68 acres costing Rs 500 crore identified for tallest skydeck in South Asia
BENGALURU: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, on Tuesday inspected the site in Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout for the proposed 250-metre skydeck.
According to informed sources, the ambitious project of the Karnataka government will come up on 68 acres in 7th block of the layout situated between Mysuru Road and Magadi Road in Kommaghatta. Considered to be the tallest skydeck in South Asia, the project is estimated to cost Rs 500 crore.
'Today, I visited the BDA site in Kemepgowda Layout where the skydeck will come up. The tallest skydeck in South Asia, an ambitious project of Brand Bengaluru, will be our city's pride,' Shivakumar said.
An official said that the DyCM will decide on which civic agency will execute the project. Shivakumar was accompanied by former minister and MLA ST Somashekhar, BDA Commissioner Manivannan, and senior officials.

Another top Maoist with 45L bounty killed in encounter
Raipur: In yet another big blow to the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), another senior Maoist rank cadre — Bhaskar, who carried Rs 45 lakh bounty — was neutralized on Friday in an encounter that broke out in the same area where Maoists central committee member Sudhakar alias Tentu Lakshmi Narasimha Chalam was gunned down on Thursday in the forests of Bijapur. The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday being carried out by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras took place the whole day and after the guns fell silent, security forces recovered the body of 45-year-old Maoist Bhaskar, who carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana. Bhaskar was a Special Zonal Committee member of Telangana State Committee and was reportedly operating in the dense forests of Indravati National Park — a known Maoist stronghold. Three days ago, TOI had reported that security forces in Bastar have precise information on the locations of nine top Maoist commanders in Bastar division, and an operation to eliminate them is imminent unless they surrender. "Bhaskar, a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana, was the Secretary of the Mancherial-Komarambheem (MKB) division of the CPI (Maoist) outfit," the IG further said. In the same operation on June 5, security forces had recovered the body of Central Committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar along with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation in the area is still ongoing to trace other Maoist cadres in the nearby area. Relief for parents as notebooks cost less after raw paper prices fall
Pune: Parents across Pune are breathing easier this school season after a noticeable drop in the prices of notebooks and school stationery. The academic year will begin in 10 days for most govt and private schools and the markets are bustling. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The price reduction is largely due to a steep fall—around 40 to 50%—in the cost of raw paper imported from abroad. This led to a 15 to 20% drop in the prices of notebooks, registers, and other paper-based school materials. Retailers confirmed that notebooks which cost ₹400–₹450 per dozen last year are now available for ₹300. A4-size notebooks, earlier priced at ₹600 per dozen, are now being sold at ₹450–₹480. Drawing books, which were ₹42, are now ₹32 per book. However, prices for felt pens and whiteners remained unchanged. "Prices have come down by at least 10-15%," Rajiv Chandak of Trimurti Traders said. "Medium-quality A4 notebooks that sold for ₹540 are now ₹450. We've revised our cash memos to reflect the new rates." Sachin Gaikwad of ABC Stationers added, "Last year, A4 notebooks were priced between ₹700 and ₹800 depending on the brand. This year, they are available for as low as ₹300. It's a 5–8% dip across various formats." Nikhil Shah of Bombay Book Manufacturing Company said, "Paper rates have stabilised. Last year, during the peak season, prices shot up. This year, the same A4 notebook from a top brand like Classmate, which cost Rs 75, is available for Rs 65." Kothrud resident Suhas Kulkarni said, "We have two school-going children, so every rupee matters. Compared to the last year, our stationery bill is down by nearly 20%. Kondhwa resident Vaishali Kedari said, "Usually, we spend a lot on notebooks and registers. But this year, the prices are really reasonable. With school reopening just a week away, shopkeepers expect more crowds during this weekend and over the next week. For now, the price correction is happy news.
