Urea shortage creating unrest among farmers: CM Siddaramaiah
'DoF has ensured timely and adequate availability of 8.73 lakh MT of urea against pro-rata requirement of 6.3 lakh MT to Karnataka during the ongoing Kharif 2025 season so far. During the same period, the state has recorded sales of 7.08 LMT-much higher than the pro-rata requirement,' the Department of Fertilisers stated, responding to Siddaramaiah's letter to Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda.
DoF further added that it continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with the State Government to ensure Karnataka's farmers have timely access to urea throughout the Kharif season.

Expedite lifting of rice, KV urges Centre
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Monday urged Union Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi to expedite the lifting of rice from the State by the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Singh Deo, along with several BJP MPs from Odisha, met the Union minister in New Delhi and discussed the rice procurement target set for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2024-25 and lifting of rice by FCI. Odisha has procured a record quantity of 92,64,235 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy during KMS 2024-25, which is equivalent to 62,62,086 MT of rice, and is the highest ever procurement in the State's history. After the State's consumption, including during both Kharif and Rabi, there will be a surplus of 12 lakh MT of rice, which needs to be lifted by FCI. Additionally, the slow pace of surplus rice lifting by FCI is hampering overall procurement operations.

Fresh financial aid disbursement under farmers scheme began on Tuesday: Mamata
Kolkata, Jul 29 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said disbursement of fresh financial assistance under a scheme aimed to benefit over one crore farmers in the state started from Tuesday. Under the 'Krishak Bandhu (Natun)' scheme, farmers and sharecroppers in the state are provided assistance of Rs 10,000 per acre in two installments annually. Those with less land also receive assistance on a proportional basis (minimum Rs 4,000). 'I am delighted to announce that assistance under the Krishak Bandhu (New) scheme for the upcoming Kharif season has started from today," Banerjee said in a post on X. 'This time, 1 crore 9 lakh farmers and sharecroppers in the state are receiving this assistance. A total of Rs 2,930 crore is being directly transferred to their bank accounts," she said. Towards the end of the year, the same amount will be provided for the Rabi season as well, the CM said. The scheme was renamed as 'Krishak Bandhu (Natun)' in June 2021. 'Since its launch in 2019, we have disbursed a total of Rs 24,086 crore to our farmers through this scheme. I am proud of this! Not only that, if any farmer between the ages of 18 and 60 passes away, their family is provided with social security assistance of Rs 2 lakh. Under this component, nearly 1 lakh 46 thousand farmer families in Bengal have received a total of Rs 2,920 crore in assistance," Banerjee said. 'I always believe that our farmers are our wealth, our pride. Our government will continue to work in this manner for their overall welfare in the days to come," she added.
