Inbetweeners star warns men in film industry have a 'new method' of targeting women eight years on from #MeToo

Daily Maila day ago

Actress Jessica Knappett has warned that predators in the TV and film industry are now employing new methods to target women - nearly a decade on from the #MeToo movement.
The British actress and comedian, known for her breakout role in The Inbetweeners Movie, and later TV star roles in shows Drifters and Avoidance, opened up about her concerns for women in a new podcast.
Appearing as a guest on Gabby Logan 's podcast The Mid Point, the 40-year-old said that rather than sidelining women in TV and film, where many have reported sexual harassment and assault at the hands of male authority figures during the #MeToo, predators may now be turning down new avenues to target women.
Jessica, originally from Bingley in Yorkshire, said women in podcasting could be most at risk.
'I really worry about podcasting now – because a man can say: 'come and record my podcast with me,' and you can turn up and it can just be you and him,' said the actress.
Recalling a recent occasion arriving at someone's house to record a podcast, Jessica said she became suddenly aware of the potential risks of the situation.
'That's happened to me, not in a violent way, but... I was recording someone's podcast the other day, he was recording it in his flat, just me and him, and I thought - if you're a predator, this isn't a safe space for women – it's the wild west.'
It comes nearly 10 years on from when the Me Too movement first went mainstream in 2017 after singer and actress, Alyssa Milano, blew the whistle on harassment and sexual assault in Hollywood.

Years on from the watershed moment, figures in the TV and film industry have been forced to take collective action to improve the situation - including implementing formal measures to hold perpetrators accountable.
Speaking on the podcast, Jessica claimed the TV and film industry still isn't safe for women.
She said: 'I still in all honesty don't think it's safe - in the TV and film industry - the boundaries are so blurred between what's work and not.
'If a producer's asking you to come and meet them for a drink because he likes your script then you're gonna go probably, now I know that that's not normal, and the good men that I work with work within working hours.'
'A lot of the good ones (men) feel uncomfortable about it, there has been a shift and they don't wanna make you uncomfortable and they're scared, they don't wanna be accused of anything.'
Jessica made her mark on The Inbetweeners franchise in 2011, when she appeared in the first film playing Lisa, the love interest of the series's lovable fool, Neil Sutherland, played by Blake Harrison.
Married to Emmy nominated documentary writer Dane Crane, Jessica is also a mother-of-two and lives in Ilkley in Yorkshire.
She's not the first to have called out those in the industry for failing to take action following the moment the issue was first raised in Hollywood.
Earlier this year, Cate Blanchett echoed sentiments voiced by Jessica, saying that the industry still had vast amounts of work to do to address the ongoing epidemic of sexual harassment.
Cate insisted that despite years of widespread conversations sparked by the Me Too movement, there has not been enough progress.
'Everyone talks about the #MeToo movement as if it's well and truly over, and I think well, it didn't really ever take root, to be honest,' she told NET-A-PORTER'S digital title PORTER.
'People were seeking to dismantle and discredit those voices that were only just beginning to come out from under the floorboards into the light. I find it quite distressing the way that it hasn't taken root.'
In a 2018 interview with Variety the actress was asked if she had every been sexually harassed by Weinstein and she said 'Yes'.
'I think he really primarily preyed, like most predators, on the vulnerable. I mean I got a bad feeling from him. … He would often say to me, 'We're not friends,'' the actress said.
When asked what he meant by that, she said only: 'Well, I wouldn't do what he was asking me to do.'
Cate and Weinstein have a long working history, going as far back as 2000's Oscar-nominated film, The Talented Mr Ripley.
Last week, former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of sexual assault.
After a retrial on rape and sexual assault charges before a New York Supreme Criminal Court jury in Manhattan, which lasted over a month, he was convicted on 4 June.
The disgraced Hollywood producer was found guilty of sexually assaulting his former assistant but not guilty of forcing oral sex on a teenage model.
Weinstein has long denied he did anything illegal and disputes the sexual harassment claims of dozens of women included in the report.
Aged 73, he is currently imprisoned in a special unit of a New York City hospital battling leukemia, where he faced an additional 10 years behind bars.

Pregnant Sophie Habboo shows off her blossoming baby bump in a hilarious slogan crop top as she shares series of stylish snaps

