Tight Security, Internet Suspended In Haryana's Nuh Ahead Of Brij Mandal Yatra
Authorities have imposed multiple restrictions and heightened security in Haryana's Nuh district to ensure the peaceful conduct of the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra scheduled for Monday, officials said.
District Magistrate Vishram Kumar Meena on Sunday issued an order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, banning the carrying of all weapons, including licensed arms, firearms, swords, sticks, tridents, rods, knives and chains. Only the sheathed kirpan, worn as a religious symbol by members of the Sikh community, has been exempted.
The use of DJs, loudspeakers or sound-amplifying devices with content that is religiously provocative or hurts the sentiments of any community will also be strictly prohibited during the yatra, the order read.
The district administration has also banned the sale of meat along the yatra route starting Sunday. Meat shops along the Kanwar route are to remain closed till July 24.
Internet services have been suspended in the area and drone surveillance has been activated, an official said.
The Haryana government on Sunday ordered suspension of mobile internet, bulk SMS services (excluding banking and mobile recharge), and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except voice calls, in Nuh district for 24 hours -- from 9 pm on July 13 to 9 pm on July 14.
According to the State Home Department's order, the move is aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and rumours through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and X, and to check any mobilisation of agitators or demonstrators who could indulge in arson, vandalism or other violent activities, causing loss of life and property.
According to police, cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi has been denied permission to attend the yatra and his social media accounts have been suspended.
The sale of petrol or diesel in open containers such as bottles will be prohibited at fuel stations in Nuh district from 6 am to 12 noon on Monday, they said.
Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar reviewed the security arrangements and directed officials from the civil and police administration to coordinate closely.
"No attention should be paid to any kind of rumours. Strict action should be taken against those spreading misinformation," AGP Kumar said, adding that a special team will monitor social media to curb any attempts to vitiate the atmosphere.
Around 2,500 police personnel will be deployed during the yatra on Monday, police said, adding that all government and private schools in the district will remain closed that day.
Officials said 14 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) will be on duty and 28 checkpoints have been set up at various locations along the route. Videography and strict checking will be carried out at these checkpoints to prevent the entry of miscreants.
Additional measures include deployment of mounted police, sniffer dogs, bomb disposal squads, four drones, 21 video cameras and commando units, they added.

Singapore eatery owner found dead day after accusing Indian woman of staging injury for compensation
In a tragic turn of events, a woman in Singapore died suddenly just a day after publicly accusing her Indian employee of faking a workplace injury to claim compensation. The incident has sparked widespread discussion in Singapore, with local authorities now treating her death as an 'unnatural' one and launching an investigation. Jane Lee, who owned a food outlet called Sumo Salad, had taken to Facebook just a day before her death to share detailed allegations against an Indian national, Sran Kiranjeet Kaur. Ms Lee accused Kaur of staging an injury towards the end of her employment contract, allegedly to claim compensation through Singapore's work injury system. According to reports by Channel News Asia (CNA), Ms Lee claimed that Kaur said she slipped and fell on an escalator while taking out rubbish, an incident Ms Lee believed was deliberately planned. In her post, she wrote, 'She was supposed to leave early that day. Instead, she stayed back and staged the incident.' Lee further alleged that the worker's husband, also from India, and a legal firm were involved in 'coaching' individuals on how to exploit workplace injury claims for monetary benefits. 'She would limp and exaggerate her condition in front of doctors, but I've seen her moving and working normally at other times,' Lee wrote, adding that she had video evidence to support her claims. She also alleged that small business owners, especially those without adequate insurance, were being 'targeted' by such fraudulent strategies. In her post, Lee urged Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the police to take action and prevent similar cases in the future. 'I fear I won't be the last,' she wrote. The Singapore Police Force has since confirmed they are treating Lee's death as unnatural, though the cause remains unknown at this stage. The Ministry of Manpower told CNA it is currently working with the company's insurer to assess the validity of the injury claim. 'MOM will not hesitate to act against anyone found abusing the Work Injury Compensation system,' the ministry said in a statement. 'Employers with concerns about fraudulent claims are encouraged to approach us.' Lee was reportedly in her 40s and left behind two children. Her Facebook posts and untimely death have stirred emotional reactions online, with many calling for a thorough investigation and greater scrutiny into work injury compensation processes, the media outlet reported.

8 drug addicts escape from Govt de-addiction centre in Punjab's Sangrur
Eight drug addicts allegedly escaped from a government-run de-addiction centre in Punjab's Sangrur district after reportedly attacking a policeman and a nurse with steel plates during dinner time on Tuesday evening, the police said. The police have formed multiple teams to trace and apprehend the escapees of the centre at Ghabdan village, said an officer. The policeman, identified as Malkeet Singh, was injured and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. 'I was attacked on the neck, and they tried to strangulate me, due to which I became unconscious. Many inmates tried to flee, but the staff managed to control some. A few still managed to escape,' he told reporters on Wednesday. Sartaj Singh Chahal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Sangrur, said, 'Follow-up is being done by the administration with the officials at the de-addiction centre. They were addicts, not criminals. Hence, it needs to be dealt with sensitivity.' SSP Chahal told The Indian Express, 'Several people come for rehabilitation. Some are a bit mischievous. That is what rehabilitation is for. It is essential to see the daily practical efforts at the ground level. The war against drugs is made up of daily battles, some obvious, some unobtrusive.' Most of the inmates were previously arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, but were sent to the rehabilitation centre as they were drug addicts, revealed sources. A similar incident was reported at the facility in January last year, where nine addicts escaped under almost identical circumstances — attacking the staff with steel plates during dinner.
