Govt to appoint 1840 doctors soon
Bhubaneswar: The govt will appoint 1,840 doctors and more than 5,000 paramedical staff in the state-run hospitals, particularly in tribal areas, very soon. This decision was taken at a meeting of the health and family welfare department chaired by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi here on Monday. He emphasised filling up of vacant posts of assistant professor, associate professor, and professor in medical colleges very soon. Advanced therapy helps city woman win eight-year-long fight against breast cancer
Ranchi: A 38-year-old Alpana Pathak has triumphed over stage 4 metastatic breast cancer after an eight-year-long battle. She was diagnosed with breast carcinoma in 2017. Over the years, she endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, breast surgery, radiation, targeted therapies, brain radiation (SBRT), and lung surgeries. Despite her relentless fight, the disease kept returning, spreading to her brain and other organs. By late 2024, her condition deteriorated. She was placed on ventilator support as she struggled with severe lung infection, urinary tract infection, blood infection among others. Under the supervision of Dr Satish Sharma, consultant–medical oncology at city-based Bhagwan Mahavir Manipal Hospital, she then underwent an advanced targeted therapy imported from Germany. This intervention proved transformative after years of extensive treatment. Blood next generation sequencing was then conducted, and based on the results, Sharma and his team made the decision to initiate an advanced international therapy. "The results were remarkable over the course of months. Despite availability of Rs 17 crore CSR funding, purchase of CT scan machine delayed by over a month at Mumbai civic hospital as only one company responds to tender
Mumbai: Despite availability of corporate social responsibility funding of over Rs 17 crore, the BMC-run Nair Hospital near Mumbai Central railway station has not been able to secure a CT scan machine for over a month now. The reason is that only one company has responded to the tender, which was floated on July 25 with the end time listed as July 29. Despite three corrigendum notices extending the time — first to Aug 5, then to Aug 11 and finally to Aug 18 — there has been no other applicant. Nair Hospital dean Dr S Mohite said that the final decision on the tender would be taken by BMC higher-ups. "Given the patient load, which is now being managed with only one CT scan machine that was procured in 2023, a decision on approving the tender could be taken soon,'' the official said.
