar situation might arise during the upcoming debate on "Viksit Bharat," which he stressed was "not a BJP agenda, but a national and state agenda concerning 25 crore people of Uttar Pradesh."
He warned that if the opposition continues to avoid meaningful discussion, "the public, which is supreme in a democracy, will give them a fitting reply."

Vision document is like poll manifesto, another way to mislead public: SP
Lucknow: Leader of Opposition in UP Legislative Council Lal Bihari Yadav on Wednesday said the vision document presented by the BJP govt is another effort to mislead people. "It is another effort to mislead people. It is like an election manifesto, a sankalp patra. How the govt that has not fulfilled promises made in its election manifesto can have a vision or an objective," he said during the discussion on 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Uttar Pradesh '. The promise that they made in their first 'sankalp patra' of bringing back the black money deposited in foreign banks and giving Rs 15 lakh to every person in the country has not been fulfilled, he said. "Govt has not spoken even a word on this in parliament. It is 11 years for the BJP govt in the Centre and 8 in UP," he said. Yadav said instead of creating 2 crore jobs, as promised in their second sankalp patra, they are cutting down on jobs. "Outsourcing done by them has decreased the per capita income," he alleged. The SP MLC said the govt talked about doubling the income of farmers, but where are the farmers finding urea in the market? The income of farmers can be increased by reducing the input cost for agriculture, but that is not happening, he said. He further criticised the govt for not giving free electricity to farmers as was promised or implementing the MSP for paddy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo "The govt had also promised that within 90 days of coming to power, it will start the process to fill all vacant posts in a transparent manner, which has not been done it till now," said Yadav. The govt is neither giving reservation to backwards nor to SCs. In the matter concerning the recruitment of 69,000 teachers, around 5,893 posts meant for the backward class and 3,000 SC seats were filled with general category people. This was mentioned in the report of the National Backward Commission. This is an expose in only one job, said the opposition leader. He said education sector was in a bad state in UP as NCERT books were unavailable to students. Later, SP members walked out after Yadav said he was not given enough time to speak in the House. ‘GSDP growth, rise in per capita income shows UP on development track'
1 2 Lucknow: During the discussion on 'Viksit Bharat, Viksit Uttar Pradesh' in the UP Legislative Council on Wednesday, minister of state for excise (independent charge) Nitin Agarwal said that the pace of GSDP growth, and rise in the per capita income of the people, are indicators of the development of the state. Uttar Pradesh saw its GSDP grow by 2.5 times from 2016-17, when it was 13 lakh 30 thousand crore, to over 29 lakh 78 thousand crore in 2024-25. It is estimated to be around 35 lakh crore by the end of this financial year, said the minister. Similarly, the per capita income for UP in 2016-17 was Rs 54,564 and now it has almost doubled to more than Rs 1.8 lakh in 2024-25, he said, adding that it shows the resources were used well in the state to improve the basic infrastructural facilities. He said that industrialisation is another factor to measure development and the investors' summit played a role in promoting the same. During the summit, proposals worth Rs 45 lakh crore were received, out of which proposals worth over Rs 15 lakh crore are on the ground. It had a positive impact on the excise department, he said, adding that in 2016-17, there were 61 distilleries, which increased to 96 in 2024-25. The state had only five breweries in 2016-17, but in 2024-25, there are seven of them functional and four in the pipeline. The state did not have any winery earlier; now licenses have been issued for six, and four of them have started production. ‘Vision Document' a ‘lollypop' to people for next 22 years: Shivpal
1 2 Lucknow: SP MLA Shivpal Yadav termed the state govt's proposed 'Vision Document for 2047' as nothing more than a 'lollypop' to the people for the next 22 years. Speaking on the floor of the House, Yadav said the state govt was itself saying it would take at least 22 years to make the state developed. "The discussion should have been held on how the current BJP dispensation failed to deliver on its promises made to the people since 2017," he said. Shivpal said people were craving for basic amenities, including electricity and water, and farmers faced problems selling their produce and making a decent living. "The govt was not able to provide a quality road network. The promise of making the state roads free of potholes has fallen flat on its face. One can see the quality of roads within a 5 km radius of the Vidhan Bhawan," he said. Earlier, Leader of Opposition in Assembly Mata Prasad Pandey said the opposition intended to expose the "false and tall claims of the state govt". To this, parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna said the opposition only intended to spread anarchy. Pandey responded by questioning the state govt as to who was spreading anarchy through false encounters and attacking mausoleums and madrassas. Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra said a host of districts were facing a spate of floods, but the state govt "did not have a roadmap". Likewise, she said, the state was facing the worst-ever job crisis in the last 45 years, but the state govt had no roadmap.
