Lamb attacked by dog near Stroud
Gloucestershire police's Rural Crime Team attended an incident yesterday morning (Tuesday, July 22) where a lamb appeared to have been attacked by a dog.
The injured lamb was discovered at around 11.30am by the farmer when checking on the animals.
The stress and injuries caused to the lamb could potentially result in a fatality.
Livestock worrying is a crime and can include dogs attacking animals physically and chasing sheep, especially when they are carrying lambs or there are young lambs within the flock.
Dog faeces left on grazing land may also carry disease which can kill sheep and affect unborn lambs.
Officers are asking anyone with information on yesterday morning's incident to make contact.

Last year, the Rural Crime Team took part in Operation Recall, which aims to protect livestock by encouraging dog-owners using the countryside to behave in a responsible manner.
When walking dogs in rural areas, dog-owners are advised of the following:
You must ensure a field or area has no livestock in it before letting your dog off lead. It is the law to keep your dog under control, and the responsibility falls with the owner
Always ensure your dog is under control in an area where there are livestock or wild animals
Be particularly vigilant during lambing season and always keep dogs on a lead during this time
If your dog is not good with other animals or people, avoid letting them off their lead when others are around
Don't allow people who may not be confident in doing so or have full control over the animal to walk your dog
Remember: where there may be no livestock in a field one day, the same location could be full of animals the next
Ultimately, a landowner, by law, and as a last resort for protecting their livestock, is able to shoot a dog which they believe is worrying sheep. Police must be notified within 48 hours if this course of action is taken

Concern is mounting that recent violent anti-immigrant protests could herald a new summer of unrest, a year after the UK was rocked by its worst riots in decades. Police have arrested 16 people since protests flared last week outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in the town of Epping, northeast of London. "This is the first time something like this has happened," one local who lives close to the Bell Hotel told AFP, asking not to be named. "The issue is not the hotel, but extremists applying a political ideology," he added. Late on Thursday, the hotel, cordoned off behind barriers, was again the centre of a protest involving dozens of people, with police making one arrest. With another protest expected on Sunday, the local council voted through a motion to demand the government no longer house asylum seekers at the hotel. Police officer shot in the face while investigating a killing in suburban New York
NORTH BAY SHORE, N.Y. (AP) — A police officer was shot in the face while attempting to search a home as part of an investigation into a recent killing in suburban New York, authorities said Thursday. They said the officer was expected to recover, and the suspect ultimately surrendered. The chain of events began Wednesday afternoon, when the body of a 66-year-old man was found in the woods in North Bay Shore, on Long Island. An investigation, including security camera footage, led investigators to want to question a former co-worker of the deceased, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said at a news conference. He said the two apparently were mechanics and had had conflicts in the past. Police obtained a search warrant and went to the 48-year-old man's home, where he fired on officers through an open door, the commissioner said. He said one officer, a 33-year-old former Navy medic with two years on the force, was shot in the face. The impact fractured one of his cheekbones and the bullet lodged near an ear, coming a half-inch (1 cm) from one of his eyes, said surgeon Dr. James Vosswinkel of Stony Brook University Medical Center. He said the officer was spared nerve damage and was on course for a full recovery. The officer underwent surgery to remove the bullet and was recuperating later Thursday morning. 'He's in a lot of pain,' the police commissioner said, but 'he's happy to be alive.' He said no officers fired. Instead, they surrounded the home and summoned hostage negotiators. The suspect surrendered around 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the commissioner. Police haven't yet released the officer's or suspect's name. Charges against the suspect are expected but haven't been announced.

Homicide investigation underway in Des Plaines, Illinois after man dead in car
Homicide investigation underway in Des Plaines, Illinois, after a man was found shot and killed in a car on Wednesday. According to Des Plaines police, officers responded to a report of a shooting around 4:25 p.m. in the 900 block of North Avenue. Police said officers found a man dead with a gunshot wound seated in a parked car. Police identified the man as Joseph Kalamaris, 33, from Rosemont, Illinois. According to police, a family member found Kalamaris and called 911. Des Plaines police confirmed there is no threat to the public, and they are investigating.
