Chappell Roan is back on the Billboard charts this week, but it's not just her usual pop cuts that keep her on the competitive tallies. While several of her older tracks remain, the singer is also entering a new era – one that could surprise fans who thought they knew exactly what to expect from her.
Roan returns with a brand new single, 'The Giver,' and while the tune is already a hit, it's the way she's achieved this new success that makes this moment a major turning point in her career.
This week, Roan's latest single "The Giver" opens at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The ranking blends streaming data, sales, and radio airplay in the U.S. to determine the most-consumed country tracks each frame.
Roan earns her first appearance on the tally, as she's never before released music in the country genre. That means she's now scored her first-ever placement, top 10, and chart-topper on the genre-specific list all in one go.
The fact that 'The Giver' opens in first place makes Roan part of a very exclusive club. Billboard reports that the singer-songwriter is now just the third woman in history to debut her first-ever entry on the Hot Country Songs chart at No. 1.
The first to do so was Bebe Rexha, whose smash collaboration "Meant to Be" with Florida Georgia Line conquered the tally in 2017. That tune ended up holding court in first place for nearly a year. It still stands as the longest-running No. 1 in the chart's history.
Last year, Beyoncé shocked the music world when she shifted into country with "Texas Hold 'Em." The song, the lead single from her then-upcoming project Cowboy Carter, also debuted at No. 1, giving her not only her first win on the tally, but also one of the few openings in first place for a female artist.
"The Giver" isn't just a country smash. The track also opens at No. 5 on the Hot 100 this frame, instantly becoming one of the most popular songs in the U.S. across all genres. The cut marks Roan's third trip to the top 10 on the all-encompassing ranking.
She reached a new career peak not long ago with "Good Luck, Babe!," which soared to No. 4. Before that, "Pink Pony Club" climbed to No. 7. That tune is still holding on, dipping slightly this week to No. 9.

Everybody is trying to survive — I'm trying to survive and live here and do all these things that I love — but I definitely have become more intentional, because I do think saying no to things opens up a door for a much better yes,' she said. Still, she isn't resting on her laurels just as she's making her big debut in the pop world. 'What does that even mean, really, to be the pop girl? Let's see if the songs get more popular, then they can call me a pop girl," she mused to Variety. 'This is my shot. I've got to go big.'
