Man Utd's next transfer target after Benjamin Sesko is a 'bully' who wowed top Prem star
Manchester United's next transfer has been branded a 'bully' by a top Premier League midfielder. With United closing in on a move for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, attention has shifted to stiffening up Ruben Amorim's midfield.
Brighton 's Carlos Baleba has emerged as the club's number one target. The Athletic reports that contact has already been made with the south coast club, although his arrival would need to be coupled with departures following United's summer spending spree
The 21-year-old has been a revelation since joining the Seagulls from Lille in 2023. Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana was at the French club at the same time and saw a young Baleba take no prisoners when he stepped up to train with the first team.
Onana told the Inside Scoop: 'When I arrived, he was playing with the B team. I just saw a strong kid, he's the strongest kid I've ever seen. Jacked! He used to come up [to train with the first team] and be free, he'd bully the pros.'
Onana, 23, said he wasn't surprised that Baleba is now rated so highly, as he praised his down-to-earth nature. He said: 'He's done his thing and I always knew he had what it takes to get to the high level. He's a really good kid, really humble, works hard.'
Brighton could demand as much as £100m for Baleba, who has three years left on his Brighton contract. United reportedly value him at closer to £70m and it has been suggested that Baleba could ask the Seagulls to lower their asking price. Either way, they will almost certainly need to sell before they can buy.
Brighton chief executive Paul Barber has tried to play down the speculation surrounding Baleba. He told a fans' forum via BBC Sussex: "We've got some great talent, there's always going to be interest in our players.
" Manchester United have not been in touch with me. So from that point of view, speculation is speculation. We will always try to make sure we sell our best players at the right time, not just for the player but for us.
"If we end up doing that with any player, it's with the view to leave Fabian [head coach Hurzeler] with a very competitive squad, whatever happens. We don't want to sell our best players.
"Carlos is a fantastic talent who has a lot of years ahead of him. We hope he will be here for many years to come. But it's something that, as always, is subjective to the dynamics of the football world, which isn't always predictable."
First, United are looking to finalise a deal for Sesko, having lodged a bid of around £65.3m plus £8.7m in add-ons. Newcastle also want the Slovenian, but he is believed to be favouring a move to Old Trafford.

Sky Sports pundit 'gutted' over son quitting Premier League academy despite 'flying' there
A leading Sky Sports pundit admitted how he was upset to learn his son wanted to quit playing football, despite appearing to be excelling within a Premier League club's academy Clinton Morrison has explained a "gutting" feeling he felt after learning his son no longer wanted to pursue becoming a footballer. The Sky Sports pundit and former Premier League striker enjoyed an illustrious playing career of his own with the likes of Crystal Palace and Birmingham before moving into broadcasting. While he felt as though his son, Shay, would follow in his footsteps, given he was excelling with Nottingham Forest in his teenage years, it evidently wasn't meant to be. The 46-year-old, who was capped by the Republic of Ireland 36 times, told Mirror Football via Freebets earlier this year: "He was in the academy. It's gutting, to be fair. He was flying at Nottingham Forest. Then one day he came home at 14 or 15 and said, 'Dad, I don't enjoy football.' "You can't be a pushy parent and say, 'I want you to be a footballer.' It's not in him to be a footballer, he doesn't enjoy it. He probably went because he was young and he probably thought that's what I wanted him to do. But when you get to that age, it's kind of difficult." Fast forward to the modern day, and Shay has since gone on to study at university. But Morrison still has high hopes his other son, Kian, may make it to the professional level of football. He explained: "My youngest, Kian, is good though, he's got a great chance of being a professional. "He's not at a club at the moment because he wants to go and enjoy himself and play with his friends. But he's got a good chance. But yeah, my oldest, Shay, he decided it wasn't for him. "He is now at uni and he is doing well. You have got to be a father, you can't be pushy. Shay played as a striker, Kian plays as a centre-half. "I'd say my youngest is in the mould of John Stones. If he can have half the career that John Stones had, I'll take that. He doesn't like to kick it, he just likes to play out from the back and defend. So we've got a chance here." After enjoying stints with the likes of Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday and Exeter, Morrison hung up his boots in 2017 before dipping his toes into the world of coaching with Mickleover Sports. However, since September 2020, he has worked as a pundit for Sky Sports on their revamped Soccer Saturday show, while also providing matchday commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live.

Newcastle make decision on Alexander Isak and target Spain international
Newcastle United have made it clear to Alexander Isak that they will not sell him during this transfer window, much to the annoyance of the forward. The future of the Swede has been one of the transfer sagas of the summer, with Liverpool seeing a huge bid of £110m rejected by the Magpies. That offer came after Isak told his club that he is interested in exploring a move elsewhere, with Anfield seemingly his preferred destination. The 25-year-old looked set for an exit after he missed Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia and then joined former club Real Sociedad in training in Spain. These seemed like the actions of a player on his way out, but the Magpies are standing firm on their stance. The Telegraph report that the Newcastle board have told Isak he is not going anywhere this summer, however, this has not gone down well with the player who continues to train away from the rest of Eddie Howe's squad. Newcastle have a potential worst case scenario situation on their hands as they have chosen not to cash in on their most valuable asset, but he currently can add nothing to the team. Manager Howe obviously wants Isak to stay and continue to play as he has in the last three seasons, which saw him score 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies. He remains in the dark over what will happen, though, saying on Saturday: 'I think everything is in play. I've said many times he is contracted to us. He is our player. The club make the decision on his future. 'I don't know what that will be. Of course I have a preferred outcome. I want the best and the strongest squad possible, but I also want players that really want to play for this football club.' 'I'd want Alex to be playing today, I'd want him training tomorrow. We would love the player to be with us. Let me make that absolutely clear. There's no part of me that doesn't want that outcome, but I don't see the current situation changing for Aston Villa.' Even if Isak does stay, Newcastle want another striker in their squad after the departure of Callum Wilson at the end of his contract this summer. Their pursuit of new signings has been somewhat disastrous so far this transfer window, missing out on the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Aghehowa joined Porto from Atletico Madrid last year and scored 27 goals in 45 appearances in his first season with the club. He would not come cheaply this summer after signing a five-year contract with Porto which set his release clause at €100m (£86.6m).
