'You melt me': Deputy Speaker jokes after MP clarifies misunderstanding
Rodiyah clarified that she had intended to praise Ramli for his "immense patience," prompting the Deputy Speaker to quip, "You melt me," eliciting laughter in the House.
Initially, Ramli did not deny raising his voice but advised Rodiyah to instead admonish other MPs who failed to follow Standing Orders, which had necessitated his tone.
"You said my voice was raised. I do not deny it. What you should do is correct your colleagues in this House, not me. Do you understand what I mean?
"If the Honourable Members in this House, all 221 of you, feel I am unfit, those who elevated me to Deputy Speaker did so by your own decision. I leave it to you," he said.
Rodiyah then rose to clarify her statement before posing a supplementary question to Agriculture and Food Security Deputy Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup during the oral question-and-answer session.
"I would like to make a small correction, Datuk (Deputy) Speaker. What I meant earlier was to highly praise the Deputy Speaker. He has immense patience because of MPs who test his patience… that was what I actually meant to express," she said.
Her clarification drew a playful response from Ramli, who joked: "Honourable Member for Batang Sadong… you melt me," prompting laughter from MPs.

563 companies probed for bid rigging cartels in public procurement worth RM2.66bil
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) is currently probing 563 companies that are allegedly involved in trade cartels, the Dewan Rakyat hears. Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said a special emphasis was being given on companies that were rigging bidding in public procurement. '563 companies are being investigated for suspicion of being involved in trade cartels and special focus is given to bid-rigging cartels in public procurement worth RM2.66bil,' said Armizan in a Parliamentary written reply dated Aug 21. Armizan said that from 2012 till presently MyCC have incurred RM647.9mil of penalties to 265 companies for forming trade cartels. Armizan said all of MyCC's decisions, involving financial penalties of a total of RM647.7mil on several cases, are available for public viewing on the MyCC website, in line with the Competition Act 2010 (Act 712), which requires these decisions to be published. Armizan said his ministry, through MyCC, takes the trade cartel issue seriously. 'Under competition law, trade cartels are categorised as the worst crime because it is a form of economic sabotage, not only to the national economy, but consumer rights,' he added.

Bumiputera empowerment continues in 13MP with needs-based poverty eradication
KUALA LUMPUR: The bumiputera socio-economic empowerment agenda outlined in the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 continues to be emphasised in the 13th Malaysia Plan. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated this effort ensures that no one is marginalised during the 13MP implementation period. 'In principle, the government has always abided by what is enshrined in the Constitution, as emphasis is given to bumiputeras and this will always be safeguarded,' he said when winding up the debate on the 13MP motion in the Dewan Rakyat today. Amir Hamzah, who also carries out the duties and functions of the Economy Minister, stressed that poverty affects all regardless of ethnicity or religion. He confirmed the government will continue to eradicate poverty regardless of ethnicity through comprehensive measures. 'The bumiputera affirmative agenda will continue to be safeguarded as enshrined in the Constitution, and poverty will be addressed in line with the implementation of needs-based policies,' he added. The government remains committed to intensifying comprehensive development based on multiple dimensions to create equitable opportunities. This approach aims to increase social mobility and the well-being of the rakyat through needs-based assistance. 'This effort will benefit all target groups in need, including bumiputera, Orang Asli, Sabahans, Sarawak bumiputera, as well as the Indian and Chinese communities,' he concluded. – Bernama
