Urea shortage creating unrest among farmers: CM Siddaramaiah

BENGALURU: Even as Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that there is a spurt in demand for urea fertiliser and that this shortage is creating unrest among farmers, Department of Fertilisers (DoF) maintained that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure the state's farmers have timely access to urea throughout the Kharif season. 'DoF has ensured timely and adequate availability of 8.73 lakh MT of urea against pro-rata requirement of 6.3 lakh MT to Karnataka during the ongoing Kharif 2025 season so far. During the same period, the state has recorded sales of 7.08 LMT-much higher than the pro-rata requirement,' the Department of Fertilisers stated, responding to Siddaramaiah's letter to Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilisers Jagat Prakash Nadda. DoF further added that it continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with the State Government to ensure Karnataka's farmers have timely access to urea throughout the Kharif season.

Centre stood by Himachal in the past and will continue to do so: Nadda

Shimla, July 9 (UNI) BJP National President and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today visited the rain-ravaged areas of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh due to the monsoon. The party chief visited areas that suffered major damage due to heavy rains including Nachan, Pangliur, Baga, Sainj, and Thunag. He met people who had lost 100 percent of their homes and land, some had even lost their parents and family members in the disaster. He also visited relief camps housing the affected people. Talking to the media, Nadda said he has been consistently visiting Himachal Pradesh during times of disaster, offering support and solidarity. "Recent destruction caused by rains is distressing. It has caused damage in the state, especially causing loss to life, property, and livestock. Many villages have been rendered and many places I visited have suffered huge losses," he lamented. If any political party was the first to provide relief to the public, it was the BJP, he claimed, adding that with the support of the public, various service centres were being operated, and the BJP played a leading role in quickly collecting and distributing food and daily necessities to the victims. Nadda emphasised that the Government of India has always been prompt in providing relief and financial assistance to Himachal Pradesh. "Our sentiments are with the affected people. BJP, headed by state president Rajeev Bindal and supervised by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, is spearheading in relief work in Himachal. We are ensuring that no one is left in pain," he said. As far as relief from the centre is concerned under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, immediate and time-bound assistance has been provided time and again. Recalling the 2023 disaster, Nadd said he had visited Himachal thrice during that period and ensured that assistance worth Rs 3,146 crore was delivered to the state through the central government. Currently in the wake of the disaster, Home Minister Amit Shah has released Rs 2006 crore as disaster relief for rehabilitation and reconstruction on the basis of assessment. "As a representative of Central Government I would like to assure the people of the state that the Centre is committed to give more than the rightful funds for relief work. I urge the state government to implement the relief and rehabilitation effectively as earlier there were reports of weak implementation in relief work, despite the fact that there were adequate funds," he said. JP Nadda condemns assault on NHAI men by minister: ‘alarming, unprecedented'

BJP national president and Union minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday criticised Himachal Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh for allegedly thrashing two NHAI officials in Shimla a few days ago and said, 'What would happen to people when those supposed to protect the law take matters into their own hands?' Addressing the media in Bilaspur, Nadda dubbed the incident 'alarming and unprecedented' for a peaceful state like Himachal, which is known as 'Dev Bhoomi (land of the gods)', and expressed concern over 'the deteriorating law and order'. 'It is a worrisome incident. This incident has two aspects. First: it hurts the Dev Bhoomi culture of our land; and the second: the government, which job is to protect, has become predators…what would happen to people when those supposed to protect the law take matters into their own hands…it shows what kind of government is running in the state,' Nadda said. On Monday, an FIR was registered against the Himachal minister for allegedly assaulting NHAI officials — manager Achal Jindal and site engineer Yogesh Verma. Nadda announced that work on 25 national highways, spanning 2,592 kilometres, was underway across Himachal. 'Of these, 785 km are being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), 1,238 km by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and 569 km by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO),' he said, expressing his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for approving and supporting these major infrastructure initiatives. Nadda highlighted four key infrastructure projects under the NHAI, most of which are expected to be completed by 2026-27, with the remaining scheduled for completion by 2028. Barring the Shimla-Motor National Highway for which preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) is underway and completion is slated for 2028, the Parwanoo-Shimla, Kiratpur-Manali and Pathankot-Mandi National Highways would be completed in 2026 and 2027, he said. Nadda said he would write to the chief minister and also hold discussions with him on two important matters, including the exclusion of highway construction equipment from the industrial category. Nadda said temporary construction setups like crushers, hot mixers, and bitumen heating units, used in NHAI projects, should be exempted from requiring annual NOCs from the State Pollution Control Board. 'These temporary installations,' he said, 'are slowing down progress due to bureaucratic delays,' Nadda stressed the urgent need for a decision on dredging in the Beas river region.

