Jordan lifts poultry import ban on Brazil after avian flu threat contained
Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV, Tarawneh said that Jordan had introduced restrictions on Brazilian chicken imports in June after a case of avian influenza was detected.
He noted that Jordan annually imports an average of 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of frozen chicken from Brazil, with most of these quantities going to the local restaurant sector.
Tarawneh stressed that the ministry's technical teams are 'closely' monitoring the health situation in countries exporting animal products, reiterating that the ministry will not hesitate to take any necessary measures to protect public health and the agricultural sector.
In mid-June, the Ministry of Agriculture announced a suspension of imports of live poultry and non-heat-treated poultry products from Brazil, following reports of multiple cases of avian influenza there.
At the time, the ministry said that the suspension would remain in effect until the epidemiological situation in Brazil improved and reliable reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) confirmed that the outbreak was under control and that Brazilian veterinary authorities were complying with required preventive and monitoring procedures.
Brazil exported $10 billion worth of chicken meat last year, accounting for some 35 per cent of the global trade in the sector.

Rubio to meet Jordan's Foreign Minister as Gaza crisis worsens
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is expected to meet his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi in Washington on Wednesday, as the threat of mass starvation in Gaza continues to increase. Mr Safadi is in the midst of a tour of North America. Earlier this week, he met Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand. Mr Safadi's trip to Canada was part of a 'working visit' to the country by King Abdullah II. King Abdullah met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday in Ottawa, the first meeting between the leaders since Mr Carney was elected in March. They discussed a host of issues, including ways to 'enhance the partnership between Jordan and Canada, as well as the latest developments in the region', Jordan's State News Agency said. Canada pledged $28 million to help Jordan bolster its border security, the Canadian Prime Minister's office said. 'The Prime Minister and His Majesty also discussed the situation in the Middle East, including the imperative of a ceasefire in Gaza, called for urgent, life-saving humanitarian aid to reach civilians, and the imperative for stability in Syria,' the Prime Minister's office said. The situation in Gaza appears to be further worsening, with the threat of mass starvation increasing in the densely populated strip. 'A large proportion of the population of Gaza is starving. I don't know what you would call it other than mass starvation – and it's man-made,' said World Health Organisation Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday.

Kingdom Health signals launch of second phase with JOD 125mln development agreement
Amman, Jordan – Kingdom Health has announced the launch of its second phase of development, marking a significant milestone as the first phase of core construction concludes. The announcement was made during a ceremony held on Thursday, 10 July, at the St. Regis hotel in Amman, where a JOD 125 million agreement was signed between the Kingdom Health and MID Contracting Company. Under this agreement, the contracting company will undertake architectural finishing, interior fit-out, and the installation of electro-mechanical systems for the project's medical and academic facilities. These efforts pave the way for the trial phase, during which vital systems, equipment and operational infrastructure will begin to be integrated. The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Feras Hawari, Minister of Health; Dr. Azmi Mahafza, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Zaher Al-Qatarneh, Secretary General of the Ministry of Investment and Acting General Manager of the Jordan Investment Fund; and Mohammed bin Hassan Mounis, the Acting Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. They were joined by senior dignitaries, officials from relevant government entities, local and international partners, and representatives from both parties.
