Gardaí stop driver carrying 'full load' of silage while using phone
In a post on social media, Gardaí said that the man has "landed deep in it" after he was spotted using his phone while driving.
According to the Gardaí a fixed notice charge has been issued to the driver of the tractor.
It is an offence to hold a mobile phone in your hand, or to support it with another part of your body (for example, between your head and shoulder), while driving.
The only exception is if you are calling emergency services on 999 or 112.
You can legally talk on your phone using a hands-free system, but the Road Safety Authority advises very strongly against this.
Separately, last week Gardaí in Co. Leitrim confirmed that they recovered a number of items stolen from a farmyard.
It is understood that the theft took place on a farmyard in the Ballinamore area of the county, not far from the border with Co. Cavan in the early hours of July 15.
The stolen items included a 2016 white Renault Master van, a motorbike, a quad trailer holding a ride-on powerfloat (for use on fresh concrete).
During the incident a concrete drill, a chainsaw, a manual powerfloat, a cement mixer and a power washer were also taken.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána told Agriland: "Gardaí in Co. Leitrim continue to investigate the theft of number of items from the yard of a property at Ballinamore between 12:10a.m and 6:20a.m on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
"Following a search, some of the property was recovered.
"Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"This includes anyone who was in the area at the time and has camera (including dash-cam) footage.
"They can contact Ballinamore Garda Station on 071 964 4002 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111," the statement added.
