Manchester United Urged To Move In For This Brighton Midfielder: What Will He Bring To Old Trafford?

In a recent segment on Youtube, Rio Ferdinand urged his former club Manchester United to move in for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. Ferdinand said, 'If I don't get a striker, I'd go midfield. There's only one name I'm thinking about, I've got to be honest, who I think fits the bill for what we need… 'An Amorim-type player as well. Physically great, can drive with the ball, can take it in all areas, very good tactically, great energy, great legs, Premier League experience, centre midfield. Baleba. 'That's who I go and get. That's my man. That's the one I go and get. I go and break the bank.' Baleba's Recent Season In The Premier League Baleba managed to shine for the Seagulls in the previous campaign and did well to put in a handful of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Cameroonian frontman played in 40 matches for Brighton last season, scoring four goals and grabbing a couple of assists across multiple competitions. The 21-year-old was a decent contributor at the centre of the park as he averaged 1.49 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he only kept 25% of his attempts on target. Baleba was tidy when distributing possession in the opponent's half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.4% in the English first division (stats via BRIGHTON, ENGLAND – APRIL 12: Carlos Baleba of Brighton and Hove Albion during the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Leicester City FC at Amex Stadium on April 12, 2025 in Brighton, England. (Photo by) What Will Baleba Bring To Manchester United? Baleba is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer of the ball. However, the Cameroonian sensation needs to find a way to improve his productivity going forward. Baleba has got some experience in the Premier League under his belt and would be a real asset for the Red Devils if Ruben Amorim can devise a way to snap him up this off-season. Baleba would bring more bite and steel to Man United's midfield department. He would serve as a great long-term successor to Casemiro at the Mancunian club. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to listen to Ferdinand's advice by securing Baleba's services in this summer transfer window.

‘Only one name' – Rio Ferdinand tells Ruben Amorim to forget Sesko and names Prem star Man Utd must ‘break the bank' for

RIO FERDINAND has told Ruben Amorim to ditch plans for a striker and instead break the bank for Brighton's rising star Carlos Baleba. The former Manchester United legend believes his old club should focus on shoring up their midfield rather than splashing out on RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. 5 5 Despite the Slovenian striker being linked with a move to Old Trafford and sparking interest from Arsenal and Newcastle, Ferdinand reckons the money would be better spent elsewhere. With United's frontline struggling last season – Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing just seven Premier League goals between them. The Red Devils have already invested heavily in attack, bringing in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for a combined £133.5 million. But neither Cunha nor Mbeumo play as a traditional No 9, leading many to question whether Sesko would be the right fit. Ferdinand isn't sold on the idea of spending big on the young forward who are not Premier League proven. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the 46-year-old said: "I'm not really doubting [Sesko] as a player. I'm saying Man United need experience at the top of the pitch. "They've got Hojlund, Zirkzee, and Chido – they're young and inexperienced. "They need someone who can show them how to lead the line at the highest level. "Do we really want to gamble on a player who's still raw?" Instead of Sesko, Ferdinand's attention has turned to the engine room, with the former defender tipping Baleba as the perfect fit for the Premier League giants. On the Cameroonian midfielder who exclusively told the Sun that he wanted to win the Ballon D'or, Ferdinand said: 'There's only one name I'm thinking about, I've got to be honest, who I think fits the bill for what we need. "If it were me, I'd splash the cash on Baleba. "He's got the energy, the legs, the tactical awareness – everything you need to dominate midfield.' The 21-year-old Cameroonian midfielder was a key figure in Brighton's midfield last season, making 34 appearances after joining the Seagulls from Lille for £26 million. His all-action style and ability to drive the ball forward have made him one of the most exciting young talents in the league. Ferdinand continued: 'Baleba is exactly what United need – a box-to-box dynamo who can do it all. "He's got Premier League experience, and he'll free up other midfielders to focus on attacking. He'll have a massive impact on this squad.' 5 5 Given Baleba's impressive rise, Ferdinand believes United should go all in to secure him, rather than risk spending big on an unproven forward like Sesko. He added: ' If I've got the money, I'm going for Baleba every day of the week." United are currently in the U.S where their continuing their pre-season games with one interesting game against West Ham coming. There is an injury boost update in the team after goalkeeper Andre Onana who picked up an injury just after returning from his holidays responding to treatmnet and likely to return sooner than later.

