Como defender prints CV on shirt to highlight post-career difficulties for female players
The former Italy defender Alia Guagni had her CV printed on the front of her kit for the final match of her career on Sunday before retiring from football, in an attempt to raise awareness of the uncertainty female players often face when seeking a job after their playing days are done.
The two-time winner of the Serie A women's footballer of the year award, and a Serie A champion with Fiorentina in 2017, says 'speaking up is the only right thing to do' to try to help other players, as she aims to shine a spotlight on the challenges female players face.
The 37-year-old, who won more than 100 caps for Italy, has spent the final campaign of her career with the top-flight Italian women's club Como. She is hanging up her boots and becoming a mother, and her unusual CV-jersey idea coincided with Mother's Day in Italy, 11 May.
'I've never been someone who seeks the spotlight,' she says. 'But there are times when speaking up is the only right thing to do – especially when it might help those who come next.
'I was fortunate to have a plan, but balancing preparation for the future with the demands of professional sport is never simple. A career on the pitch has a natural end. Ensuring there's a beginning after that end should be part of the journey. Why not help the champions of tomorrow start building their futures today?'
The match on Sunday ended in a 3-1 victory against Napoli, with Guagni playing the first 52 minutes. Como Women, who say they hope the CV-jersey encourages conversations and opens doors for change for women's players, have vowed to only accept sponsors who commit to hiring their players once they have finished their sporting careers.

Leroy Sane sends message to Bayern Munich over Arsenal transfer
Leroy Sane has indicated he is 'very interested' in a move to Arsenal amid his contract dispute with Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany. The 29-year-old winger will become a free agent in a matter of weeks after failing to reach an agreement with Bayern over a contract extension. Sane joined the Bundesliga giants from Manchester City in 2020 in a deal worth up to £55m. Making at least 40 appearances every season since arriving at the club, Sane has been a hugely influential member of the Bayern squad, playing a major role in four league title wins. Bayern Munich bosses are keen to keep hold of Sane and have already offered him a new three-year contract on reduced terms. But Sane rejected the offer as he is unwilling to take a pay-cut and has since been linked with a number of Premier League clubs. German outlet BILD say Sane is yet to make a final decision on his future despite the fact he is set to become a free agent on July 1. It is also claimed Sane is 'very interested' in joining Arsenal, with a move to London 'appealing' to him and his wife Candice. Sane has attracted interest from Arsenal's Premier League rivals Tottenham and Newcastle United but moves to those clubs does not appear to be a genuine possibility at this stage. Other options include a move to Saudi Arabia or Serie A champions Napoli but those are less attractive to Sane, according to BILD. 'I would love Leroy Sane to sign for Spurs; he's a world class player who has won everything. 'Why would you not want him at your football club? He might've picked up a few injuries in his career, but you can't tell me he wouldn't be a great signing for Spurs – even if he demands £250,000 a week!' Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O'Hara speaking to Grosvenor Sport Despite the intense transfer speculation, Sane is not expected to make a decision before the Club World Cup starts this weekend. Bayern are even considering offering Sane a short-term contract to ensure he features in the tournament, even if he could leave shortly after Bayern Munich return from the United States. Sane is also aware of interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, who are both ready to make lucrative offers to secure his signature. But a move to Arsenal would give Sane a reunion with Mikel Arteta, who he worked with at Manchester City while the current Gunners boss was assistant to Pep Guardiola. Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2025-26 campaign but Didi Hamann believes it would be a mistake to sign Sane. 'If you look at Arsenal, I think you need very good players to improve the team,' Hamann told Best Betting Sites. 'And obviously Saka plays on the right. More Trending 'Leroy Sane mainly plays on the right and he's a hugely talented player. He's been at Bayern for five years now. He just hasn't done it on a consistent basis. 'Now, why would he do it now for the next three years when he's 29? He's a hugely talented player, but we shouldn't talk about a player who's 29 about his talent – we should talk about the impact they have and the medals they've won. 'At that age, you're looking for guarantees from your performance level, and Sane just hasn't given me any assurance that he can deliver consistently. 'I don't think Arsenal should be looking at him and certainly not moving for him.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Chelsea make final decision on Mike Maignan transfer before Club World Cup
