Allure Magazine Launches Philippines Edition

Allure, the Condé Nast-owned beauty publication, is expanding its global footprint with the launch of a Philippines edition, marking the brand's second foray into Asia following its Korean edition.
The magazine, which released its first issue today, is published through a licensing agreement with Mega Global Licensing Inc., a Manila-based firm that also licenses Vogue Philippines.
The new edition will be led by Rissa Mananquil Trillo, a beauty industry veteran and the founder of Filipina-focused skincare brand Happy Skin, who was appointed editor-in-chief in November 2024. Mananquil Trillo hopes to leverage the legacy title to redefine what 'beauty looks like for Filipinos today — giving space to our own stories, our skin tones, our rituals, and our identities,' she said in a statement to The Business of Beauty.
'We're here to raise the standard, challenge the narrative, and make sure the world sees the richness of Filipino beauty — because we've always belonged on the global stage,' Mananquil Trillo added.
The inaugural issue, out today, features actress Heart Evangelista alongside social media personality Bretman Rock. Its cover story, titled The Morena Manual, explores evolving Filipino beauty ideals, focusing on melanated skin.
Recurring sections include The Beauty Brief, for makeup service; Meet the Expert, spotlighting industry professionals; A Balanced Life, covering wellness and mental health; and Beyond Beauty, which will explore sociocultural issues such as lookism discrimination in the workplace. The edition will publish three issues annually, with content distributed across its website and Instagram.
Allure's entrance into the Philippines aligns with Condé Nast's broader push to tap into high-growth emerging markets. With a young population, increasing GDP, and a thriving digital landscape, the Philippines represents a key opportunity in Southeast Asia's expanding beauty and media economy.

Everything old is old again — like Putin playing with Stalin's handbook

Everything old is old again Contrary to popular belief, I have thoughts. Putin. Playing us in the Ukraine like Stalin played us in Korea. The USA negotiated that Korean armistice for years — but fighting continued. The armistice? Not signed until Stalin died. Putin is playing with Stalin's handbook. Now, we speak of the Great White Way. Broadway is shrinking to narrow way. Current productions shrivel and there's yesteryear's reruns like 'Cabaret,' 'Chicago,' 'The Music Man' and 'Othello.' OK, so maybe a $2 bill isn't returning, but white powdery round doughnuts have been making their moves. And young people are moving back in with their parents. Cinema? Besides an upjuiced Tom Cruise still smashing, bashing and trashing, there's maybe a 600th 'Star Wars' and soon maybe Shirley Temple outfitted in some shmatta from a consignment shop. Next up? Garter belts, stockings and boobs INSIDE bras. Coming next? Sitting in a rumble seat it'll be Tom Hanks playing a teen and De Niro chasing one. Forget Christmas. We'll re-see 'Miracle on 33rd Street,' a silent 'It's a Wonderful Life' and campaign buttons that say 'Vote for Thomas E. Dewey for President.' Want more? How's corduroy, plaids, chunky sweaters, vinyl records, recorders, vintage cameras, hairpieces. Watch. Before you know it we'll get a cloned Richard Nixon back again. Don't forget convertible cars or retro office buildings getting reborn into cozy apartments. Year by year, bit by bit, day by day, what's NOT going back is the way you used to look good in that magnifying mirror. Contrary to popular belief, I have thoughts. Giving back to alma mater WHAT's going forward is the top women's college — Barnard. Graduates include Greta Gerwig, Helen Gahagan Douglas, Eileen Ford, Twyla Tharp, Sheila Nevins, Erica Jong, Cynthia Nixon, Jeane Kirkpatrick — and philanthropist Francine LeFrak who last week opened the Francine A. LeFrak Center for Well-Being. It provides holistic support across key dimensions of health and wellness — physical, mental, financial. She previously opened the Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Theater which seats 2,300. At the opening, Brian Stokes Mitchell sang 'The Impossible Dream' to honor the late Ethel who had a big crush on Brian Stokes Mitchell long back — when he had just two names. ALSO changed? The medical fraternity. Tell your doctor: 'Oh, I'm suddenly so grateful to you. I'm just beginning to suddenly feel a bit better. How can I ever repay you for taking care of me?' Doctor: 'By check, cash or money order.' FOR sure mostly in New York, kids, mostly in New York.