Union Minister JP Nadda reviews progress of road infra projects in HP; seeks state's support for expedited implementation

Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Union Minister of Health and Family welfare, and Bharatiya Janata Party president Jagat Prakash Nadda chaired a high level meeting here today to review the status and progress of Government of India's initiatives to transform road connectivity in Himachal Pradesh through accelerated development of National Highways and tunnel infrastructure. Sources said that Union Minister Nadda presided over a detailed presentation by senior officials of MoRTH, during which the status, challenges, and future plans for the development of road infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh were discussed comprehensively. Himachal Pradesh currently has a total of 25 National Highways with a combined length of 2,592 km entrusted for development and maintenance. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MoRTH is implementing critical highway projects across the state, sources said. According to sources, at present, projects of total length of 627 km are under construction, amounting to Rs 25,600 crore. Apart from this, projects of 416 km length are in pipeline, with an estimated expenditure Rs 25,265 crore. In addition to this, tunnels form an important component of infrastructure under MoRTH. While 19 tunnels costing Rs. 3,200 crore are under construction, 28 tunnels costing Rs 5,400 crore are in the pipeline. While acknowledging the support and cooperation from the Himachal Pradesh Government in land acquisition and forest clearances, it was pointed out that several critical issues require further collaboration to ensure the timely and effective development of road infrastructure in the state. Underscoring the critical importance of highways and tunnels for the growth, development and progress of the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, with Nadda urging the state government to resolve these pending issues. Sources also mentioned certain important projects, including dredging in the Beas River (Mandi-Manali Stretch of NH-3). 'The unprecedented floods of July 2023 severely damaged the Mandi-Manali highway at multiple locations. Despite repeated requests from the Centre, effective dredging of the Beas riverbed has yet to be undertaken. Removal of boulders from the riverbed and enhancing the river's water-carrying capacity are crucial for the long-term safety of the highway and riverside communities,' the source mentioned. While DPR preparation and tendering for permanent highway restoration are in progress, Nadda urged the state government to expedite the dredging work between Mandi and Manali to prevent further damage. The matter of Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board's recent clarification on April 23, 2024, which categorised highway widening projects under the 'Orange' industrial category was also raised in the meeting. 'This has raised concerns as it could adversely affect ongoing NHAI projects through financial and contractual complications. Nadda, has requested the state government to review this clarification and exempt highway projects, especially those initiated before 23 April 2024, to avoid unnecessary delays,' the source said. Apart from this, expediting stage-I forest clearance for Sumdo-Kaza Road (NH-505, Package-IV) also needs attention. This project was approved on 15.03.2024 at a cost of Rs 518.90 crore. However, the work could not be initiated due to delays in obtaining Stage-I Forest clearance. Nadda stated that he has discussed this matter with Chief, who has assured that the issue will be resolved at the earliest. He again urged the state govt to expedite the forest clearance. Sources said that several high ranking and senior officers from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), along with Bilaspur MLA Trilok Jamwal, Sri Naina Devi ji MLA Randhir Sharma, were also present at the meeting. Work underway for 25 highways in Himachal: JP Nadda

Bilaspur: Amidst a 'rift' between the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Himachal Pradesh government, BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda on Saturday said work is going on 25 national highways in the state, whose total length is 2,592 km. Out of these, 785 km is being built by the NHAI, 1,238 km by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways MoRTH and 569 km by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), all Central government organisations. Nadda thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for these projects. The rift between the NHAI and the state government erupted earlier this week after the alleged assault took place, following the collapse of a vacant five-story residential building that was close to the under-construction highway. The state police on July 1 registered a case against state Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh Rana and six others on charges of assaulting two NHAI officials, raising a political storm with the state opposition BJP seeking his removal from the Cabinet. Nadda, who belongs to Himachal Pradesh, told the media in his hometown, Bilaspur, that four major NHAI projects are underway in the state, and their maximum work would be completed by 2026 and 2027. He said for the four-lane Kiratpur-Manali National Highway, designed to bypass Mandi city, Rs 7,667 crore has been allocated. On this highway, 12 tunnels of 11.51 km are under construction. Likewise, for the Shimla-Mataur highway, there is an allocation of Rs 10,208 crore with the provision of 15 tunnels of a length of 13.41 km. The Pathankot-Mandi highway, with an outlay of Rs 1,088 crore, has 13 km of a total length of 10 km. Union Minister Nadda said that he would speak to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on issues related to the construction of the highways. He said the sanction for the Sumdo-Kaza road was received in 2024, and this work is being done by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), but the state government is still not able to give its forest clearance. For his home district, Bilaspur, Nadda said Rs 35 crore has been allocated for the Ghumarwin-Shahtalai Road, and it would be upgraded by 2026. Responding to the 'rift' between the NHAI and the state Congress government, the BJP national President said, 'What can be expected from a government in which the protectors are the predators? Himachal Pradesh is Dev Bhoomi (land of gods), and such incidents are worrying and also saddening. It has never happened before in Himachal Pradesh that a public functionary has taken the law and order into his own hands.' Nadda said an attempt is being made to create an environment in Himachal Pradesh that the Central government 'is not paying attention to Himachal. But contrary to this, the state government is unable to spend the money allocated by the Centre.' Quoting official figures, the Union Health Minister said from 2021 to 2025, a sum of Rs 360.11 crore has been provided by his ministry under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), out of which the state government has been able to spend only Rs 78 crore. Under this scheme, 73 block-level public health units are proposed to be built in the state, but only six have been built, while tenders have been done for 14. Eight critical care units are to be established. Likewise, the state has been allocated Rs 521 crore by the 15th Finance Commission, out of which only Rs 128.62 crore lakh has been spent. He said the Chief Minister came to meet him on May 25, and he sought funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) The Centre approved Rs 1,138 crore on June 30. Out of this, Rs 1,024 crore has been given as a grant-in-aid to the state, while the remaining is a loan at a low rate of interest. For natural calamities, Nadda said Prime Minister Modi has provided Rs 1,736 crore under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), Rs 1,071 crore under the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) and Rs 339 crore under the State Disaster Mitigation Fund in three years to the state. Recently, the Home Minister has allocated Rs 2,006 crore under the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Fund (PDRRF) to the state.
