Special OTET question paper leak: One more teacher held
The accused has been identified as Prasant Kumar Khamari (56) of Jenakhalpada under Bhawanipatna police station. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to seven.
Briefing mediapersons, Crime Branch DIG B Gangadhar said, the handwritten question papers of SOTET which were viral in different social media platforms were written by Khamari.
'Khamari, working as teacher in Government UP School at Bhejipadar in Bhawanipatna, had hatched a criminal conspiracy with Bijay Kumar Mishra, the working president of state ex-cadre teachers association Sanatan Bisoi, president of ex-cadre teachers association of Koraput district and other associates to orchestrate the crime.
He had translated the question papers obtained through data entry operator Jitan Moharana of Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, Cuttack, by using Google Translation application and wrote the computerised question papers in his own handwriting to screen the actual leaked paper,' said Gangadhar.
Besides, he enticed the gullible teachers who had failed in last Special OTET examination and sold the papers to make easy money. After collecting cash from teachers, he had transferred `99,000 through UPI to accused Bijay Kumar Mishra. Khamari's bank accounts are under verification, he informed.
The mobile phone of Khamari has been seized and sample handwriting has been taken in presence of witnesses which will be sent to Hand Writing Bureau and Cyber Forensic for examination and opinion. Further investigation is in progress to trace the links of other accused persons and find out their involvement in the case, he added.

INDORE: Crime Branch of Indore police on Thursday arrested a man accused of defrauding people across several states of crores of rupees on the pretext of share marketing and share trading. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said the accused, identified as Abhishek Bhatt, 40, son of Ashok Kumar Bhatt, a resident of Kalakriti Avenue, Chikitsak Nagar, Indore, allegedly duped investors in Madhya Pradesh and other states by forging documents and promising high-value share deals. According to police, Bhatt swindled Mumbai-based businessman Pratik Khandelwal of Omkar Altamont, Malad East, of around Rs 2.21 crore by preparing forged documents and falsely claiming to sell him 75,000 shares of an unlisted company, ESDS. Acting on directives from senior officers to curb share trading-related frauds in the city, Crime Branch officials registered a case under sections 318(4), 338, 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and took up the investigation. Bhatt was arrested following inquiries and, during questioning, admitted to committing the offence. ; Investigators suspect his involvement in several other fraud cases, and further questioning is underway. CB concludes questioning in OTET paper leak case, finds new details
CUTTACK: The Crime Branch has reportedly gathered crucial information and evidence in the special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) question paper leak case after interrogating two prime accused, BSE data entry operator Jitan Moharana and Bijaya Mishra, working president of the state ex-cadre teachers' association. The duo, arrested earlier in connection with the case, were taken on a two-day remand on Monday and questioned by a special team of officers. During interrogation, both confessed to their role in the leak, sources said. Moharana reportedly said in his statement that he obtained the question papers from the laptop of the BSE vice-president using a pen drive well before the examination. He printed hard copies from a printer, placed the pen drive and the papers in an envelope, and drove to Nayagarh in his own car, hiring a driver for Rs 1,500. In Nayagarh, Moharana handed the envelope to Mishra's brother. Subsequently, Mishra transferred Rs 2.5 lakh to Moharana's bank account via UPI. The leaked papers were later sent to Ambodala in Rayagada, where accused Prasant Kumar Khamari, a teacher at government upper primary school at Bhejipadar in Bhawanipatna, translated them using Google Translate and rewrote them by hand to disguise the leak, Crime Branch sources said. Based on the accused's statements, the CB has also been questioning Mishra's brother, the car driver, and a woman data entry operator from the BSE vice-president's office to determine when Moharana accessed the laptop and why the activity went unnoticed. So far, eight people, including BSE vice-president Nihar Ranjan Mohanty, have been arrested in the case. Officials suspect a larger syndicate operating across several districts, possibly involving more board officials. Following the end of their remand, Moharana and Mishra were produced before the JMFC-3 court on Wednesday afternoon.

One More Arrested In Tamil Nadu Techie Dishonour Killing Case
Chennai: The Crime Branch-CID arrested another person on Wednesday in the alleged dishonour killing of 23-year-old Dalit techie Kavin Selvaganesh. Investigators said Jeyapaul was arrested for allegedly sheltering the key accused, Surjith. Jeyapaul, Surjith's cousin, allegedly hacked Kavin to death on July 23 in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli, opposing his sister's inter-caste relationship with the victim. Earlier, Surjith's father, Saravanan, a serving Sub-Inspector, was also arrested in connection with the murder. Both father and son have been arrested for murder, and the case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered. Surjith's mother, also a police Sub-Inspector, has been suspended, and the family of the victim has demanded her arrest too. Kavin, a software engineer from Thoothukudi, was treating his ailing grandfather at a Siddha centre — where his girlfriend, a Siddha doctor from a dominant caste, worked — when he was allegedly lured away and killed. CCTV footage reportedly shows Surjith taking Kavin on his bike shortly before the attack. The murder, now being probed by the CBCID, has triggered widespread outrage over caste-based violence and police complicity. Kavin's family had initially refused to accept his body, demanding the arrest of all those involved. With Jeyapaul's arrest, investigators believe they have uncovered a key link in the chain of events following the killing, as the case continues to unfold. Kavin's girlfriend, in an unverified video, has said she truly loved him, and her father didn't know about their relationship and claimed her parents had no role in the murder.
