Suspect accused of assassinating gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons in court wait

Michael Riley's extradition hearing has been rearranged.
The extradition hearing for the man accused of gunning down Scots gangsters Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons in a Spanish bar has been delayed.

Michael Riley has been charged over the double assassination, which took place at Monaghan's Irish Bar in the city of Fuengirola after the Champions League Final.

The Spanish authorities are trying to extradite him to Spain so he can go on trial over the killings, which took place in the Costa del Sol city on May 31 this year.

But today it emerged that the hearing, which was due to take place in October, was being rescheduled for November, meaning the 44-year-old, of Liverpool, will spend an extra month behind bars.
Riley, of Huyton, Liverpool, is remanded in custody at Wandsworth Prison and was due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on October 9 for his extradition hearing.

But today the court heard that the hearing is now expected to take place at the same court on November 20, five weeks later than originally planned.

Another hearing is due to take place in August. Monaghan, 43, and Lyons, 46, were key members of the Lyons crime gang, which has been at war with the rival Daniel mob for a quarter of a century.
The feud started in the early 2000s when the Lyons gang were blamed after cocaine belonging to the Daniels was swiped from a safe house during a party.
What followed was decade of tit-for-tat shootings, ambushes and knife attacks. Spanish police said Riley was a member of the Daniel gang, but Police Scotland have denied a link between the murders and their lengthy feud.

Trump protesters urged to stay within the law during Scotland visit

Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond said the operation to police the five-day visit will involve 'significant' resources, requiring Police Scotland to draw on mutual aid agreements with other forces. A senior police officer has urged those who wish to protest during Donald Trump 's trip to Scotland to stay within the law, as she said the priority will be for the US president to have a 'peaceful and safe' visit. Known as Operation Roll, the exact numbers of police involved have not been revealed but it is expected to require Police Scotland's entire cadre of police liaison officers. The White House confirmed Mr Trump will visit his golf courses in Aberdeenshire and Ayrshire between July 25 and 29. He will meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney during his private trip. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Ms Bond encouraged protest groups to discuss their plans with police ahead of the visit. She said: 'As you can imagine, it is a large-scale, complex operation, but actually that's something that Police Scotland is immensely experienced at doing.' The policing plan involves local, national and specialist officer from Police Scotland as well as other forces. She added: 'The key very much is to make sure the President of the United States can come, enjoy a peaceful and safe visit to Scotland and ensure Police Scotland is able to maintain delivery of services to the rest of the community within Scotland over the period of his visit.' Read More: Police are working on the assumption there will be protests in [[Ayr]]shire, [[Aberdeen]], Glasgow and Edinburgh, she said. Ms Bond said Police Scotland will take a 'proportionate' approach to ensure people can protest safely, with the force offering to engage with demonstrators ahead of time on a 'no surprises' basis. However she said there is nothing at this stage to give her 'specific concern' about violence. Speaking to the PA news agency, she also said that concerns raised by the Scottish Police Federation are 'being resolved'. The organisation, which represents rank and file officers, said workforce agreements around health and safety may be breached. Asked for her message to those considering disruptive protest, she said 'Police Scotland fully recognises people's right to peaceful protest… 'We would wish to make sure we can balance those rights against against the impact on communities, on public safety. 'I would appeal to people obviously to stay within the bounds of peaceful protest. 'I'd be really clear however that abusive, threatening behaviour, any activity that's intended to disrupt events or in any way that poses a risk to public safety is not legitimate protest and will potentially require an intervention by policing.'

Family of teen stabbed in park to discuss knife crime with First Minister

The family of a teenager killed in a stabbing at a park in Glasgow is to discuss knife crime with the First Minister. Kory McCrimmon, 16, was stabbed in the heart after a confrontation in Greenfield Park in the city's East End on May 31. The pair had earlier exchanged threats on social media in a dispute over £50. A 14-year-old was sentenced to five years' detention in May after admitting culpable homicide. In the wake of the deaths of teenagers Amen Teklay and Kayden Moy in separate incidents in recent months, the McCrimmon family organised the Parents Against Knives march. Around 200 people participated in the event, which started outside Ibrox Stadium and ended at Celtic Park. At the time, his father, Neil McCrimmon, said: 'This is our children we're talking about, and this is where Mr Swinney needs to make changes.' Police Scotland The family will now meet the First Minister and cabinet secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, Angela Constance, on Wednesday to discuss knife crime, especially among young people, and what preventative measures can be taken. Kate Wallace, chief executive of Victim Support Scotland, said: 'The McCrimmon family is calling for a thoughtful and coordinated response to address the issue of knife crime and prevent it from happening in the first place. Joint action is needed across the board – from Scottish Government, police, social workers, youth services, victim support organisations – with agencies working together to confront the root causes of knife crime. 'We look forward to hearing the First Minister and Cabinet Secretary's responses to the family's questions and urge them to carefully listen to their concerns and suggestions that may help prevent more lives being senselessly lost.'
