Artem Lobov makes startling claim about Conor McGregor vs Khabib fight

Extra.iea day ago
Conor McGregor's former training partner and teammate, Artem Lobov, has made a shocking claim about his 2018 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Lobov claimed that McGregor barely trained and didn't take the bout as seriously as he should have, while also suggesting that if the Irishman fixed up his act, then Khabib may even be convinced to return for a rematch.

Some fans tried to reason that McGregor wasn't equipped to deal with an MMA match due to his previous fight being in the boxing ring against Floyd Mayweather.
However, Lobov, who has since fallen out with McGregor, has made the startling claim that the 37-year-old only trained twice a week in the lead up to the fight.
He said: 'I know that fight bothers Conor because he didn't train at all for that fight.
'Twice a week he was training for Khabib. I tried to get him to Las Vegas and said 'We have to do this', and he told me to f*** off, he just didn't want to do it. View this post on Instagram

'He was in the wrong mindset, the party mindset. Training twice a week and that's it.
'So when I saw the fight, I was like 'Oh my god, if only you trained four times a week, you probably would've beaten him'.
'But imagine him in a full camp and the Conor that fought Eddie Alvarez. Imagine that Conor fighting Khabib. That's what I want to see.' Lobov has since fallen out with McGregor. Pic: Brandon Magnus/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images
Khabib retired in 2020 after beating Justin Gaethje and retaining his title, preserving his undefeated legacy.
McGregor's last fight came in 2021 when he lost to Dustin Poirier after breaking his leg in the first round.
Lobov believes that if he could make a comeback next year and score a big statement KO win, it could well tempt Khabib back.
He continued: 'I would love to see him come back, because I feel that if he was at 100%, we would be able to bring Khabib back as well. McGregor hasn't fought since 2021. Pic: Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images
'He would just need one fight, knock the guy out, and then the whole world will be talking to Khabib and getting him to come back.'
McGregor, who recently lost his appeal against a High Court jury that he raped Nikita Hand, seems to be currently preoccupied with his presidential ambitions.
He launched a petition this week, calling it 'Let the people decide. A petition to Ensure that Conor McGregor is on the Ballot.'
The petition aims to change the nomination process ahead of the Irish presidential election, due to the fact that he needs to receive a nomination from at least 20 members of the Oireachtas, either TDs or Senators, or from four local authorities.

Ex-Ireland star and criminal Anthony Stokes signs for Conor McGregor's pub team

Former Ireland striker and convicted criminal Anthony Stokes is set to return to football, signing for Conor McGregor's pub team, Black Forge FC. Stokes previously played for both the Republic of Ireland and Celtic and last played professionally in 2020 with Livingston. However, the 37-year-old Dubliner has made headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent years, with numerous run-ins with the law. Now a free man after having his recent jail sentence for drug dealing and drunk and dangerous driving overturned on appeal, Stokes looks set to team up with Conor McGregor and his football team. McGregor recently lined out for his pub team, Black Forge FC, for the 2025 season, where he played in the AUL Challenge Cup final. He has now recruited Stokes to add some firepower up front. Stokes shared the news of the transfer on Instagram, saying, 'Better get the dust knocked off the boots.' Stokes, who played nine times for Ireland during his career, has had a dramatic downfall in recent years. Back in 2013, he was handed a two-year suspended sentence for headbutting another man in a Dublin Nightclub. He subsequently pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. Stokes was then ordered to pay victim Anthony Bradley €230,000 in damages after a High Court hearing. The ex-Sunderland star admitted to carrying out a stalking campaign on ex-partner Eilidh Scott. The former striker bombarded Scott with a string of abusive messages that saw him send 100 texts a day on WhatsApp and email. He labelled her a 'slut', a 'slag' and a 'whore' and turned up at her home in Shotts, Lanarkshire, late at night. Jealous Stokes also demanded to know her whereabouts and pestered her mother, May Scott. Stokes was banned from contacting his ex-girlfriend for four years, as well as her mother. Stokes was sentenced to five months behind bars last year after he breached court orders. Stokes continued to repeatedly message Ms. Scott and her parents despite a strict court ban. Stokes was accused of assault causing harm to Fraser Spratt in Dublin back in 2019, but the case was struck out due to the absence of a key witness. Most recently, Stokes was handed a 15-month sentence behind bars in October of last year after Gardai seized €3,700 worth of cocaine and was involved in a high-speed car chase while also over the legal alcohol limit. On appeal, he was handed a suspended sentence and a community service order, but is serving a five-year driving ban.

Over 15,000 tickets already sold for Crocker and Donovan's all-Irish world-title fight

OVER 15,000 TICKETS have already been sold for next month's all-Irish world-title fight between Lewis Crocker and Paddy Donovan at Windsor Park, Matchroom Boxing have confirmed. Belfast's Crocker (21-0, 11KOs) and Limerick's Donovan (14-1, 11KOs) will rematch at the home of Northern Irish football for the IBF welterweight world title on Saturday, 13 September. Tickets went on sale last week but Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn confirmed on Thursday morning that over 15,000 of them have already been snapped up with more than five weeks remaining, with pitchside tickets 'completely sold out'. A small number of cheaper tickets (around €52) are still available on Ticketmaster, while undercard boxers can also be contacted directly via social media for tickets. Advertisement 'Let's sell this place out for the first ever all-Irish world title fight,' Hearn said. In over a century and a half of professional boxing under the Queensberry rules, no two Irish-born fighters have ever fought each other for a world-title belt in any weight class. September's encounter will see either Crocker or Donovan join Katie Taylor as one of only two reigning Irish world champions, although Belfast's world-class super-featherweight Anthony Cacace is effectively in that same company having vacated his IBF title to avoid a mandatory challenge and instead take more lucrative fights with British rivals, which he has won. Crocker and Donovan's original bout at Belfast's SSE Arena was, in its own right, one the most significant to take place between two Irish boxers in the modern era. In what was a final eliminator for Boots Ennis' IBF title (Ennis has since vacated the belt and moved up in weight), Donovan and trainer Andy Lee were left furious when the previously unbeaten Limerick man was disqualified for knocking down Belfast's Crocker after the bell had sounded to end the eighth round. To that point, Donovan had dominated a compelling contest against his rival from the north, earning a legitimate knockdown of Crocker and leading the Belfast man 69-63 x2 and 67-65 on the three judges' scorecards before being disqualified for his illegal blow. Remaining tickets for Crocker-Donovan II are available here.
