Punjab Women's Commission summons singers Karan Aujla, Yo Yo Honey Singh over lyrics allegedly demeaning women
In a formal complaint lodged with the state police, the commission's chairperson, Raj Lali Gill, has written two letters to the Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, demanding a proper probe into the two songs, which she said allegedly demean the dignity of women.
She has also asked that a senior officer be deputed to investigate the matter and that a report be submitted to the commission by August 11. Further, both singers have been summoned to appear at the commission's office on the same day.

Police gear up for Ganesh and Dasara festivities with foolproof security arrangements in Andhra Pradesh
Police are making elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the nine-day Ganesh Utsavams and Dasara Navaratri Utsavams across the State. Review meetings are being held with officers to finalise bandobust plans. 'The Ganesh Utsava Samiti members must obtain prior permission from the police for erecting pandals and take measures to prevent clashes and fire accidents,' a police officer said on Sunday. 'We will also hold meetings with Samiti members, committee organisers, and local leaders to ensure peaceful celebrations.' The Samiti, which met on Sunday, appealed to district, mandal, and village organisers to secure permissions from the Police, Fire, and other relevant departments, and to cooperate with officials for a trouble-free conduct of the festivities. Organisers have been asked to submit immersion (Nimajjanam) dates in advance to ease traffic management and facilitate arrangements at river ghats and other water bodies. Police said details such as the height of the Ganesh idol, name of the pandal organiser, fire-fighting arrangements, date of immersion, and procession routes must be provided for the Ganesh Navaratri Utsavams, which begin on August 27. Dasara arrangements For the Dasara Navaratri Utsavams atop Indrakeeladri and other locations in Vijayawada, more than 5,000 police personnel will be deployed. Measures will be taken to prevent thefts and other crimes during the nine-day celebrations. At a joint meeting on Dasara arrangements, NTR District Collector G. Lakshmisha, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu, and Sri Durga Malleswaraswamy Devasthanam Executive Officer V.K. Seena Naik, among others, reviewed security and other preparations for the Navaratri Utsavams, which commence on September 22.

Sale of cigarettes, gutkha products rampant near educational institutions
Recent searches on paan shops and other establishments by Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement (EAGLE) and the NTR commissionerate of police laid bare the poor implementation of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA-2003). Special teams led by EAGLE head and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ake Ravi Krishna and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-NTR) K.G.V. Saritha and other police officers searched shops near education institutions on Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road near Benz Circle a few days ago and seized different brands of cigarettes, gutkha packets and tobacco products. These shops were located near a pharma college, a hotel management institute, a degree college and a couple of schools. 'We have booked the shop owners and explained to them COPTA–2003 and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985,' Mr. Ravi Krishna said. EAGLE officials noticed a secret room attached to a paan shop and found students smoking in it. Locals alleged that despite several complaints on the sale of banned gutkha products and cigarettes at paan shops near educational institutions, there was no response. 'Some shop owners sold cigarettes and tobacco products to schoolchildren and maintained secret rooms,' Sriram, a youth, told the EAGLE team. Meanwhile, Director-General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta directed the police to conduct searches and prevent the sale of tobacco products, gutkhas and cigarettes within 100 yards of educational institutions. 'The joint raids were aimed at implementing the guidelines of Tobacco Free Education Institutions (TOFEI) and prevent the sale of narcotic drugs. cigarettes, gutkha and tobacco products,' the DGP said.

Bangladeshi police constable among five suspected intruders held in Meghalaya
GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Police on Sunday arrested one more member of an gang of suspected Bangladeshi intruders who attacked a villager in South West Khasi Hills district. The arrested person was identified as Mubarak Hussain. Four other gang members – Mefus Rehman (35), Jangir Alom (25), Meruphur Rahman (32) and Saem Hussain (30) – had been arrested from different parts of the district on Saturday. The men sustained injuries after being beaten up by villagers. Meruphur Rahman, a constable of the Bangladesh Police, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The motive behind their intrusion was not known. Superintendent of Police B Jyrwa said the police would interrogate the suspects after obtaining their remand from the court. The intruders had entered a shop at Rongdangai village in South West Khasi Hills in the early hours of Friday. They held a villager, Balsrang Marak, hostage and took him towards New Rongdangai village.
