Manchester United Urged To Move In For This Brighton Midfielder: What Will He Bring To Old Trafford?

Yahoo28-07-2025
In a recent segment on Youtube, Rio Ferdinand urged his former club Manchester United to move in for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. Ferdinand said,
'If I don't get a striker, I'd go midfield. There's only one name I'm thinking about, I've got to be honest, who I think fits the bill for what we need…
'An Amorim-type player as well. Physically great, can drive with the ball, can take it in all areas, very good tactically, great energy, great legs, Premier League experience, centre midfield. Baleba.
'That's who I go and get. That's my man. That's the one I go and get. I go and break the bank.'
Baleba's Recent Season In The Premier League
Baleba managed to shine for the Seagulls in the previous campaign and did well to put in a handful of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The Cameroonian frontman played in 40 matches for Brighton last season, scoring four goals and grabbing a couple of assists across multiple competitions.
The 21-year-old was a decent contributor at the centre of the park as he averaged 1.49 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he only kept 25% of his attempts on target. Baleba was tidy when distributing possession in the opponent's half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 87.4% in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

What Will Baleba Bring To Manchester United?
Baleba is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer of the ball.
However, the Cameroonian sensation needs to find a way to improve his productivity going forward. Baleba has got some experience in the Premier League under his belt and would be a real asset for the Red Devils if Ruben Amorim can devise a way to snap him up this off-season.
Baleba would bring more bite and steel to Man United's midfield department. He would serve as a great long-term successor to Casemiro at the Mancunian club.
Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to listen to Ferdinand's advice by securing Baleba's services in this summer transfer window.

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu joins promoted Sunderland on loan

SUNDERLAND, England (AP) — Newly promoted Sunderland signed 19-year-old striker Marc Guiu on a season-long loan from Chelsea on Wednesday ahead of the new Premier League campaign. Guiu made 16 appearances for Enzo Maresca's team last season and scored six goals — all in the UEFA Conference League campaign. Chelsea won the third-tier competition. Guiu became the second-youngest player (18 years, 350 days old) to score a hat trick for Chelsea. That feat came in a 5-1 victory over Shamrock Rovers. The Spaniard also played twice in Chelsea's run to the Club World Cup title. 'I see myself as a powerful striker, who can make a difference on and off the ball, and I pride myself on being a natural goalscorer,' he said in Sunderland's announcement. Guiu rose through Barcelona's youth academy and made seven appearances for the Catalan club before joining Chelsea in 2024. ___

Verizon Promo Offers NFL Sunday Ticket Access at No Extra Cost

It's still the NFL preseason, but ahead of the official 2025-2026 regular season kickoff in September, Verizon, a long-term partner of the league, is offering NFL Sunday Ticket to new and existing mobile and internet customers. You don't even need a paid subscription for YouTube TV or YouTube Primetime Channels. Verizon revived its Sunday Ticket on Us promo on Tuesday, and it will run through Sept. 23, along with an alternative option to get $200 off the sports package for a savings of up to $480. The deal grants football fans access to watch out-of-market Sunday games that aren't broadcast on their local networks. As an added perk, the company is giving out a limited number of free tickets to NFL games. Beginning Thursday at 8 a.m. ET, Verizon users can check the My Verizon app for spontaneous ticket giveaways throughout the season. You'll need a Google account to stream live games on the sports package. This promo expires on Sept. 23, and you must redeem it within 60 days of your purchase or service activation. How to get NFL Sunday Ticket for free from Verizon The wireless company offers multiple ways to get in on the game action, whether you're new or a current customer. How do you know if you're eligible for free access? If you buy a 5G phone from Verizon and sign up for a new line on its myPlan service, you can get the deal. Wireless customers can bring their own phone and add a new line with myPlan to be eligible. Activate one of these internet plans: Fios 1 Gig, Fios 2 Gig, LTE Home Plus or 5G Home Ultimate. Get $200 off the price of Sunday Ticket Existing Verizon phone or home internet customers can still get a discount without switching subscription plans or buying new devices, and returning Sunday Ticket subscribers may also be eligible. Though the offer doesn't apply if you're a Verizon prepaid, business or data-only phone customer, you can sign up for the sports package by Sept. 23 to lock in $200 off the full price.

Mike Vrabel dives in to break up Patriots-Commanders fight

With joint-practice season comes fights-during-joint-practice season. And a fight happening in Foxboro, between the Patriots and Commanders. Via Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston, New England coach Mike Vrabel dove to the ground to separate a Patriots offensive player and a Commanders defensive player. Vrabel ended up at the bottom of the pile. He emerged with a bloody cheek. "We want to practice the same way we've practiced against our team and that's by playing physical and aggressive and not doing stuff that hurts the team and certainly don't expect any of that and if it does, we'll have to handle it accordingly," Vrabel told reporters before practice started. "You have to be able to play competitively and physically without letting your emotions get the best of you." He undoubtedly will have something funny to say about the in-practice experience. And he'll undoubtedly have some pointed things to say to his players about the consequences of fighting.
