Oklahoma's Ethan Downs has fantastic showing at NFL Scouting Combine

Yahoo28-02-2025

Three Oklahoma Sooners are undergoing testing at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in hopes of being called for the 2025 NFL Draft. Danny Stutsman, Ethan Downs, and Billy Bowman are at work this week trying to impress NFL coaches and front offices with their athletic ability.
Among the trio of Sooners, Downs has helped himself a ton after going through the interview process and performing on the field. He put on a show in the athletic testing portion, running a 4.69 40-yard dash at 270 pounds. His 32 reps on the bench press were the most among defensive ends and edge players this season.
Projected as a strong side defensive end at the NFL level, Downs showed out in a big way. He put together a combine that puts him among the top 15 at his position during the combine. Downs also performed well in the 10-yard split, a drill that is particularly useful for defensive linemen.

Downs almost assured he'll get drafted at the end of April with his performance at the combine and his position coach, Miguel Chavis, loved the effort from his defensive end. He really helped himself with this performance. Just like he was a stalwart for Brent Venables' defense, defensive coordinators at the NFL level are going to love Ethan Downs.

Eagles' Saquon Barkley Reveals Religious Journey

Eagles' Saquon Barkley Reveals Religious Journey originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Added to his almost supernatural physical talents and the savvy free-agent signing with the Philadelphia Eagles last offseason, Saquon Barkley is crediting another secret weapon for his epic 2024 season: Advertisement Religion. In a new interview with golf social media influencer Grant Horvat, Barkley opened up about his newfound faith and credited it with helping him have one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history. "I just became a Christian not too long ago," Barkley said. "I don't think it's a coincidence that the best year I had in my career, I found my faith. It gives me some clarity in life." Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards last season and helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl in a 40-22 romp over the Kansas City Chiefs in February. How a higher power works remains one of life's great mysteries. But it works for Barkley. Advertisement Barkley's religious journey is not an overnight success. At Super Bowl LIX he talked about diving into the Bible. "I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I know the Bible, like, in and out," Barkley said. "It's something I'm learning, I'm challenging myself to get better at with my family and my friends. I'm just growing, and I think that's the beautiful thing about it, and I think that's what religion and faith is, is having a relationship with God and understanding who Jesus is, and that's what I've been trying to do this year. I'm going to continue to try to get better at it." Last month, the 28-year-old landed on the cover for this year's edition of the uber-popular 'Madden' video game. Barkley was also a featured speaker at 'Life Surge: Champions of Faith,' a religious financial seminar at Philadelphia's 21,000-seat Wells Fargo Center. Concacaf Gold Cup bracket, schedule: USMNT vs. Costa Rica in quarterfinals

The U.S. men's national soccer team has won all three of its Concacaf Gold Cup matches so far, but the knockout stage will present an entirely different challenge for Mauricio Pochettino's squad. Will ghosts of recent tournaments past haunt the USMNT? The U.S. crashed out of the 2024 Copa América in the group stage, then lost in the Concacaf Nations League semifinals to Panama. On Sunday, June 29, the USMNT faces Costa Rica in a Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinal, looking to build some momentum heading into next year's World Cup. The USMNT has reached eight of the last 10 Gold Cup finals. That is a realistic goal again this summer, even for a U.S. team missing many of its key players for various reasons, most notably Christian Pulisic. Those absences have created an opportunity for others to step up. Attacking midfielder Malik Tillman now seems like a lock to make the USMNT World Cup team next year. Forward Patrick Agyemang is a matchup conundrum for opposing defenders. Defender Alex Freeman, son of former NFL wide receiver Antonio Freeman, might have played his way into the conversation, too. When is the USMNT vs. Costa Rica Gold Cup quarterfinal? Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 29. Where will the USMNT vs. Costa Rica Gold Cup quarterfinal be played? The USMNT vs, Costa Rica Concacaf Gold Cup quarterfinal will be played at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. U.S. Bank Stadium is the regular home of the NFL's Minnesota Vikings and hosted Super Bowl LII. How to watch USMNT vs. Costa Rica The television broadcast will be available on FOX. The Spanish-language television broadcast will be available on Univision and TUDN. The match will stream on FOX Sports Live and Fubo. Concacaf Gold Cup bracket Saturday, June 28 Sunday, June 29 Wednesday, July 2 Sunday, July 6 Which players are on the USMNT Gold Cup roster? Browns Cornerback Unhappy With Role in 2024

Browns Cornerback Unhappy With Role in 2024 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns' season didn't go as planned last year as the team suffered injuries to key players while entire position groups seemed to underperform. Advertisement A 3-14 mark and last-place finish in the AFC North opened the way for a successful draft, and hopefully, a turnaround season in 2025. But one Browns player wasn't happy with the way he was used last season, and it raises some eyebrows on the defensive side of the ball. 'It's been an interesting kind of relationship with Greg and sort of his role,' explained Orange and Brown Talk host Dan Labbe on a recent podcast. 'Last year was the first year ... he's been their slot guy for a few years, but last year it was really kind of the first year where, when they did have two corners on the field, he wasn't one of them.' Newsome would like a larger role in the defense in 2025, or play somewhere else, as Mary Kay Cabot of reported. Advertisement 'When I talked to Greg Newsome at the Super Bowl on Radio Row back in January or early February, he talked about the fact that he wants to be used more. He was primarily the nickel back last year. He wants to be on the field more often,' Cabot reported on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast. 'More tellingly, Newsome actually point blank said, 'You know, I need to know some things before I want to sign a long-term contract here.'" Newsome started 11 games in 2021, 15 games in 2022, 13 games in 2023, but just three in 2024.