Chelsea have failed to reach an agreement with AC Milan to sign Mike Maignan before the Club World Cup, according to reports. The Premier League club were keen on signing Maignan as an upgrade to their current goalkeeping options. The experienced Frenchman has won the Serie A title with Milan and has just one year left on his deal with the Italian giants. Both clubs have been locked in talks over the past week to try and agree a deal which would allow the 29-year-old to move to Stamford Bridge and play for Enzo Maresca's side in the upcoming Club World Cup. However, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano now reports that a deal will not be agreed before Tuesday's 7pm deadline, with both clubs unable to agree on a valuation for the keeper. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. Milan are said to be demanding at least £20m for Maignan, who is keen on a move to Chelsea this summer. However, the Blues are reportedly unwilling to pay more than £12-15m, with Maresca happy with his current options between the sticks. Despite an inconsistent season at times, Robert Sanchez still retains the faith of his head coach, with Filip Jorgensen, Djojrde Petrovic and Mike Penders all set to provide competition during pre-season. One goalkeeper on his way out of Chelsea is Kepa Arrizabalaga, the most expensive shot-stopper in the world now set to join London rivals Arsenal. Chelsea could still pursue a deal for Maignan when the window reopens later in the summer, but may opt to wait until next summer when the Frenchman is expected to leave Milan on a free. Elsewhere, Chelsea remain in talks to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens after their opening bid was rejected by the Bundesliga side. More Trending Personal terms are said to have already been agreed with the winger, but Dortmund want a fee of €50-60m (£42-50m) to part ways with the Englishman. A deal for Gittens is also not expected to be completed before Tuesday's Club World Cup deadline, but the Blues remain keen to complete the deal later in the window. Chelsea have already made three signings this summer following deals for Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Claudio Ranieri, 73, SNUBS Italy for shock new job with club that just replaced him as manager
CLAUDIO Ranieri plunged Italian FA chiefs into crisis when he rejected the chance to take over the national side. Former Chelsea and Leicester boss Ranieri, 73, had been lined up to replace Luciano Spalletti, sacked following the Azzurri's humiliating 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat by Norway. 2 Ex-Napoli chief Spalletti stepped down after overseeing the underwhelming win over Moldova, which kept Italy on track for a potential play-off place. But in a shock U-turn after days of discussions, self-proclaimed 'Tinkerman' Ranieri revealed he was turning down the job. Ranieri left the Roma dug-out last month after the Stadio Olimpico side missed out on a Champions League place on the final weekend of the Serie A season. It was understood he had been sacked. Yet Ranieri has opted to STAY with Roma, in a consultancy role for owners the Friedkin family, rather than take charge of the Italy side, informing FA President Gabriele Gravina of his unexpected decision. Ranieri explained: 'I thank President Gravina for the opportunity, a great honour. 'But I reflected and decided to remain at the disposal of Rome in my new role in a total way. 'The Friedkins have given me their full support and backing for any decision I made regarding the national team, but the decision is mine alone.' JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS Ranieri, who was replaced at the club by former Atalanta chief Gian Piero Gasperini, added that it was HIS decision to end his managerial career. He said: 'I decided to give up, the Friedkins had left me free to choose. Scott McTominay dances with old fan while puffing on cigarette as never-ending Napoli title party continues 'But I had promised to stop. If I had wanted to continue we would not have taken Gasperini. 'Now I only want to think about Rome.' Gravina is now starting the search for Spalletti's replacement all over again. Spalletti's predecessor, Roberto Mancini, who quit in August 2023 but lasted just 14 months as Saudi Arabia boss, might be an option despite being recently appointed as technical director at former club Sampdoria.