The top 10 Premier League goals of the season

It was a season that lacked the intrigue of a drawn-out title fight, a riveting relegation run-in or even a deluge of high-scoring matches, but it certainly delivered its fair share of narratives, dramas and wonderful moments in front of goal. From Cole Palmer's cheeky chip against Wolverhampton Wanderers in August to Carlos Baleba's last-gasp curler against West Ham United, there was a generous offering of remarkable strikes befitting of the best league in the world. Here, Telegraph Sport ranks the 10 best goals of the Premier League season and asks, what do you think? With Brighton still pushing for European football, their cause looked lost as they trailed West Ham at home with a minute of normal time remaining. But, after Kaoru Mitoma popped up with an equaliser, the stage was set for Carlos Baleba to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. A delayed reaction from the home crowd met Baleba's stunning 30-yard curler into the bottom corner, perhaps because Alphonse Areola was left rooted to the spot. Then, scenes of utter jubilation as Baleba did his level best to join the fans after producing some equally spectacular backflips. Carlos in the 93rd minute! 🤯 @MonsterEnergy ⚡️ — Brighton & Hove Albion (@OfficialBHAFC) April 26, 2025 Arsenal fans were breathing a sigh of relief when they saw that Jean-Philippe Mateta had been left on the bench for a match they needed to win to keep alive their faint title hopes. But, with his Crystal Palace side 2-1 down, it took the Frenchman only three minutes to find the net after coming on in the 80th minute. His 14th league goal of the season was a strike of scintillating audacity. Pouncing on an uncharacteristic error from William Saliba, Mateta rolled Martin Odegaard before chipping David Raya on the turn from 25 yards out. The ball clipped the underside of the crossbar and nestled in the back of the net to send the away end wild. Mateta's late equaliser against Arsenal left us speechless 🤯 — BeSoccer (@besoccer_com) April 24, 2025 Alexander Isak was the focal point of Newcastle United's chase for Champions League football, with the Swedish international scoring 23 goals in 34 appearances. In a pulsating 3-3 draw with Liverpool in December, Isak opened the scoring with a blistering strike, smashing the ball into the top-right corner from the edge of the 18-yard box after getting the better of Virgil van Dijk. This effort was voted Goal of the Month for December, while Isak also scooped the Premier League's Player of the Month award after netting eight times from six matches. The Brazilian produced 15 goals to ensure an eighth consecutive top-flight season for his side. This dazzling goal against Southampton, slammed into the far corner from 25 yards, set Wolves on their way to their first Premier League victory of the season and is a prime example of why Manchester United are so keen on landing the 26-year-old this summer. 🇧🇷🚀 Matheus Cunha (25) with a long range strike for Wolves vs Southampton! 😎 — EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) November 10, 2024 This contender came on match-day two as Cole Palmer continued where he left off in 2023-24, when he struck 22 goals in his debut campaign at Chelsea. Latching on to Nicolas Jackson's flick from a long ball, Palmer nonchalantly lobbed Jose Sa from 30 yards, as Enzo Maresca's side cruised to a 6-2 victory in the Black Country. Cole Palmer scored his first goal of the season when he last faced what a goal it was! 🥶#CHEWOL — Premier League (@premierleague) January 20, 2025 Brighton did not quite make their goal of attaining European football this season, but their fans were given plenty of memorable moments in an encouraging first season under Fabian Hürzeler – not least Kaoru Mitoma's exceptional touch and finish against Chelsea. Mitoma set his side on the way to a dominant 3-0 win with an opener of exquisite skill, controlling Bart Verbruggen's up and under with two deft touches, cutting inside Trevoh Chalobah and then curling a right-footed effort past Filip Jorgensen. Jamie Carragher described the 27-year-old's touch as 'Messi-like', while Paul Merson said 'he could keep on trying that until he's 92 and he wouldn't do it'. "One of the great goals in Premier League football. That is Messi..."Paul Merson praises Mitoma's touch and goal against Chelsea, calling it "phenomenal." 🤩 — Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) February 15, 2025 Jhon Duran was not at Aston Villa for a long time, but he certainly left his mark before moving to the Saudi Pro League. The Colombian scored some sublime goals from off the bench to turn matches. One that will live long in the memory came in September, when Villa produced a remarkable comeback from two goals down to beat Everton 3-2. With the scores level, Duran unleashed a ferocious strike from 35 yards that crashed past Jordan Pickford and into the top-left corner to spark pandemonium in the stands and leave Emiliano Martínez open-mouthed. However, the Egyptian put his Wembley woe behind him by rifling a 30-yard rocket into the top corner. His effort dipped and curled from above and outside of a post to leave Kepa Arrizabalaga helpless and give City a huge boost to their hopes of securing Champions League football in 2025-26.
