Police tighten security for Rafizi's family after syringe attack on son
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar, however, declined to provide further details on the security arrangements to avoid compromising operations.
'There are measures in place, but I cannot disclose them as it would reveal what the security team is doing… police will carry out the necessary protection,' he told a press conference on the incident here today.
Shazeli said six individuals had been called to give statements, including Rafizi, his wife and his son, as well as other related parties.
When asked, he said it was too early to determine whether the attack was politically motivated until a more complete investigation is available.
'Alhamdulillah, our initial investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage has given us some leads and assistance. We are reviewing not only the footage from the shopping mall premises but also from outside the location.
'The public is advised not to make any speculation or assumptions that could cause unrest or provoke uncontrolled reactions,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), Section 324 and Section 352 of the Penal Code.
In a statement yesterday, Rafizi confirmed the victim was his son and that during the incident, two male suspects on a motorcycle, dressed in black and wearing helmets had tailed his wife's car.

Malaysia hopes cross-border e-hailing with Singapore can be implemented, says Loke
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is open to introducing cross-border e-hailing services with Singapore, but the initiative must be pursued jointly by both countries, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke. "In principle, we hope that cross-border e-hailing can be implemented," he told the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to Tebrau member of parliament Jimmy Puah's question on cross-border traffic congestion and e-hailing drivers. Loke said that the government was ready to discuss the matter further with Singapore, but cautioned that it could not be a unilateral decision. "As a matter of principle and policy, we are ready to discuss with Singapore to enhance cross-border connectivity, but this cannot be carried out unilaterally. Both parties must agree before it can be implemented," he added. The minister explained that any proposal to allow cross-border e-hailing required in-depth discussions at the government-to-government level. "We hope to continue these discussions and hope that Singapore will respond positively so that this idea can become a reality," he said. On Aug 3, it was reported by a news portal that cross-border e-hailing services were one of the matters discussed between Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Singapore Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow on Aug 1. However, the island state's Land Transport Authority (LTA) clarified that no decision was made on the issue and that it has no plans to fully liberalise Singapore-Malaysia cross-border point-to-point transport via ride-hail services.

Widows of Elmina crash victims sue aircraft operator for negligence
In August 2023, a business jet with eight people on board crashed off the Guthrie Corridor Expressway in Bandar Elmina, Selangor, killing 10 including former Pelangai assemblyman Johari Harun and two road users. PETALING JAYA : The wife of former Pelangai assemblyman Johari Harun, who died along with two others in a plane crash near Elmina, Selangor, in August 2023, has filed a negligence suit against the operator of the light aircraft. In a statement of claim filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court last Friday, the plaintiffs named Jet Valet Sdn Bhd and its parent entity, Koperasi Amanah Pelaburan Bhd, as defendants. The plaintiffs are Johari's wife, Maziah Sudin, as well as Tengku Erina Ungku Abdul Malek and Nizatul Akmar Nasir, the spouses of the two other victims, Naim Muaidi and Khairil Azwan Jamaluddin. They are seeking special, general, aggravated and/or exemplary damages, in addition to costs related to their husbands' funerals and bereavement. The aircraft, a Beechcraft Premier 1, was flying from Langkawi to Subang airport. It had been cleared to land at 2.48pm, but crashed two minutes later. The plaintiffs claimed that the defendants breached their duty of care and statutory obligations, including by failing to take adequate steps to ensure that the passengers arrived safely at Subang airport. They alleged that the defendants failed to register the plane with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and did not obtain the required approval for non-scheduled air services or for carrying passengers, as mandated by law. The defendants are also accused of exploiting regulatory grey areas to avoid stringent oversight and necessary approvals. The plaintiffs further alleged that the defendants allowed the pilot to occupy the right seat of the plane, contrary to flight manual requirements, and permitted an unqualified second-in-command to occupy the left seat and perform critical pre-landing checklist duties. The plaintiffs claimed the defendants breached contract by failing to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness and passenger safety, and violated Article 5(1) of the Federal Constitution guaranteeing the right to life. The widows additionally claimed losses related to funeral arrangements for their spouses, including RM5,000 in burial expenses and RM30,000 in bereavement costs for each of the three deceased, as well as loss of dependency to be determined by the court. The statement of claim was filed by Messrs. Tanes, Khoo & Paulraj. In August last year, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau in its final report on the crash found that the primary cause of the plane crash was the inadvertent extension of the lift dump spoilers. It said the action caused a sudden loss of lift, resulting in catastrophic loss of control and the subsequent crash, adding that it believed the co-pilot had committed the fatal error.

eHati probe widened after discovery of event in Bali, says exco
Police have recorded statements from 90 people in their probe into the controversial eHati marriage motivation programme. SHAH ALAM : The investigation into the controversial eHati marriage motivation programme held last year has expanded to other countries following a discovery that the organisers also held an event in Bali, Indonesia. Selangor executive councillor Fahmi Ngah said the police, in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic religious department (Jais), found during their probe that the event was also held in neighbouring countries, Berita Harian reported. 'I have been informed that the investigation is not limited to Selangor, but also extends to neighbouring countries such as Bali, Indonesia,' said Fahmi, who is chairman of the state's Islamic affairs and cultural innovation committee. 'There have been complaints that certain activities held were somewhat 'extreme' and went against our values. These took place in the country and abroad. The police are looking into these,' he said. Fahmi also said the authorities are collecting more information to determine the next course of action, including enforcement by the state government. Previously, it was reported that police had recorded statements from 90 people in its probe into the programme. Last month, police arrested Diyana Tahir and Rahim Shukor, the founders of eHati International Sdn Bhd, and raided their home after they had given their statements at the police headquarters. The event, held from Sept 27 to Sept 30 last year in Shah Alam, was aimed at a Malay audience. It had involved about 50 female participants. According to a Facebook user, the event's final day saw a female speaker in a bikini strip naked and dancing with members of her group. Police have confirmed that the eHati event in Shah Alam featured an activity involving nudity, particularly during the 'Queens Night' segment on the final day of the programme. On July 16, Hussein Omar Khan, who was then Selangor police chief, explained that two packages were offered as part of the programme – Package A, priced at about RM6,000, and Package B, at about RM9,000, which included the Queens Night.