Manny Pacquiao enshrined in boxing's Hall of Fame just as he resumes his record-setting career

Manny Pacquiao's fighting days aren't finished yet, as he's coming out of retirement at 46 for a shot at another title next month. No matter what happens in the remaining stage, it's hard to find many better resumes than the one he already assembled in a career that landed him in the International Boxing Hall of Fame on Sunday. Advertisement 'And now, when I look back,' Pacquiao said, 'eight-division world champion, world titles in four different decades, oldest welterweight world champion in history, those are not just opinions. They are facts.' Pacquiao was the headline name in the class of 2025 that was enshrined during a ceremony at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. He won't be able to celebrate too long, as then it's back to training for his July 19 bout in Las Vegas against WBC champ Mario Barrios. Pacquiao didn't mention that during his speech at the end of a lengthy induction ceremony. Instead he focused on the record-setting accomplishment of winning titles in eight weight classes, a fighter who made his pro debut in the 106-pound class and rose all the way to win a title at the 154-pound limit. 'From flyweight to junior middleweight, eight divisions,' Pacquiao said. 'Every fight, every victory was a step further from poverty. It was not just for me but for my family, for the Filipino people.' Advertisement Vinny Paz, the three-division champion formerly known as Vinny Pazienza who overcame a broken neck sustained in a car crash to resume his career, and Michael Nunn, a champion at middleweight and super middleweight, were the other top men fighters in the class. Women in the class included Yessica Chavez, Anne Sophie Mathis, Mary Jo Sanders and Cathy 'Cat' Davis, who after filing a sex discrimination suit against New York State Athletic Commission became one of the first women to be granted a pro boxing license by the organization in 1978. Pointing to the jewelry the inductees received, Davis said: "I've got this beautiful ring here and I asked them to make it big enough for my middle finger, because if I ever see those old white stupid men who kept us out, you know what I'm going to do." Kenny Bayless, who worked some of Pacquiao's biggest fights including his loss to Floyd Mayweather and knockout of Ricky Hatton, and fellow referee Harry Gibbs were enshrined, along with cut man Al Gavin. Broadcaster Randy Gordon, HBO producer Ross Greenburg and late boxers Rodrigo Valdez and Owen Swift rounded out the class. Advertisement Pacquiao retired in 2021 with a record of 62-8-2 with 39 KOs, fighting in some of the biggest blockbusters of the 2000s. He said he always sought the toughest opponents so he could continuing testing himself. That made him far richer than he could have imagined when he was raised in poverty in the Philippines. He went on to serve his country as a senator from 2016-22 and ran unsuccessfully for president, and his voice broke a bit as he thanked his fans from home along with his family. 'This is our victory,' Pacquiao said. 'This is our story and the best is yet to come.' ___ AP boxing:

Teofimo Lopez Abandons Devin Haney Fight, Leaving Fans With Questions

Teofimo Lopez Abandons Devin Haney Fight, Leaving Fans With Questions originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Devin Haney was looking forward to clashing with Teofimo in August, but despite him signing his part of the deal, Lopez has had a sudden change of mind. Advertisement A few days ago, when Teofimo Lopez fell out with Turki Alalshikh, a Saudi Arabian-based boxing promoter, he took to his social media page to announce that he was fired and that he was looking for a new job. Hours later, he apologized to Turki and showed regret about his actions. 'To His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, I take full responsibility for my inappropriate words on the X app; I publicly apologize to HE; I will conduct myself with greater respect, humility, and professionalism. Sending love and light to all,' said Lopez on X. Hours ago, a bout for Lopez and Haney was confirmed and scheduled for August 16 in Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, Lopez has had a change of heart. 'Dear John, Haney's! This is to gently advise you that Teofimo Lopez has withdrawn from the fight, as we'd like to thank you for your efforts and professionalism throughout the process,' said Bill Haney on an X repost. Devin went further and clarified that he was the one who had signed his part; Lopez's was still pending. 'The fight with Teo is not signed! I signed my part, and Teo has been stalling. As of today, he has decided he doesn't want to fight me; he's officially the biggest duck with a thumbs down emoji,' said Devin on X. Lopez hasn't given an explanation why he doesn't want to fight Haney. 'I'm looking to work with a company in the retail industry to launch and expand my 'make boxing great again' brand and other ideas I am working on. Tag a retail company you'd like to see in collaboration and wear as your own,' said Lopez on X. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 8, 2025, where it first appeared.
