Man detained after second seizure of cannabis at Dublin Airport within two days
About 23kg of herbal cannabis was discovered concealed in vacuum packed packages within the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked from a flight originating in Thailand, a Revenue statement said.
The man is being detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Dublin Garda station.
The seizure was made after a separate seizure at the airport on Sunday of 52kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €1,040,000.

A mother and son were subsequently arrested by An Garda Síochána in relation to the Sunday seizure and
both appeared before Dublin District Court on Monday.
They are Hellasha Tingman (48) and her son Shawndell Gaston (30), of the Bronx, New York, USA.
Both were charged with unlawful possession and importation of cannabis and having it for sale or supply.
Investigations into both seizures are ongoing.

Gardaí arrested two men in connection with the seizure of over €100,000 worth of cannabis and cocaine and €63,000 in cash. As part of an operation targeting an organised crime group involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs and money-laundering activities in Dublin, the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) searched two residential properties in DMR (Dublin Metropolitan Region) North and DMR West and a vehicle in DMR West. These searches resulted in the seizure of €63,000 in cash. A man aged in his 40s was arrested and is being detained at a Garda station in Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Teen charged in connection with killing of Irish Rail employee in Co Tipperary
A teenager questioned in connection with the killing of Iarnród Éireann employee Ian Walsh in Co Tipperary has been charged. Gardaí say the young adult male is due to appear before a special sitting of Clonmel District Court this afternoon. The teenager was arrested by officers in Carrick-on-Suir early on Wednesday. He was taken to Clonmel Garda station for questioning. He was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows gardaí to hold suspects for up to 24 hours before they must be charged or released. READ MORE Mr Walsh (49), a single man who lived alone, was found dead at his home in Carrick-on-Suir at about 3.30am on August 4th. Gardaí were carrying out a welfare check at his two-storey property. They had been contacted by Ms Walsh's family who were concerned for his welfare.

Garda suspended following death of man in Dublin city centre
A garda under investigation following the death of a man in Dublin city centre last week has been suspended from duty. The 51-year-old man suffered severe head injuries after hitting his head off the ground in the early hours of last Friday morning outside the Holiday Inn on O'Connell Street . He died in hospital on Tuesday. The circumstances of the man's death are being investigated by Fiosrú , the police ombudsman, as the deceased had interacted with gardaí immediately before the fall. READ MORE The incident was referred to Fiosrú by An Garda Síochána . On Wednesday evening, one of the gardaí who was at the scene was informed that he was to be suspended while the investigation takes place. The exact nature of the interaction between the garda and the deceased remains unclear. Neither the Fiosrú referral or the garda's suspension means the member is being accused of any offence. Fiosrú is obliged by law to investigate all instances involving gardaí which result in death or serious injury. It will be up to the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine if there is a criminal case. It is understood the garda has denied any wrongdoing. The garda was in a patrol car with a sergeant on O'Connell Street just after 4am when they spotted the man in what they believed to be an intoxicated state. The gardaí told investigators they approached the man after they saw him at the traffic island in the street. During this interaction, the man fell to the ground. It is not known if the garda had physical contact with the man, who comes from a north Dublin family. The man was taken to hospital and an on-call investigator from Fiosrú attended the scene. The incident was not captured on the Garda car's dashcam but investigators were able to obtain CCTV footage from other cameras on the street, sources said. A postmoterm is due to take place, the results of which will likely help determine the course of the investigation, sources said. Garda headquarters said the matter had been referred to Fiosrú 'following an interaction between a member of the public and an on duty Garda member on Friday, August 15th, 2025. Fiosrú, formerly known as the An Garda Síochána Ombudsman (Gsoc), said it wants to hear from anyone who was near the Holiday Inn on O'Connell Street at about 4.15am on Friday. This includes passing vehicles and taxis that may have dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area. 'Anyone with information which may be of assistance to this independent investigation is asked to contact Fiosrú at 0818 600 800 or info@fiosrú.ie,' it said.