Pregnant Sophie Habboo proudly showcased her blossoming baby bump in a series of Instagram snaps shared on Friday. The former Made in Chelsea star, 30, flaunted her growing bump in a white crop top with the slogan 'Too Old For [Leonardo] DiCaprio ' printed on it as she posed for a mirror selfie. She also shared a stunning shot of herself in a white dress as she strolled through the streets of London while holding a iced coffee and her phone. Sophie also posted behind-the-scenes glimpses from the recording studio and a visit to the hairdresser as she documented the early days of her pregnancy. She wrapped up her photo dump with a fun picture of her husband, Jamie Laing, enjoying an ice cream, along with some delicious food she recently indulged in. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Sophie revealed earlier this week on her and Jamie's newly named podcast NearlyParents, that she has struggled with some aspects of her pregnancy. She confessed that when her second trimester hit, she felt like she was 'dying' and was dealing with a lot of hormones that made her frequently feel irritated. 'This girl has gone from a bit of a b***h to don't come near me,' she quipped. 'Up until week eight, I was smooth sailing. No good aversions, no sickness, so much energy, I was like what is every talking about this is unbelievable. 'Week eight hit and everyone's starting to grate to me a bit. Like that man sat next to me on the plane breathing, like is it illegal if I punch him in the face? 'If you're a fan of the podcast, I love you so much but you're not going to like me if you meet me at the moment.' Jamie said he struggled to get his head around Sophie's mood changes with pregnancy, recalling: 'I asked Sophie if she had any cravings and she said, ''No, the only craving I have is hating you''. 'I then spent an evening on Reddit looking at "Why does your wife hate her husband so much when they're pregnant". He went on: 'Sophie is teaching me to drive and I'm a little bit nervous in the car and she goes "You're a s**t driver". I'm literally in my head going "Oh my god she's hasn't eaten this is really scary". 'Sophie then gets so angry she says to me "I'm so angry I want to drive us both into the back of this car and kill us". And then she started crying!' Sophie confessed that the 'anger is uncontrollable' but that it 'was very fleeting' as she lamented how her 'enormous t*ts' also meant she couldn't fit in any of her clothes. Jamie candidly told listeners how he owed her a real apology after not taking her hormones seriously and threatening to leave her over her 'grumpiness'. Sophie said: 'Jamie was like "Oh you're just milking it, you fake all your hormones, there's no such thing". He went "Oh you're just faking all of this." I was like "Oh my god" as I'm lying there with my enormous t*ts out and I can't fit into a single thing.' Recalling the incident in question, she went on: 'We are leaving and I feel really sick this day and Jamie gets his camera out and goes "I'm going to vlog today". Like on my Sunday that I'm about to vomit all day long. 'And what happened was Jamie sits down and he goes "I'm going to call my friends and ask them what I should do about this. Because I'm going to have to leave you. I'm going to leave you because you're just so unbearable right now."' Jokingly pretending to break down in tears, she shared: 'And I went "You're going to leave me and I'm pregnant".' It comes after the couple took to their podcast to tell their fans all about their impeding parenthood for the first time, where Sophie revealed some of the struggles she'd been dealing with in her pregnancy In defence of his actions, Jamie quickly added: 'The amount of people who are going to call me an a*****e. Just a caveat to add - I had no idea the emotional journey that you go on, how your body changes. 'I just didn't understand the extreme things that go on and since having read stuff on Instagram, I am awe of what you go through. The hormone change is wild.' Showing their Chelsea roots, the couple also revealed that Sophie's worst craving so far was for caviar, recounting how they had dashed round London trying to find a shop that was open at 8pm. Jamie explained they eventually found a caviar store only to discover a single pot cost £240, as he declared: 'I was like "Well that craving has to stop there and then". Sophie revealed that after some Googling, she learned it is recommended that pregnant people avoid the expensive delicacy due to the risks of bacteria and mercury. However, she confessed that the risks were the only thing that stopped her eating it, otherwise would not have allowed the hefty price tag to put her off.

Moment Tube driver is caught KNITTING and watching videos on his phone while driving commuters

An easy-going tube driver was caught knitting and watching videos on his phone as he drove commuters around one of the busiest transport networks in the world. Striking footage shows the London Underground operative hard at work on a lion-themed garment as he pulls slowly out of Hendon Central Station in February 2025. The man's phone is also positioned comfortably in front of him so he can watch videos at his leisure. A witness who filmed the spectacle - which took place on a Northern Line train - commented disapprovingly, 'look at him... watching TV, pressing a couple of buttons'. He went on to reference the money the driver earns each year and claimed he can go on strike 'whenever he wants'. The witness later recalled: 'I was so surprised. 'I didn't expect to see someone meant to be at work being so casual about the job. 'Especially because at the time, there were tube strikes going on so it felt mad they were complaining about the job then relaxing on it. The man's phone is also positioned comfortably in front of him so he can watch videos at his leisure 'And, although I don't know how automatic the system is for the tubes, I remember thinking that this person has the passengers' lives in their hands. 'It felt crazy that this driver wouldn't take that more seriously.' Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed the driver in the video was sacked from his job. A spokesman said: 'This video was made earlier in the year. 'We carried out a full investigation and the person involved no longer works at TfL.' Many social media users have taken to TikTok to share their thoughts on the video. One person said: 'He's risking his career for a bit of TV.' Another added: 'The driver shouldn't be doing that, they should be focussing - that's dangerous.' But a number of people offered their support to the tube worker amid the criticism. Someone said: 'What do you want him to be doing? Steering?'
